Just finished my 2nd season with the Sabres. Had a terrible start to the year, we were last in the league but we made a great turn around and won the Stanley Cup

Currently running the Rangers in the third season. Had a good first two seasons, winning the Cup in the second. Having trouble getting Henrik Lundqvist to perform well game in and game out. For a while this season, his G.A.A. was nearly 4.00, much higher than I expect of him. I added Crosby to my team last season and he's been tearing it up for us ever since.

Crosby + Jagr would be sick.

The same thing always happens to me when i start a European job (this time Lillehammer in Norway) - i plan to keep it until i win the league, but then get bored and quit. So i looked to see who the worst NHL team was in December 2024, it was a tie between the blues and blue jackets, both teams had only made the playoffs twice in 18 years of gameplay. i was leaning to taking over the blues until i realized that they just hired a new GM the previous week, so instead i replaced the 67 year old Lindy Ruff in Columbus.
The team has some young talent, but is mostly full of third liners and good ahl guys. The only real players left are 40 year old Phil Kessel and Jamie Benn. so the start of the 25-26 season will be full-regen. The top defenseman is a guy i drafted in 2010 (when i was with NYR), and they have a minor leaguer i drafted with the Senators in 2020. Its coming up to the trade deadline now and i'm trying to deal my second line left wing who will be unrestricted at the end of the year. i've been stockpiling picks and have 1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5,6,7 in the coming draft. the second 1st round pick will be probably be in the 27-30 range, but i should have enough assets to get who i want in the draft.
Currently bouncing between 9th and 15th in a tightly packed eastern conf. goalies have been erratic, giving up 4-5 goals most nights followed by the occasional shutout.

I'm heading into the 13/14 season with my Calgary Flames. So far we have reached the Stanley Cup-final once. But that was far away in the first season. We lost to the Washington Capitals. Things haven't gone as good since that first season. But we've reached the playoffs all years except the 09/10 season.

But the team is rather young and very talented!
The possible lines as we are getting ready for the upcoming season! New players are Marc Staal, Troy Brouwer and Chris Kunitz from free agency, Bruno-Pier Amadio as a signed prospect and Tomas Mason has been picked up from Abbotsford.

Seth Ambroz - Brayden Scenn - Gabriel Landeskog (C)
Kim Lindholm - Eric Almgren - Florian Boutin
Fredrik Sjöström - Colin Jacobs - Troy Brouwer
Bruno-Pier Amadio (A) - Tim Reid - Joni Talvitie
Chris Kunitz - Brian Boyle

Marc Staal (A) - Kevin Shattenkirk
Tim Erixon - Ryan Murphy
Antonin Pohl - Rasmus Rissanen
(7th defender will be claimed of waivers)

Michael Beauchamp
Tomas Mason

Kim Lindholm and Eric Almgren are Markus Näslund and Peter Forsberg. They both come from the same town which is pretty funny, it's just like IRL. :)
And Bruno-Pier Amadio is born in Calgary and has only played for clubs in Calgary! I guess he likes to stay home.
We also have a couple of nice prospects in the minor and junior leauges.

During my years as GM these awards has been won by Calgary players:
06/07: -
07/08: Art Ross Trophy - Olli Jokinen
08/09: Calder Trophy - Gabriel Landeskog
09/10: -
10/11: Art Ross Trophy - Brayden Schenn
11/12: Calder Trophy - Eric Almgren
12/13: Calder Trophy - Florian Boutin

I'm doing a unemployed one, with default rosters. First job offered was the Cardriff Devils of the EIHL. They were 12-12-3-2 when I took over and ended up staying around .500, made the playoffs, knocked off the #2 team but got stomped by the #1 team. Shook up the team in the offseason by signing about 15 players and releasing a bunch of scrubs. Media has me ranked #2 going into season two.

I am playing with Eisbaren Berlin, I am in 08/09 season. Won three titles, and as Germany reached 6th place at world ranking, I will play ECC. I hope I will get chance to lead some country at upcoming Olympics.

Prior to this season signed Tom Kuhnhackl, who was drafted, but never played for Pens in game...

So a couple of weeks ago, I decided that the Stars challenge was not interesting enough for me. I then set up my first ever "start unemployed" game, and set the players names to not real names. That way, I figured once the game had moved on a bit I would not recognize too many guys.

First of all...for those who think the names are just disguised--yeah they are. But the Sedin's for example are NOT on the Vancouver Canucks. So it may be more than just names disguised. Nationality may be as well. I don't know. :dunno:

Now...I started as a rec player, just to see what would happen. I was turned down for jobs in October (OHL), November (RSL), December (Finnish league), and finally on January 25, 2007 I was accepted as the General Manager of a Swedish Allskevan team...Almtuna.

Almtuna--was in 9th place at that time, with 10 games left in their short season. They finished in 9th place. I was flying by the seat of my pants, learning transfer rules, loan rules and everything. Never had played in this league, and had no idea what to do. I have learned a ton.

I set my rule as I MUST manage a team for a complete season, before I can move on. I have decided my next step is the WHL, but am not ready to leave Almtuna. I just finished the regular season of 2007-08. I FINISHED 1st in the Allskevan. This was thanks to a great signing I made in the off season, a change in goaltending half way through the season, and a couple of decent loan players.

I AM NOT COACHING at all. Just the manager. Anyway...very pleased with the team, and cannot wait for the Promotion playoff. I hope to get this team promoted to the Elitserien...and then will have to see what is available for jobs. So far in the WHL I have missed out on: Spokane (2x)-once their guy retired and the second time it was Gretzky ( can tell from his bio that the unnamed guy) who was the Spoke manager moved up to the BOSTON BRUINS (their third GM in 2 seasons), Portland, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Lethbridge and Tri City. Regina has always been on warning. Hopefully something available soon. If not..I will remain in Almtuna to at least start the 2008-09 season.

I will bring at least a staff member with me from job to job, and may bring a player over (age dependent..also for this move issue is IMPORT draft)

So we shall see how things go. So far this has been a great learning experience in EHM for me. EVen after all these years.

I may or may not join the Nords challenge as this is fun.

My current save that I am playing is the LA Kings. In the past I have stayed away from large markets cause it was too easy to lure the top free agents but quickly found out that isn't the case. Just finished the 2027 season with the cup which was the first one after 5 runner ups in 20 years. A few things that have surprised me is first my team can be bad, really bad for long periods of season and not even be threatened to be fired. The other is year by year my team makes less money than my Nashville save.

Key players are Chara regen, I think Brodeur regen, and a stud center only USA born player who I have no idea who it is in RL. I was able to draft all 3 of these guys and very surprising to me is the highest pick of those 3 was #8. I landed Chara at #23 (almost missed him but a 6'9" Dman stand out) and Brodeur slipped to the second round forget which pick.

All my teams always stress defense first so I don't have any eye popping stats except for my goalie who in the last 3 years has posted 2.39 2.11 and 2.01 goals against while having a save % over 0.920 I would have to check but pretty sure I have failed to make the playoffs only 5 times in that span. However 2 of those were just recent including a dead last finish with only 55 points. The following season wasn't that much better with 73 points and somehow managed to keep my job.

Overall I have controled LA, Nashville, Boston, Vancouver, and Buffalo. I don't think I have ever made it this far and not been fired least once. Guess that means I am learning haha.

I don't know if it work like that in the game but maybe the fact you got more experienced doesn't get you fired. The board can be more patient with you. :dunno:

Maybe but I always thought it had a lot to do with how passionate the fans are and what kind of expectations were placed on you and how well or bad you are currently doing in league standings. Really it is an easy thing to get around even when fired. My Boston save I have probably been fired 4-5 times.

I wonder if you are ranked 30 in the league and got the mediocre season expected you will not be fired and if you're ranked 20 and you're 25 now you got alot of chances to be fired. Can someone answer that?

Ok...so my unemployed game update.

I worked in Almtuna IS and 2006-07 I was hired Jan 07. I finished off that season with the team, and kept them from having to play in relegation from Allskevan. Then the next year, I brought in new staff and players (remember playing with non-real names. I was promoted to Elitserien after the 2007-08 season.

I began 08-09 with Almtuna, and changed the head coach and again brought in a few players, some more expensive and some the same price. Ended up loaning out a couple guys...My budget was increased a fair bit, but still not a ton. Bought a dman and a RW (both had played for me under loan the previous year).

In October, I was in 6th place with the Almtuna team (Which surprised my board as they were predicted last.) I was doing very well and had become attached to the team.

However...one of my fave teams was floundering. The REgina Pats. They had won only 1 of 10 games in October. I applied for the job when they canned the GM, and got it. Wow...what a horrible team. End of October. This team is horrendous.

My first game...I am not coaching...was a 10-1 loss to the Vancouver Giants. My first goalie let in 9 goals on 11 shots. Fired the coach, and brought in a new assistant and some scouts as well. Then lost to Edmonton 2-1 on a last minute goal.

Anyway...have to scout for the draft. This team is so dumb, they had 9 16 year olds on the roster...Only 2 can play in each game. So had to make a couple moves, before I had even scouted much just to get enough vets in the lineup to play.

Lets see how it goes. I will stay with the Pats a minimum of 2 years from my date of hire. Unfortunately, none of my ALmtuna staff will come over right now. Will see what I can pull off in import draft, as I have two Almtuna players who want to come over and are eligible. Neither has a big contract, so we shall see.

Toronto Maple leafs- 2009/10- original DB

Coming 53-23-6 in the 08/09, finish 3rd in the East, winning the Northeast division and winning the Stanley Cup.

Now the Leafs isn't doing that well as we are 24-22-1 after 47 games sitting at 7th place.

The squad are: Kovalchuk- Datsyuk- Kariya
Semin- Sundin- Smyth
Pandolfo- Sharp- Willis
Gibbons- Kesler- Bradley

Niedermayer- Hannan
Volchenkov- Brewer
Allen- Bieksa

Niittymaki- Gerber

Prospect- Esposito, Hamill, Kane, Vorobiev

May trade Semin as he on his last year of his contract, so i can put Esposito on, waiting for Sundin to retire so Hamill can take his place.

I can't repeat my success like last years, any help here

Playing the 3.2 DB from Manimal, took over Philadelphia and moved quickly to make some more moves.

Sent Versteeg and 2nd to Nashville for Rights to Shea Weber (He signed a 2yr/$2.5M deal =P~ )
Then Got Simon Gagne to agree to a 3yr/$2.8M deal
Sent Michael Leighton and 4th to Washington for Jason Chimera.

Other moves in the NHL are:
Ottawa won the Brad Richards Sweepstakes along with bringing in Andy Greene, Blake Comeau, Blake Wheeler and Cory Stillman
Detroit was BUSY signing Jovo-cop, McCabe, Rivet, and Cole among others.
Montreal pulled Carcillo, Upshall, Higgins and Turco
Isles signed Theodore, Brunette, and Langenbrunner
Jets got Kovalev
The poor Rangers had to settle for Tim Connolly and Mike Ryder
Carolina got Z.Michalek from Pittsburgh for a 4th...
Tampa Bay got Vokoun(Made them the #3 team ranked)
Glen Sather finally rid himself of the Redden deal sending him to Nashville for a 4th =D> =D>
Funny one is Chris Gratton signed with Buffalo

LINES: Scott Hartnell-Daniel Briere-Jakub Voracek
Simon Gagne-Claude Giroux-James van Riemsdyk
Jason Chimera-Brayden Schenn-Wayne Simmonds
Jody Shelley-Blair Betts-Andreas Nodl

Chris Pronger-Shea Weber
Kimmo Timonen-Braydon Coburn
Matt Carle-Andrej Meszaros

Bryzgalov-Bobrovsky

EDIT:
Of course season starts off rough....Lost to the Pens 4-3(Crosby late), followed by a 8-2 whooping by the Rangers(5/9 on PP) and a 3-1 Loss to the Rangers.
Injuries hit hard as I lost Hartnell, Simmonds, and Briere in those games for a 2 weeks each...

Then the team comes together for two great wins. 5-1 Win vs MTL and a 3-0 Win vs the 3-0 Devils(Marty was 3-0 with a .67GAA with 2 SO. Bob made 33 saves :joy: )

So an update on my unemployed game.

I started the 2008-09 season with Almtuna, and had them promoted (from 07-08 season when I ran for the whole year with them as GM). In November the job I had been hoping for finally came up. The Regina Pats of the WHL. The Pats had languished both season in the cellar of the WHL, or near it. They were last in their division both 2006-07 and 07-08. They had no prospects to speak of save one kid from the 08 draft (not eligible to play). The rest of the guys were garbage.

I had been watching the team checking up on them every so often, as it seemed their GM was hopeless, and always at least had the "insecure" tag in the job info screen. Finally..after they got off to a very poor start (Last in division again, and 15 points out of a playoff spot --only 2 teams to pass to get to playoffs) he was canned. I applied for the job, and at the end of November it was given to me.

So...I left Almtuna and off I went. I tried to get a staff member to come with me (any players would have to go through import draft) but noone was interested. I made a mental note...for the import draft. Anyway...just a brief update on Almtuna...they finished 4th in the SEL, and were eliminated by Frolunda in the 2nd round of the playoffs there. A very good season for them, and hopefully under their new GM they can keep up the great work.

I then took Regina, and moved them up the ladder. COnsistently going up and up. Finished 2nd in the division. Played the first round vs Brandon and won the series in 7 games. Did the same with Red Deer in 7. Then we beat Moose Jaw in 7 as well (came back from 3-0 down in the series...WOW!) Finally faced the Vancouver Giants in the WHL final...got up 3 games to zip. Then the Giants fought back. Lost the next 3. Finally...game 7. All 4 rounds. And we won in OT on a goal from our 4th line.

Then we flamed out at the Mem Cup.

Next up my draft success and the plan for 2009-10

In my 7th season with the Calgary Flames, won the cup twice but its been 3 years and I haven't come close since. Made the playoffs as an 8th seed and eliminated the 1st place Presidents Trophy winning San Jose Sharks in 6 games, what an upset! Here is my line-up:

Tanguay-Zubrus-Perry
Bourque-Backlund-Brown
Fedotenko-Handzus-Duffy*
Vail*-Talbot-Landeskog

Bouwmeester-Bodrov*
Giordano-Commodore
Stuart-Sarich

Esche
Gustavsson

*Drafted players.
