Nobody can do that. They are a lost cause.
I am starting to think you are right, I will probably get fired before I can implement any real changes to the team.
There's an option to disable human sackings.

Started my very first game yesterday! I'm using the Blackhawks as i know the players and prospects pretty decently. Only thing that sucks is Crawford is destroying in the W-L ratio but man his stats are rubbish.

2014-15 officially marks the beginning of a v2 rebuild that Toronto and it's fanbase so desperately needed. Upon exiting a training camp and pre-season full of abysmal effort and result, the season began just as it ended last year. Losses to Montreal, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, the Rangers and the Avs, finally a win was found against the Rivals in Detroit. Talks of trades loomed over the dressing room. Most notably Tyler Bozak was garnering interest from Winnipeg, New York Rangers, and Anaheim. Nothing could be finalized and Toronto went on it's losing ways. By the end of october, the leafs had won a stiffling 3 games, all against good teams (Back to back vs. Detroit, and Boston). After a loss vs. the Rangers on Nov. 8th, a bulletin out of Minnesota stating that goaltender Devan Dubnyk was available for trade. Acting quickly, the leafs GM inquired to Chuck Fletcher what it would take to pry him out of Minnesota. 2 days later a deal was finalized, GM Strongman's first trade, Dubnyk was a Leaf, and Troy Brodie, a 4th and a 2016 5th rounder went to the Wild. Initially the request was just a 4th and 5th, but Brodie was thrown in for the sake of keeping open reserve list spots. Unfortunately, Dubnyk fell out of the plane on the way... no he got hurt in his first practice, out about a month, great luck right?
Just 3 days later, a second trade was finalized. After 8 points in 16 games, Lupul was making his way to San Jose in return for a 2nd and 4th round picks both for 2015. Lupul ended up being great for San Jose, scoring 51 points in 59 games, which is shocking because thats usually how many games in a year he doesnt play. By the end of November, the leafs are by far the Leagues worst team. 6 points seperate them and the Hurricanes for dead last. It's already looking like it's time for the fire sale. Then suddenly, the trade that determines the entire season is offered to Toronto. Winnipeg with an an astounding offer just a day after Dubnyk was cleared to play... The Jets want Bozak and Dubnyk, for the rights to Ehlers and Burmistrov. After a bit of negotiating, the same trade was made, but Winnipeg threw in their first rounder this year. Considering they were fighting for a playoff spot at this point in december, it was a decent pick, but not the greatest. So far it's looking like Im Picking at the beginning, middle and end of the first round (Nashvilles pick).

With Bozak out, Kadri steps into a first line role. His season started out terrible. He was disciplined for very poor performance, avging a rating of 5.25 in his first 5 games, and being upset with the warning, he was in turn benched for the next few games. He began to play a better all around game when Lupul was traded, and he, Panik and Komarov made up a decent 2nd line. Now however, was his time to shine. With the second line center slot open, the Leafs declared what would essentially be an extended training camp for next season. Giving Many Marlies a chance to play that second line spot. mcKegg was most notable, going 4 points in 8 games, but the slide after left too much to be desired. The leafs continued the slide, and went on a 10 game losing streak, that started before the bozak trade.
Come January, the Board, and the fans were all calling for the firing of the GM. players even "lost faith in the GM's ability." Time was requested to rebuild, as well as an official firing of the coach (bye Horacek, you were in fact terrible). Tortorella was brought in on the interm, a 1 year contract. By the end of january though, something happened.
After the all-star break, Kessel lit up. Having only 20 goals by the end of January, he lit the lamp 20 more times breaking 40 for the first time, he even got hurt for the last 2 weeks. Kadri went on a 15 game point streak, and JVR ended with 76 points. All this, in what was a reversal of fortune, and a very backwards season for Toronto. Usualy known for starting strong and having a year end bond fire by the end of February, the leafs climbed back and came (albeit a large number really) 6 points back of a playoff berth. They became the hottest team in february and march, all the mean while taking themselves (And me) right out of the Mac or Jack sweepstakes. Hold the phone... or were they?

Remember that Bozak trade? Here is where it decided the season. Bozak started very strong on a strong team. The Jets made a strong play for a playoff spot, and Bozak even had a strong, 16point in 10 game point streak. However, just as quickly as Toronto went up, Winnipeg went down. Dubnyk was terrible. Posting a well below .900% and a 3.31 GAA, Dubs won only 14 games in 33 attempts as a Jet. Winnipeg was suddenly finding themselves in the Sweepstakes, with out a pick... or as some would say, down creek without a paddle.
Trade deadline was fairly quiet. Not wanting to disturb chemistry, Not many moves were made. Brewer for a 3rd, Mclaren for a 6th, McKegg, and a couple other depth guys with no contract next year for late round picks this year and next. The Leafs as mentioned finished short of a spot, and the Jets finished dead last. Bozak ended up with just 24 points in 44 games.

Draft day was on it's way; and the lottery was won, by the Leafs. With what was supposed to be a 7th overall pick, quickly made into a 3rd overall pick. This is fantastic right? I won my own lottery, and scored a higher second pick while keeping the first. Naturally, McDavid was chosen. But I had eyes on a guy in the second round i was pretty sure I wasn't going to see by the time my pick (San Jose's) was up. So I dealed. After some intense negotiations between ottawa and new Jersey (7 and 6 overall), I finally traded with New Jersey for the 6th overall, and 35th overall, in return for my 3rd and 46th overall. I was excited to draft McDavid as well as Hanifin, but saw an opportunity to get a good defenseman at at least 8th, so i pulled the trigger to do so and also get my 2nd round man.
As luck would have it, Hanifin dropped and I got to chose him at 6th overall. Konecny of the Ottawa 67's by the way, was my 2nd round pick. (Not a fan, just he did well in my old EHM2007 game.) 12 picks were made, 3 in the 4th round. To think.. Bozak, Lupul, Bodie, a 4th and 5th, scored me McDavid, Hanifin and Konecny.

Fun note: My last pick, 7th round 181 overall, was Xavier Potvin, to what the fans are already dubbing... "The Kitten" (Felix's kid, the "Cat"). Free agency was quiet. Picked up a few depth guys, and lost prospects. Arizona for some reason couldnt sign Duclair so I got him. Spooner, Beck, and Gregory Campbell were signed for depth. The Roster is just going through it's final days of training camp, so i can't tell you what it looks like yet. I'll update in an hour or so. Oh, Guy Boucher is my new Head Coach, along with Gary Roberts (Forwards and PP) Wendel Clark (Defense and PK) and Curtis Joseph(Goalie coach) as new assistants. Greame Townsend also stayed on.

Roster is Currently like
Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Tarasenko
Kane-Plekanec-Gallager
SmithPelly-Prust-McCarron
Bornival-Mitchell-Weiss

Markov-Subban
Beaulieu-Myers
Despres-Petry

S-Price
B-Hammond

So far about 30 games in the season we are 18-7-5 floating around the conference price is by far the reason we are doing this good. are top scorer is Tarasenko with 26 goals and 15 assist. after would be patchs with 20 goals and 11 asssit and than Galchenyuk with 13 goals 32 assist with i find is really good 30 games in.
McCarron is having a standout year on the 3rd line and also playing some PP and PK. hes AVR is 8.60 which i find is really high for a 3rd liner he has 67 hits 30 PIM and has 6 goals 8 assist. so far happy with the game seems to play good in the early access and i am trying to convince as many people as possible to buy and support this great franchise and product. only thing i miss from EHM 2007 is that when you clicked on a player you had all the options on the left hand side as of now we have to click a drop down menu on the top right it is nothing big but it was just way more faster to call up and send down players and resigh them invite to training camp etc.

can you post your trades?
Sure i will try and post the screen shots tonight.

Oh, and I just picked up Jiri Sekac from waivers. I think the AI might need some better squad management.
After some carefully planned tanking, I managed to get the 1st overall pick, which I naturally used to draft McDavid. Question I have now is whether I should give him ice-time in the NHL or send him back to junior.

Given the way he looks in EHM (All the kids have really low technical skills, i kind of understand why since they will progress but i think it's over the top for kids like McDavid) i would keep him in juniors for another year and let him develop, especially since ur team might still be kind of Adam Oates for another season :P

Hey i lost in the cup final to Chicago as Montreal my first season. two of my high profile players didn't do well in the playoffs so i made a trade with buffalo to get there first round pick. I drafted Mcdavid he is on my 2nd line E.Kane-Mcdavid-Tarasenko and are playing well together. Kane has 12g 17a mcdavid 20g 15a tarasenko 26g 12a in 37 games. so i can say he is playing well as a rookie but would probly profit more from another season in junior i didn't see a lot of stat changes on him so far.

In my first year with Carolina, I won the regular season with 116 points, scoring 387 goals (290 against). I was eliminated by the rangers in the second round, after 4-0'ing the Maple Leafs. Lundqvist stood on his head and allowed 4 goals in the entire 4-1 series.

Point leaders [regular season]:
St. Louis with 51+62 = 113 [who, as other people reported, I picked up cheaply, see my transaction details in the other thread if curious]
Semin with 52+51 = 103 [missed 5 games]
Skinner with 48+64 = 91
E Stall with 87 (41+46) [missed 11 games]

Interestingly, Ryan Murphy had 12 + 64 = 76, and won the Norris.

I started with Sabres and even if the board expect to make the playoffs, I decided to continue to rebuild the team(I hope not get fired) After offered some players to the other teams, I received many offers. Here are the offers that i accepted!

Brian Gionta to PHI vs Nicklas Grossmann
Matt Moulson to MIN vs Marco Scandella
André Benoit to LA vs Jordan Nolan
Andrej Meszaros to SJ vs Pick 2 SJ 2015
Patrick Kaleta to EDM vs pick 3 OTT 2015
Chad Johnson to FLA vs pick 3 ANA 2015

I also called-up Mikhail Grigorenko and Matt Hackett from AHL and Sent back to junior Nikita Zadorov...

I have made offer to some UFA like Trevor Lewis and Jeff Halpern for reach the wage floor and fill the empty spot in my line-up. I still wait for their answer...

Hey guys, quick question:

Is there a way to control your AHL team's lineup?

I can view their roster, but cannot set the lines, which can be frustrating, because there's a couple guys on my AHL team that I'd like to be getting top line minutes, but they're playing on the 4th line.

Thanks!

Add a new manager and take control of your AHL team. I always play that way and controls the AHL & even the ECHL team along with the NHL team. I don't like the coaching of the AI and you can sign players you are intrested in with those teams to on try-out basis or to contracts and if they are good in the minors you can sign them with the NHL team. Doing it this way you don't have to use a useful spot of the 50's you only got for players in the NHL.

So, about to start my 2nd season at the helm of the Senators. And an interesting thing happened that I'm not sure was in EHM 2007, I was approached by Jordin Tootoo's agent, he was asking to give Tootoo a chance to prove himself, so I invited him to my training camp, low risk so whatever. I just found it interesting.

Anyway, during the last season got off to a great start and morale fell and then I tumbled in the standings anyway, traded off a few depth assests and whatnot ended up with Eberle (I had Voracek and flipped him for Eberle who scored 44 goals between the two teams.)
I also had grabbed the Hurricanes first round pick in preseason, they happened to win the lottery so hello McDavid, I also had the 10th overall pick and 20th overall picks.

Anyway, training camp is about to start with a ton of prospective talent, as well great depth on my forward lines (Ryan, Turris and Eberle all 30+ goal scorers, and tons of secondary scoring in Legwand, Stone, Chiasson, Zibanejad, and Michalek (who I'd like to produce more than 20 goals in a year). I think the weakest point of my team is goaltending and defense which I'm working on (I had Del Zotto but I flipped him for Seth Griffith) and Ceci is probably ready to make the jump from the AHL.

Also did anyone else seem to get leveled by injuries in about mid-March? I had about 5-6 players go down mid to long term in about 2 weeks time. It really just secured my a higher draft pick, but is it a bug, or just unlucky?

After doing some really crazy trades that had the fans and Board of Directors really mad, and my job on the line...

Second season ( After missing out by one point, decided in the final game of the season), one of the proudest moments of my gaming life!

Roster
G-J Bernier
G-T Greiss

D-C Fowler
D-R Josi
D-M Rielly
D-V Voynov
D-D DeKeyser
D-S Jones

LW-M Nieto
LW-M Paajarvi
LW-C Terry
LW - J van Riemsdyk

C-P Holland
C-J Josefson
C-A Loktionov
C-C McDavid (Almost lost my job giving 2 x 1st picks to get him)

RW-M Reinhart
RW-P Kessel (52 goals and a Rocket Award season, lost in last game of last round)
RW-R Panik
RW-T Toffoli
RW-J Eichel (Brought up to cover for an injured Kessel for Cup finals, Traded two first round picks to get his pick and almost lost my job again)

One of the most amazing emotional rides ever, and I never thought this type of game would be fun for me, but by god the challenge is so brutal, and I think I woke my neighbours when we won from yelling so loud.

Thank you all here for your help in providing tips.

I have started with the Flames and to my surprise we won the Western Conference :joy: . Like others I picked up Eric Cole off of waivers and just before the trade deadline traded Ramo to the Flyers for Wayne Simmonds (not sure the Flyers would have done that in real life!) although he has not been all that effective for me.

The surprising thing in the league is that neither the Leafs or Oilers were horrible: both finished 9th in their conferences. The (pleasant) surprise was the Canucks in 13th in the West! No other real surprises in standings.

Ovechkin scored 55 goals but Hudler came second with 54.

I was also surprised by the generally lower values in aggression and also with the kids. I sent Sam Bennett back to juniors but his technical skills will have to improve quite a bit to ever make the team. If this development is to occur I think it is an improvement to the EHM2007 where I didn't notice such a dramatic improvement from draft year to eventual NHL career.

Cheers

Schneides

Started a game with the Pens: Stanley Cup in 16 matches, Sid reached 175 points including play-offs.
Started a game with Edmonton: Scored 356 goals in regular season, Hall, Nugent-H and Eberle finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in overall points. Won the Stanley Cup again.
Started a game with Sudbury (OHL): I don't understand the rules, but I was fired with a 7-49-1 record. I could not find a goalie and if I did, I wasn't allowed to sign him. All my goalies averaged below 4.50 and with a .833 save percentage, winning is not an option. Worst match: 3-14 loss against Peterborough.

For the Oiler yeah they could become a great dynasty with the right moves need some experience up in there,
The flames i feel i would need to tank the 1st season and try and trade to get Mcdavid and Hanifin atleast. and since FA is not strong after season one i would have to make a move to bring in some talented guys.

I'm currently having a go with my 4th different team. This time I've decided to rebuild the mess that the Leafs are!
All my games before this one was somewhat realistic, but now it's really ridiculous.

I'm currently sitting 1st in the league with an amazing record: 35-8-2 (The leafs first in the league.. what the!)
Now where it's even more ridiculous:

These guys have ridiculous stats (they are not exact per say, I'm rounding them up) :

Kessel ( 45 goals, 45 assists)
St.Louis (40 goals, 45 assists)
Bozak (15 goals, 60 assists)
Nyquist (30goals, 30 assists)
Fowler (10 goals, 45 assists)
Phaneuf (5 goals, 35 assists)
JVR (20 goals, 20 assists)

But how is that possible!? Until a few games ago, Kessel was on pace to beat Gretzky's record for most goal in a season.
And for the most part of the season, I had 3 guys scoring 2 points per games. Half of my team has a average game rating over 8.00.

My team is by far 1st in the league for the most goals scored. (By at least 60!)
I am scoring 5+ goals per games (often winning 8 -0, 7-0, etc.)

I'm like happy and somewhat disappointed at the same time
Isn't that unrealistic?

What could be the cause of this non-sens?

HOW I got there..

Anyway, this was the first time I was really going to dive into all the micro stuffs. So I started by firing all the coaches and all the scouts (except 2 or 3 that had decent judging player ability and potential skill)

COACHES + PRACTICES
Head Coach: Tortorella (LOL.. deep down, I was hoping to make the team crash even more!),
Assistant Coach: Gretzky
Assistant Coach: Dan Bylsma
Assistant Coach: I'm currently forgetting his name but he has 20 coaching defense and really good (17+) in many other important areas
Goalie Coach: Tom Barrasso

Made a few practices scenarios (all with Intensive/Medium)...

TRADES (Only the first tree were made at the beginning of the year
-Lupul VS St.Louis
-Rielly VS Fowler
-Leivo + 3rd VS Nyquist
-Matt Greene (picked off waivers)
-3rd + 4th VS McClement
-Percy + 4th VS Vatanen
-4th + Nylander VS 3rd + Toffoli (Sad to let go my best offensive prospect, but could I resist that trade! God no!)
-Horton VS Pearson (needed to get rid of that big salary!)

I also landed a bunch of 2nd rounders while offloading a bunch of guys that didn't have any place in my lineup (Robidas, Brewer to name two..)

LINES + TACTICS
Kessel - Kadri - St.Louis
JVR - Bozak - Nyquist
Lindstrom - McClement - Komarov (now replaced with Toffoli)
Booth - Sill - Panik

Fowler - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Vatanen
Erixon - Greene/Polak

I've then spend a little while tweaking all my units:
Having two really offensive lines and two defensive one.
And individual players. (Making sure St.Louis makes ambitious passes, making sure JVR, Nyquist, Kessel shoots a lot!) I also made sure all defensemen were making safe passes, except for Fowler.
