I'm still playing...sorta...I'm wanting to at least finish out the current season I'm in, but I was playing so well in my other games, that's all I've been doing. That and my lack of success have really discouraged me from the challenge. I'll try to get back into it this week.

You guys must have awesome jobs to be able to play at work!! There's no way I'd be able to pull that off - In fact, I'm surprised that this site isn't blocked at my job...Most "discussion forums" are.

Well I'm at the end of October in season 4. I made my trade. I spent all of season 3 trying to trade for a goalie. It just wasn't going to happen. I was looking to trade out either Enstrom, Slater, or Peverley. Slater just doesn't excite me. He's not quite good enough for the second line and I've got plenty of depth at LW and C. Peverley was "The Man" for us us in the second season. He surprised me and did really well. Then in season 3 he was injured off and on and never really seemed to find his game. He went back to the way he was in season 1. In 11 games so far this season he's had just 2 points. He's been terrible! And then we had Entroms who has the skills to put up big points but doesn't always produce and seems to cost us points when he's on the ice. Enstrom only played 5 games for us and had no points. I went with Valabik and Zubarev instead and both we better than Enstrom (Zubarev not by much).

So after trying to get somebody interested in dealing me a goalie and once again having NO luck, I turned my eyes towards landing a RW. I have Cisse down in the AHL and he looks like he'll be good but he's not ready yet. I've got Bergfors who can do well sometimes but he mostly just benefits from having good linemates. Dawes is naturally a LW and I've been having him play on the RW. Last season he did really well for us, putting up 68 points in 55 games. He wasn't doing quite as well to start this season but he wasn't bad. I was also trying to get either Peverley or Little to work on the RW but wasn't having much luck. Peverley worked well there in the past but stunk this season. I really preferred Little at C. So I was determined to find a RW. I wanted a RW that would park himself in front of the net and get the rebounds. I want him to fight it out and do the dirty work. I set filters for 15 strength and 14 in Deflections, Getting Open, and Wristshot. I also set the filters for at least 10 in Determination, Teamwork, and Workrate. I inquired about lots of guys. Most wanted multiple pieces... a player and picks/prospects. Sorry, I can't do that. So I was working on deals for 3 different guys... David Clarkson, Zack Kassian, and Steve Downie. I was working on deals for either Clarkson or Kassian but they kept trying to get a little more out of me and it wasn't happening. Downie was traded to the Leafs over the summer and they had an interest in Enstrom. I tried getting them to take one of the forwards (Peverley or Slater) but they wanted more included if they took one of them. They accepted a deal straight up for Enstrom. Finally! A trade! Last season I never made a trade, UFA signing, or waiver claim because I was holding out for what I needed most. At least I did something this season.

So I have Downie and even though I hate him in real life, he looks like he'll be good for us here. He's physical and aggressive. He can shoot. He'll be a good fit as my 1st line RW. On a line with Antropov and Ladd, he adds even more toughness and allows me to use Board Play breakouts. Let's just hope his personality flaws don't translate to EHM.

I'm thinking this is the last year I'll get out of Mason. He's already been a little shaky. Pavelec is getting most of the starts and doing better than he has in the past but I still don't trust him as a starter. I've got Pettersson-Wentzel getting most of the starts down in the AHL. In season 5 I'll either have to trade for a goalie or sign one as a UFA (for less than $2M), otherwise he'll be my backup and Pavelec will be my starter. I've got my young Czech goalie and possible Hasek regen that I drafted this summer but I don't think he'll be ready for the NHL for a couple seasons.

We won the Cup in season 2 but fell short in season 3. I'm not holding my breath to win it this season. The Capitals still look insanely strong.

Season 6 and another playoff tank. After leading the league for most of the season I was bounced out in the first round. Didn't help that Mike Richards was injured in the first shift of the first game and never got back in time. Wish I could blow up this team

So, I just finished my first season...
Finished 12th in the east
It was very inconsistent. Some games were awesome and some were aweful.
Antropov was by far the best player. He played mostly widd Ladd and Bergfors. Defense was shoddy and the goalies were OK.
Now I am looking forward to the draft and then I have to trade Peverley.

The Sabres won the cup, I drafted Landeskog and traded Peverley for Douglas Murray. Oh, and Colton Orr won the Selke!
I couldn't get any of the FAs I wanted so I am hoping someone good gets waived

I know there's only a few days left, but I finally have some time to get some games in, so I thought i'd jump on board and see how much I can get done.
After 20 games Chicago is doing well, but we've been hovering between 8-11. Hope to have some more to report soon, but should be an interesting challenge without Kovalchuk and with the restricted trading.

Orr won the Selke? Something just isn't right about that!

And cstorring, go right ahead and jump in. If you're a fast player you might get a season or two in. I'm still trying to get through season 4. Maybe we'll extend the challenge just a little bit. I really don't want to start another challenge until Manimal is ready to release another update to his rosters.

After a bit of a delay I have finally finished season 3.We ended the season in 5th with 97 pts. Mason had a solid season in goal getting 62 games, 2.91 GAA and .91 save %. I thought he'd drop off a bit this season and Leclaire would get 30-40 starts but that just wasnt happening. The other big surprise came from Ben Eager. 23g, 23a, +18, 242pims and a 7.99 rating. With the injuries he even got a look on the 2nd line for a while and was great.
We got New jersey in the first rnd of the playoffs and beat them 4 straight but lost Mason in the last game. The next series was Washington again and we dropped the first 2 games 0-2, and 1-4. Leclaire wasnt bad but the team wasnt playing well in front of him. For game 3 I took a risk and put Mason back in even though he was still injured (90%). We won 2-1 and then carried on to take the series 4-2. Mason had 3 straight games with a 10 rating and the last with 9 all still at 90%.
The Eastern final saw us in against Pittsburgh. we dropped the first 2 games again, won the next two to tie it up then it got weird. We lost game 5, 5-0 won game 6, 3-0 and won game 7 in OT to go on to the Stanley Cup Finals against Vancouver.
We never got our offense on track against them and went out in 5 games outscored 15-7.
I'll make my way through the upcoming draft but this might be the last season .

We're closing in on the deadline for this challenge. I don't another challenge ready to go yet. Is there anyone else still playing this challenge and if so, would you like to see it extended?

Ah, I figured it was ending so went ahead and traded 2 for 1. Was 25% into new season, Little went down for 4 months and knew I didn't have enough time to finish in time so I grabbed a very unhappy Kovie for Anderson (G) and Eager. So count me out, I voided myself.

Okay, I've extended the Challenge to run to April 15th. That should give everyone some extra time to wrap up their seasons or play another if they're a fast player.

Maybe I should've quit while i was ahead. Season 4 is turning out like season 1. I picked up Trent Hunter as a FA. Im not sure why. I havent made a trade yet but would love to ship out a whole bunch of them.
At the halfway mark of the season and we are 12th in the East 5 pts out of a playoff spot.

I'm in the Eastern Conference Finals in season 4. I'm facing the Capitals. They've been our main rival throughout the challenge. This season, we had 1st place in the conference until the last day of the season. On that last day of the season, the Caps won their game, tying us in points. They got 1st place due to having more wins than us (we had more OTL points). So we went into the playoffs as the 4th seed instead of the 1st. Let's hope we can beat them!

And the Caps continue to be the bane of my existence. They swept us in the Eastern Conference Finals. Our goaltending just never really did it for us in the playoffs this season. We couldn't even stick with one for more than a few games before he started bombing. Goaltending can win championships and Mason is probably ready to retire. I don't think Pavelec is ever going to be a starter for us. I don't think I'll have the chance to play a 5th season of this challenge but if I did, my focus would definitely be goaltending!

Now I've just got to sim through the rest of the playoffs, do the draft, and then get my screenshots.

So Craig Ramsay came in 3rd for Adams voting. Bogosian was 2nd in Norris voting. And Valabik was a 1st All-Star Team selection. Not much for awards this season. We were good but balanced (not including goalies who were serviceable in the regular season and poor in the playoffs).

I had a decent draft. I'll post my results for that tomorrow and then wrap up my season so I can post screens and stats.

Okay, so my draft for season 4 (2010 Draft)...

Rd1 23rd Zack Morin RW 6'0" 178 lbs USA
Morin is a power forward with first line potential. My scouts compare him to a more talented version of Ryan Callahan. His key 'green' attributes are 18 Strength, 18 Teamwork, 17 Work Rate, 20 Deflections. He's also got 'yellow' attributes the offensive technical attributes and most of the other physical attributes. He has no 'red' attributes. That 20 in Deflections really caught my eye. This kid should be able to score a lot in front of the net. He's committed to playing for Denver of the NCAA next year.

Rd2 53rd Konstantin Lemtyugov C/RW/RD 6'0" 163lbs RUS
He's a Two-Way Forward with first line potential. My scouts say he's a more talented version of Jordan Staal but smaller and slower. I was interested in the fact that he's a pure center who is accomplished at RW and also competent at RD. That could be useful on the PP someday. He's only got one green attribute, a 17 in Stickhandling. He's poor in Faceoffs (a 5) but the rest of his technical attributes are pretty good. Most are 'yellow' but some are 'orange'. His physical and mental attributes are pretty good. He might be a bit of a reach but I liked the things the scouts had to say about him.

Rd3 83rd Vladimir Novotny RW 6'3" 240lbs CZE
My scouts say he's a skilled offensive forward with first line potential. They compare him to a slower but more talented version of Marian Hossa. His size really stood out for me. He's a big boy! His only 'green' attribute is a 20 in Flair. His other attributes are all 'orange' or 'yellow' except for 2 'red' ones, Influence (6) and Faceoffs (1).

Rd4 113th Tyson Isackson C/RW 6'0" 205lbs USA
He's a two-way forward with third line potential. My scouts compare him to a slower but more talented version of Lars Eller. No 'green' attributes and one red, Aggression (4). Everything else is 'orange' or 'yellow'. Reading the scouting report he just seemed like a well balanced player, perfect for my third line someday.

Rd5 143rd Adam Farkas C/RW 5'10" 158lbs SVK
He's a power forward with first line potential. My scouts compare him to Sidney Crosby and Scott Gomez. I'm a bit skeptical of that! Even though he's on the small side and needs to fill out, he's got great physical attributes. He's got 'green' in Acceleration (20), Speed (20), and Strength (17). All of his other attributes are 'orange' or yellow' He's even got some borderline 'green' (16)in Agility, Stamina, Flair, and Faceoffs. I can't imagine him turning out like Crosby or Gomez but I had to take the chance.

Rd6 173rd Joel Taibossigai RD 6'1" 183lbs CAN
He's a skilled defenseman with 3-4 potential. My scouts compare him to Mattias Ohlund. His only 'green' is Teamwork. His only 'red' is Anticipation. All of his physical attributes are 'yellow', as are the defensive technical attributes. He seemed like a very safe pick in the 6th round.

Rd7 203rd Milt Albertini LW/RW 5'11" 163lbs CAN
He's a power forward with second line potential. My scouts compare him to a more talented version of Ruslan Fedotenko. He's got 4 'green' attributes, Acceleration (19), Bravery (19), Team Work (17), and Deflections (18). He does have one 'red' attribute, Aggression (6). He looks like a good 3rd liner to me and definitely a safe pick in the 7th round!

Okay, now to log my stats and then sim to July 1st for my last screenshot.

Just finished season 4.Thanks for the extension.
after a nightmare of a first half I went for a major tactical overhaul . The team responded and we went on a tear up until the olympic break. We cooled off a bit after but still made it into the playoffs in 7th place. There we ran into a red hot Ryan Millar and the eventual Cup winning Sabres and went out in the first rnd 4-1.Just as a note Millar had a 1.81 GAA,932 sv% and 4 shutouts in their playoff run. Nice.

Down in Chicago we won our 2nd Calder Cup with Pavelec cleaning up in awards (3) and G Landeskog winning rookie of the year.

Ive posted my stats but there seems to be a problem with Photobucket. I am unable to post my screen shots at the moment and will be away for the rest of the weekend. Is it Ok if I post them Monday ??

Sure, repost the screenshots later. More important is that you got your stats posted on time.

So after I wrapped season 4, I resigned from the Thrashers on July 1st (see the How's It Going In EHM 2007 thread in the General EHM Chat forum). Less than a year later (7 months really), I decided to check in on them and see what they've done with my team.

First, they ditched Mikko Koivu to the Blues for a 2nd round pick and the rights to a guy that was taken in the 5th round of the last draft. UGH!

Next they sent Eager to the Sabres for a 3rd and a 6th! Why? He was my 3rd/4th line master!

Then they sent Pettersson and the rights to Peverley to Pittsburgh for a 2nd round pick and a 21 year old defenseman that projects as a 5-6 guy. I guess this one isn't terrible.

After that they traded a 3rd round pick for Brian Pothier. I think he's too old but whatever.

And this final move really burned me. They traded Miroslav Herman, my 1st round pick from 2009, who projects to be a shutdown specialist. They sent him to Pittsburgh for Kukkonen. Nooooo!!!!!!!
