Right, I'm in!
Might take me a while to get 20 games.. but I have found coaching to be quite fun.
doh... just realized that I posted my 'Core' at the end of training camp.. not the end of pre-season..
oh well.

Good to see some new people joining the challenge!

It's a great way to join the community here. Don't be shy about joining in the discussion here about your team.
It's okay if you submit your core early. I think I submitted mine before I even got to training camp. With this team it doesn't take long to figure out your core.

I found it pretty hard to decide on my C group players... I think everyone of them had 'limited potential' in thier scouting report

Posted: Mon Apr 21, 2008 4:10 pm
by bruins72
Yeah, most of the C guys are junk. That's why it's really not much of a decision.

A limited potential guy can still play a season or two... his stats just won't go up much.... or are they pretty much useless?
Posted: Mon Apr 21, 2008 4:28 pm

It depends on the guy really and also on whether your scouts got it right. For the most part, they're junk but in a pinch you can use them as 4th line players. Out of the guys we could choose for group C core players, I was able to find 4 of them that could make some sort of contribution to the team.

I've really been having trouble stringing together some wins lately. I've been losing a bunch of games by 1 goal. Then again, this started happening when I lost both York and Jovo for 10 days each, right at the same time. Zigomanis was missing during that stretch too but he's not much of a factor.

Great, after a good start with two wins against Islanders and Ducks, I lost to Blue Jackets with 5-0 and my top goalscorer Shane Doan is out for two weeks.

I've got 2 games left in my second 20 game block. I'm hoping I can get wins in those two games and that the Avalanche lose, so I can make the jump from 7th to 6th. I've struggled in this 2nd 20 games. If I win my next 2 games, I'll still have 1 less win than my first block of 20 games.
Where does everyone have LeNeveu playing? I sent him down to my ECHL affiliate so that he'd get plenty of ice time. I figured, I had Tellqvist down in San Antonio, why not let this kid get about all of the starts with the Roadrunners? I'm glad I sent him down there. He's been KILLING down there! He's won Saver of the Week 5 times. He's won Saver of the Month in each of the 3 months played. He also won Player of the Month and Performer of the Month (what's the difference?) for December. He's got a 23-5-4 record with a 1.39 GAA, .951 SV%, and 7 shutouts. I figure, I can leave him down here for the season, bring him to San Antonio for season 2, and then maybe use him as a homegrown for season 3 if he develops enough.

I use him in San Antonio, as I'm coaching them myself so far. So I let him play after that I got 2 losses with Tellqvist, If Tellqvist continues to lose his games he will be heading to Phoenix, the Roadrunners that is.

BOO-YAAAA!
I just got an EPIC night out of Shane Doan! We had a big wide-open game versus the Capitals (we won 9-5). I had moved Doan and Sjostrom up to the first line because the team had been struggling and I thought a change might help. York and Vrbata got put on the second line. How did Doan respond? With a 7 point night! He had 3 goals and 4 assists! He also had 10 hits and 1 blocked shot. EPIC! Oh, and our PP was 4/8 on the night. Gotta love that!

He is in Phoenix for me.
So my 20 games are in. Defensively I have this team playing some superior trapping hockey. At least it appears so. Aebischer and Auld have both played in 10 games, although I pulled Auld early in one, so really 11-9 Aebas
Aebs #s 7-1-2 1.00 .971 4SO 9.36 Avg rating
Aulds #s 7-3-0 1.62 .949 3SO 8.90 Avg rating
My next closest avg rating to these two who have been absolutely stellar is Jovo's 8.47 (he is injured right now) Reinprecht is also over 8 and is injured.
I just don't get it. Defensively this team is playing some amazing hockey. But darn...other than 3 games I cannot get them to score more than 3 times. But 2 of those games have been in the last 3 without Jovo. Hmmm.....

I played with the Coyotes in a game a couple of months ago and now I found the tactics that worked great for me back then. Even if I had traded in some players in that game, but I hope it will work this time too.

My 8 game winning streak was halted...by...
ST LOUIS. Who is 2nd in the conference, right behind me. Weird.
They beat me 4-1. No reinprecht. Vrbata, Michalek, Kapanen, Kaigorodov, and Bell all had 5 ratings.
Oh.oh.

How's that PP been doing, Batdad?

Care to make a trade in tactics?

If B72 got a epic game with Doan, I had a EPIC month with him.
He was awarded the Offensive player of the month-award after 22 points (10 goals + 12 assists) in 12 games.
And then Alexei Kaigorodov won the rookie of the month award after 10 points (1+9) in 12 games, he celebrated it by getting injured in ten days.

I think in my last set of 20 I will try different tactics...after sticking with a few of my comfortable strategys I usually use, I think I'm going to have to go into unchartered territory...and I might fire "The Great One"
I just don't play disciplined hockey no matter what I do....and I get outshot every night comfortably.

Well my second set of 20 didn't go well at all, four of my top six forwards were injured and it really hurt. Somewhat surprisingly the biggest result of Kaigorodovs season ruining injury was that my defence suffered big time when I moved Zigomanis to second line C.
Tjärnqvist and Kapanen are terrible for me, I think I might play Mueller on the NHL squad next season and save the season 3 HG spot for someone else - probably Hanzal since I hope Lisin will make the team next year as well.
Brittle bones award: York - he won't make his games played requirement if this injury rate continues.
Point shot award: Jovanovski - leading the league D-men in goalscoring with 10 goals
Inconsistency award: Aebischer - with a rating stretch of 5-5-9-4-8-10-5

Yikes! That's got to be rough with Zigomanis as your 2nd line center. I wouldn't want him anywhere near my second line. These things happen though, especially when you've got limited depth and a bunch of injuries.
You bring up a good point about maybe bringing Mueller in for season 2 and skipping using him as a homegrown. Hanzal and Lisin both cover that. I can take whichever is more ready when season 3 comes around and maybe save the other for season 4. I also think this first draft is going to be VERY important.
Hey Batdad, I was happy to get 5th! Not all of us have the voodoo tactics!

I'm still loving my PP though!
