Suggestions for special rules to play with BKarchitect's 32 team (version 2.8) NHL database as Seattle:
* Start with Blank Roster
* Enable no firing
* Can control AHL team
* Assistant GM and Head Coach must be from Western Canada or Western USA
* Use Gameplay Rules for NHL Challenges (viewtopic.php?p=98699) with a few exceptions:
= Season 1 May sign any 20 UFA's between July 1st and October 1st, 2017 (Be careful because some won't join until May/June 2018) (5.2)
= Season 1 May claim any 10 players from waivers between August 1st and December 31st, 2017 (5.2)
= Trades allowed commencing in S1 (5.2)
= You may make four trades per season (Two straight up 1-for-1 deals are allowed. And Two player for pick or pick for player deals are allowed) (6.11)

Another element we could add:
= Season 1 and Season 2 May sign up to two additional UFA players per season if they approach team. I.e.: "An agent known to........ has offered the services of........ to the Totems".

I think rebuilding a team would be a cool challenge. The Nucks and Bruins challenges were the most popular and fun ones :thup:

I had started a test save using BKachitects Seattle Totems but the save I had in mind was abit too hard

I was thinking maybe a quick euro save just to get us through to roster update time? I was thinking something like Switzerland or Germany :-?

The TBL rosters are still weeks away so now would probably be a good time to start an NHL32 - Seattle challenge.
Maybe there is a way to have the members vote on who gets picked in an expansion draft.
IIRC, we did something similar some years ago

I was thinking about the next one being a St Louis challenge and using other rosters until tbl rosters come out

Blues - don't know, with limited options for trading and free agents signing and without 1st and 4th round picks in 2019 it would be quite impossible to move this team forward, but whatever... I would like to start new save, so any challenge you come up with is more than welcome. =D>

Sabres might be interesting (3 first round picks in 2019 and lot of young talent), rebuild in Ottawa (with internal salary cap) or Detroit, maybe Dallas.

Alright so since we haven't had a challenge to replace Vegas that ended in August and I volunteered in the other thread, here is my suggestion for Archibalduk to approve, and if so I can upload the save file tomorrow/write up/some fun graphics and get this thing started.

Reading through this thread it seems people want/enjoy a rebuild project that can't win the cup season 1 and a team that hasn't been used in forever. But have flexibility to build their team.

- Using Pivot rosters (most recently updated) that gives us the LA Kings who finish toward the bottom of each sim I did
- Start in June after Cup finals of 2019
- Kings start w/theirs and Leafs 1st round picks
- Twist! You must trade Doughty & Kopitar BEFORE draft day. The vets are sick of this last place BS and want OUT.
* Trade can be one of two options. 1) a straight up one player for 2019 1st round pick or 2) one player for any other picks you can get in 2019 (i.e. a 2nd and a 3rd) this helps create different play throughts and potentially setting you up with 4 first round picks (3 likely 20+ so not OP) to rebuild
- This also creates great variety for each GM as we all won't be drafting the same players
- It essentially ensures a bad season 1 (19-20) w/o winning the cup (dont really like challenges where you can win cup in season 1)
- Normal rules apply except for the twist
- Meaning season 1 will be a true test of line management/tactics

Rebuild. Team that hasn't been used since 207. Variety among GMs. Getting to do some trading right away.

If this goes well we can look at changing other rules, etc before next challenge but didn't want to touch that right now. Just one big twist to change it up and get challenges active again

So the Kings challenge ends tomorrow, so was leaning a few ways for next challenge. There aren't that many truly bad teams, so:

1) Ottawa Senators: Haven't featured in challenge before and are by far the worse team in the current rosters. Weak across the board and did not even get to use their top pick this year. No star players at all, as Chris Tierney led the team with 50 points when I did a full season sim

2) New Jersey Devils: Instead of trying to pick a rubbish team, I thought over the summer and before more moves/updated rosters come out I thought it would be good idea to pick a "up beat winning" team and see who can do the best with them. THe Devils are much improved and have good players across the board but aren't an outright dominate team as they came in the last wild card slot in my latest full season sim. The expectation will be to win the cup season 1, so is more about who gets more wins/points/goals etc

3) Dallas Stars: Not used since 2011, star power in top players but terrible depth and lacking in goal. Similiar to below Oilers where your top line is set but rest is hot garbage.

4) Edmonton Oilers: Finished 27th place in full season sim and Only used in 1970 db for challenge back in challenge 16. Yes you get the elite Center and a few other pieces but goal has big issues and empty depth across the board. Lucic contract is also still in this version of the rosters so the only addition to challenge rules I would do is you have to keep him and play him (instead of burying in AHL)

The Oilers Challenge interest me :thup:

P.S. There is no 1970 database; I'm guessing you got the 1970 from the start/finish dates on the TBL Challenge history page (the first 16 Challenges all say "01 Jan 1970" for their start/finish dates) https://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/a ... name=index

I think outside of the 1974 database (Challenges 25/29) and the 1998 database (Challenges 42/43/45) all Challenges have used a TBL database

Yeah, right now would be an awesome time to bring a challenge with lot of people living under quarantine. I just started back playing EHM after a long break, a challenge would definitely help me kill some time. :**

Ottawa will be brutal. Would we revise for trades/waivers to get under the contract limit and over the cap floor?

The team is over the cap floor when the save starts.
We'll remove oe of the career injured players to get under the roster limit

Perfect! I'm excited, from the poll results it looks like we'll get Ottawa. First year is going to be tough.

I honestly think Minnesota would be tougher because they have such pants contracts. Ottawa is bad, but with great prospects, so might not take long to be good.
