Didn't the league create some sort of deadline for signing free agents? I know RFA's has to be signed by a certain date in December to be able to play in the league. Is there one for UFA's?

Alexei Semenov goes to Rangers, i'm not sure is this said before.

P.S. I hope that everybody checks Flyers new player, Mika Pyörälä's, play. He is 28-year-old "rookie", who has been amazing in training camp and he has played in first line with Gagne and Richards and in fourth line Cote etc. He can play in every role, even in goalie :-D , ok that's joke but he is the "Finn to watch". He makes everything for his team, and i'm sure that he plays whole season in NHL. He should be rookie of the year, but it's impossible cause of his age, but anyway, i hope you watch Flyers games, and especially Pyörälä.

Sorry that's late, but i think i know what's the story in Theoren Fleury's case.

Calgary need somekind of advertising, and they think they can advertise their brand by calling Theo to training camp. Calgary hope that Theo failes (like Jason Allison in Toronto) and they don't have to sign him. Theo was Calgary's star in training camp, scoring gamewinning goal in shootout in their first home game (second exhibition game overally) and playing well in other matches. Media was interested more about him than Iginla, Kipper, OJ, Bouwmeester, Phaneuf etc. Calgary knows before training camp that they're not going to make contract with Theo, and then Theo plays well, so Calgary have to let him go.

Calgary failes, Theo doesn't. :)

Theo plays well in training camp, and those games were great end to his great career cause now everybody remember him scoring that shootoutgoal in Calgary's homegame =D>, not so many remember his mess with cocaine and alcohol. One day he could be in Hockey Hall Of Fame, i think.

The Devils cut Brendan Shanahan. I wonder if he's going to hang up his skates and call it a career now?

I think I remember hearing that they have changed it for this season just so that won't happen again

According to Kevin Allen at USA Today, he is retiring.

I'd like to see big UFA signings have a cut-off date but you never know when a team might need to make depth signings though. You might lose somebody for the season due to an injury and not have any prospects ready. I could see making a UFA signing in the middle of the season because of that. But I hate seeing these older players stretching things out and signing late in the season so that they don't have to play a full season. Plus, it's a distraction.

Wouldn't surprise me if they picked Tavares... Probably Weight though. Or Witt. :dunno:

Weight is pretty sure captain, or Brendan Witt (currently A), maybe Trent Hunter or John Tavares. :-k

I think it would be a bad idea to slap the C on Tavares. The kid has enough pressure as it is already.

I agree. But wouldn't surprise me if he was...

True! This is the Islanders we're talking about.

Not even the Isles are that dumb. There will be no "c" for Tavares. Not one in his name, not one on the uniform, not one in New York Islanders. The only time he will ever see a C is when he moves to a team that has a C in its name. Like the Kansas City Islanders. And then they will trade him.

Like your optimism Batdad. :-D

But i think Witt or Weight are the best player available for the C in the Isles. I don't see another player have this letter....no way Tavares will have it.

Tavares is alexander Daigle with a bigger attitude.

I always thought he was a little bit overrated. His last year in the OHL he nerver did better than the first seasons, like he has reach his peak. I don't know we will see.

FOR THE FOLOWING MESSAGE PLEASE DON'T TORTURE ME, KILL ME OR WATHEVER

i think Tavares will be better than the most surestimaded player in the nhl: Sydner the baby Crosby

Thank you

I wouldn't torture you ehmfans. :-D But i really think that Tavares will maybe not be the ''savior'' the Isles need. He's certainly good, but not as almost everybody thinks.

Like i said, when he came in the OHL he burnt everything, but with the years, he seems to have peak a little bit, look at his stats :

- First season, 45 goals, 32 assists for 77 pts.
-Second season, 72 goals, 64 assists for 134 pts
-Third season, 40 goals, 78 assists for 118 pts
-Fourth season, 58 goals, 46 assists for 104 pts

You see he got a good first season, a really outstanding second season but then, he seems to didn't maintain the rythm. I don't know, maybe he should do a year in the AHL, Tavares got the same travel as Rob Schremp, i don't think both of them are the same, but for now they follow the same path from the junior career to the NHL. Maybe Tavares will be sent to the AHL after a couple of games if he don't do anything good....like Schremp.

Plus, i don't know if i'm the only but....i didn't really hear of some oustanding performances from him in the training camp, i've heard of his ''first goal'' but not something like Tavares really impress everybody! He made 6 points in this game and score 4 goals in another! I know it's exagerated but i don't really feel Tavares for now.

The main difference in me thinking Tavares is not the god some think him to be....

When he played for the Jr team last season, he was NOT the player that made that team tick. Yeah he was a year younger than most....but man...all the talk about him made you think he was gonna pop 4 goals every single game. I just don't see him as a leader, or a top level player.

No matter what anyone says about Sid the Kid...he is a top level player, and he is a leader, and he now has the Cup and the stats to back that up. Yes he has Malkin. But man he is still one of the top 2 or 3 players out there. tavares will be top 20, but never top 3. I joke a bit with the Daigle comparison, but with all the hype...it could easily go that way.
