Well that chart should help, but generally I don't rate guys over 11 unless they're scouted as being really really good or are top notch prospects.

Exactly! Follow the chart. Find the player's CA and look at that line on the chart. Go conservative. Just because the maximum attribute for the player's CA is (for example) 16, doesn't mean you have to give him a 16 in any attribute. I usually put most attributes at about + or - 1 or 2 points of the average. Then I read the scouting report to see what they consider the player's strengths. Those attributes will probably be 2 or 3 points less than the maximum unless the report says he has NHL abilities in that area and then he *might* get the max. The same goes with the player's weaknesses. I won't give him the minimum unless it's really bad. Just play it conservatively and you won't over-rate a player. If think you might be over-rating a player, dial it back some.
Also, when putting in the player's PA, make sure to use the rating given at Hockey's Future and match it up with corresponding PA that Lidas gave. If we just go making up our own PA's, it won't be consistent. Plus, we might tend to over-rate players we like or our favorite team's prospects.

You don't know how hard it was not to do that with Lehner for the Senators. I didn't agree with HF's rating for him, but I didn't change it. I figure I'll do that when Lidas releases his roster.
Anyways, Philadelphia is done.

02m3smg, can I expect your Toronto research soon, or shall I give it to another researcher?

Canuckk, do you have the pre-game database editor? You can use that to look up the ratings on comparable players from Lidas last db. Also grab bruins72 spread sheet that's linked on the first page of this thread to see how he did his.
This link should be of great help:
http://www.thebreakaway.net/forums/show ... php?t=4539
Especially this part.
Average, minimum and maximum attributes by CA
CA AVR MIN MAX
10 4,5 1,0 10,5
20 5,0 1,0 11,0
30 5,5 1,0 11,5
40 6,0 1,0 12,0
50 6,5 1,0 12,5
60 6,0 1,0 13,0
70 7,5 1,5 13,5
80 8,0 2,0 14,0
90 8,5 2,5 14,5
100 9,0 3,0 15,0
110 9,5 3,5 15,5
120 10,0 4,0 16,0
130 10,5 4,5 16,5
140 11,0 5,0 17,0
150 11,5 5,5 17,5
160 12,0 6,0 18,0
170 12,5 6,5 18,5
180 13,0 7,0 19,0
190 13,5 7,5 19,5
200 14,0 8,0 20,0
Lidas's potential formula is on page two.
Yeah, I already have the pre-game editor, and I've used it a bit to create and edit some players, so I'm fairly familiar with all that. I'm just afraid of overrating guys and such, but I can definitely give it a shot. Thanks for the help.
Just give it your best shot. If you happen to rate the players too high, I'm still the one who inputs the data, and I'll be careful not to overrate anyone.

Hey, I'm sorry but I think you're gonna have to give Edmonton to someone else. I'm really busy in school this week, and leaving to New York on friday, so it would be a two week delay, atleast. If someone wants to continue where I left off, here are all the players basic info in the excel:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3EXBBBHY
I didn't input any attributes, only names, place of birth, team, PA, etc.
Sorry that I took your time by not realising I can't finish the project.

Okay, so I think I understand what exactly I need to do a lot better now. I've started the Canucks prospects, and should be done in a few days or so.
Quick question, though: For forwards, should I be replacing the 0 rating for ability to play D with something suiting to their ability to QB the PP, etc? Right now I've replaced, for example, Hodgson's 0 with a 7 for both RD and LD, since Hockey's Future states he's good at QBing the PP. Is that reasonable or should I keep it even lower? Or should I just not edit those ratings at all?

Also, there are several Canucks prospects that are not in the current database at all (ie. Anton Rodin, Mario Bliznak, etc). Should I actually create player ratings myself, including CA, or should I leave those blank for someone else to do? Some of the prospects have very limited information about them available, so it's difficult to, say, assign staff attributes to a guy playing in Europe, but I can give it a shot anyways.

The database uses national spelling and those players you listed are there. Anton Rödin and Mario Bliznák is how they are spelled

I say only do as much as you're confident you can do. If you have no info on a player then leave their attributes blank. If you only have a couple of things then just do those.
I could give you my Colorado and Islanders spread sheets if you want to take a look at them. I'm not sure how closely Lidas has looked at them but he seems ok with them right now. Might give you an idea what to do.
Not sure how to handle the powerplay QBs. Never thought about it actually.

Ah, should've thought of that I suppose. However, now that I found Rodin, I find that his CA is hugely underrated - am I allowed to adjust the CA at least slightly? It's currently at 44, which I feel is pretty low for a player of his talent.
EDIT: Turns out Rodin's attributes are almost all 0, so I guess it was worth it to rate him myself after all. I'm pretty sure my ratings are fairly accurate, so hopefully they'll do. I'll go over them in detail myself and make sure nothing is overrated, at the very least.
Anyways, thanks for the help.

Okay, well I did do my own rating for Rodin but now I know he is in fact in the DB, so I guess I'll have to compare and maybe adjust the DB ratings slightly based on how I rated him (I put a fair bit of research into it, actually).
I think I can probably finish it at this point, so I probably won't need those spreadsheets, but I'll let you know if I do, thanks.

I have actually done some work on Rödin earlier, but if you want to, you can work on him yourself too, and I can compare my values to yours. Btw, he has CA 57 in the newest version.

Lidas, sorry I wasn't able to help with this. I was planning on doing a few teams, but work has kept me busy and I was out of town a few times as well.
In any case, I am looking forward to this update coming out soon, I have stopped playing the game while waiting for the new roster!!
