Fixing the game

Post by SkierP20 » Wed May 21, 2014 2:30 pm

So I got thinking.. what are some features that are out there in other games or in your heads that you think might help this game improve? Here are a few of mine...

1. Star ratings - It works in OOTP, it works in FM... FHM HAD it but for some reason they went away from it.

2. Player roles - What a great way to keep goons from fighting front line centers? Allow me to set player roles in my lineup screen such as "enforcer" or "scoring winger" or "grinding winger" or "checking center" and so on and so forth. I am sure we could come up with plenty. The players focus on THAT role primarily.

3. Fix the god awful GUI - Seriously... its been terrible since day one, and it continues to be terrible. How about adding things like an OOTP transaction screen.. or even some skin options....

4. Tactics run by sliders - Enough of the drop downs. Let's move back towards sliders. Again, I feel like the slider system works pretty well for OOTP.

And one more........

5. Completely scrap ingame play for now - Make this into a GM game until you have perfected that much like Hockey League Simulator was in the 90's. You can set your lineups, you can set your preferred tactics, and hire a head coach to handle things like line changes. It is a hockey management game. Fix that, perfect that before moving on to something else.

I myself couldn't care less about the stars and sliders and anything else related to OOTP (and I want the game to work properly first before I worry about such things, including UI)...and for me "completely scrap ingame play for now" would turn FHM into a game I no longer cared about

IMO the most helpful thing the OOTP supporters could do for FHM is stop bringing up OOTP! Baseball's a simple game to simulate with a tiny universe (which OOTP is only recently just beginning to simulate), and OOTP has had well over a decade of development! IMO they're not comparable at all

I agree, this kind of thread are IMHO a waste of time...

Just completed my first season. Boy, does this game still need a bunch of improvements.

Things I have noticed off the top of my head:

Handling of Playoffs in general needs to be vastly improved. Cannot find a way to get to a Playoffs page unless you are simulating to the next game. I tried to check on my minor league affiliate, to see how the Playoffs were going, and could not find a way to get any information? If there is a way to get to the playoff info, I could not find it.

Why in Player Profile, when you click on Season Stats, there is nothing there for Playoffs (are playoffs just an after thought in the game)? I see the drop down in the Career Stats to toggle between Regular Season and Playoffs, but nothing is Season Stats.

Overall GUI issues (as they have been mentioned by countless others).

I also mentioned an issue in another message: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 13&t=12910

The game looks like it has plenty of potential. I was a long time EHM player (loved the editors too), and am hoping this will eventually be as good as or better than EHM. I guess time will tell.

* Star ratings are a definite - I remember reading a post by one of the developers who said it wasn't practical because a 4th liner gets a different rating to a 1st liner. This is true, but with EHM I always knew to "scale" the ratings. If your 4th line goon is a 6.50-7.00 rating, he's having a good season essentially. But if you're top line centre is, he's a horrible player.

* Tactics that work. Saveable.

* Trading draft picks - offer a 1st for a 2nd & 3rd, that sort of thing. Offer a player for a draft pick.

* Similar line as well - Offer To All. Loved this in EHM, enables a quick response (or non-response) to an unwanted player rather than putting a player on the Trade List and then waiting. I do like the trade list, but add this in too.

* More fighting, don't let the goons die dammit. (Sorry it'll never happen but it's a personal preference)

* Head Coach employable and an employable Asst GM.
