Yes no trades until training camp begins.
In between season 1 and 2...there will be the time from the end of the season through to July 14 (with the exception of draft day) where you can make trades.
As for tracking your players...something may be coming soon from the Blue Line....in a form to do so.

uhm
but the rules say you are allowed to trade till July 14th in the first season
1. There will be a no trade period from July 15- September 14 for every season.
This includes year 1. NO TRADES OF ANY KIND ALLOWED during this time.
You may make deals during training camp, the regular season, and up until July 14th.

Yeah, maybe it should be reworded a little. The July 14th date has already passed in the first year. So you're able to make trades starting September 14th in the first season.

The Start date in the game, is at the earliest Aug 1 2006.
So since the earliest you can start the game is Aug 1..so no trades before beginning 2006-07 season.
The offseason trade zone is then nothing in the first year, til training camp.
2007 offseason until Jul 14, excluding Draft day.

Alright. My bad, I had wrongly assumed the game started on the 30th of July, not August.
One more thing, about draft day trades. I know other GMs respond real time and it's obviously not allowed to "abuse" this feature in this challenge. But what if I agree on a trade 2-3 days before the draft and just get to confirm it on draft day ?

No...cause it is like trade deadline day....on Draft day AI GM's (I believe) will not make deals on draft day that were offered before draft day actually arrives.
Easy answer...no trades on draft day.

No trades on draft day...even to pick down? I don't see it as a possible way to make a steal, so i'm just wondering

Don't feel bad, Shadd. (poet, and I don't know it

I asked exactly the same question when the rules were first presented.
batdad has spoken.

Yeah, yeah whatever bud! You were just trying to push your luck without reading the threads. BUSTED.......

What keeps someone from trading for 12 hours on trade deadline day? You get the same instant response, you know...

Yep...but we did not want to take it all away. Plus we know if you do too much on trade deadline day you can mess up your team chemistry good!
So..yeah trade deadline day is still okay with us. Maybe in the future we can change things up, but for this challenge we shall do it this way.

i think the next challenge should involve a fantasy draft, if it hasnt been done already, have certain stipulations, like only allowed to draft 2 people over the age of 30, or somethin like that, i just thought it'd be kinda cool, or not??

We just did a fantasy draft challenge not that long ago. I want to say it was 2 or 3 challenges ago. It's just too easy to stack a team in a fantasy draft. Maybe with all sorts of restrictions but that would take some serious time to figure out. Plus, our next challenge probably won't be for quite a long time. Don't forget... the Chicago challenge is supposed to be long term. We're looking at this one lasting several seasons.

Yep, the first challenge we did with EHM07 was challenge 5...the fantasy draft. It was my first one. So easy to stack a team, unless you played it like Timmy T and only drafted Americans.
Anyway, this challenge is designed to go up to 7 seasons. Hopefully, people will remain interested in it for that long so we can really give these rules a test. I think it will go as long as we have people interested, and then we can revisit rules and go from there with our challenges.

So, no trades from game start to Sept 14th.
Is it allowed to sign free agents before camp starts?
Posted: Mon Jul 30, 2007 7:10 am
by Lidas
... and aditionally - what counts as "free agency season" ?
Am I allowed to sign any free agents at all during the first season?
- If Im not allowed to sign before camp... can I sign after, or does the free agency season end when camp starts?
Does picking someone from waivers count as a free agent signing?
Sorry for all the Qs, but this will be my first challenge. Really looking forward to it, so I dont want to break any rules.

You are correct about the trade rules: No trading until Sept 14th.
You can sign 2 free agents each season, at any time during the season. You may want to wait until after the season starts to sign your 2 free agents (only the 1st season) because some players will get released by their NHL teams.
I believe that you can pick players up on waivers with no problems.
Hope I helped your questions...

Thanks, that made it clearer, but to make it crystal clear, when does a season start and end?
- If for instance I would sign Leech and Bondra on a free tranfer before camp starts, would I be able to sign two more player when the contracts expire (Jun/Jul change?), or would that count as 4 players during one season?

Rather surprisingly, I do have a question as well. I know I can re-sign my free agents and they don't count as free agent signings, but does that also apply if I re-sign them after they got "released" into the free market ? Example, Handzus is an UFA 2007, I don't re-sign him till free agency begins but in the middle of July when he's already a free agent, does he count as a free agent signing or does that still fall under the re-signing category ?

by Shadd666
Danny: i guess he would be under the re-signing category.
The rule states:
Your own free agents can be resigned or not
As the guy played for you, he is one of your
own free-agent, and so wouldn't count as one of the two FA signings.
At least that's how i understood the rule

May be wrong though

That's how I see it too. I know in the Toronto challenge Mats Sundin would not re-sign with me during the season. He wanted to wait until his contract ran out and he was a UFA. Then he signed for cheaper than I was offering. So I see that as re-signing one of your free agents.
Lidas, if you signed Leetch and Bondra (for example) for the first season (06-07), you could then sign two more free agents for the 07-08 season. The free agency period begins July 1st. That's when players leave their (NHL) teams and other teams are free to negotiate with them.

Thanks alot, its crystal clear now. Let the games begin!

All of the above appears correct. No issue resigning a guy even if he becomes UFA on you. As long as he was yours...you can resign him without using 1 of your UFA signings.
A season is from Jul 1 to Jun 30. When contracts expire, a new season begins for our purposes.
