Petr Sykora was paid out by Minnesota to free $613.471 under cap.
Washington send Nylander to Jokerit on loan contract and they (Washington) will pay Nylander's salary. Not a bad deal for Jokerit

I don't get the Petr Sykora "buyout" either. I am thinking they just gave him the cash and he is free to go play in any league save the NHL. The $ will still count against Minny Salary Cap for this season I would assume.

Did they waive him? Once he's been waived and is off their roster (usually it means sent down to the AHL but I guess a loan to another league would count) I believe he comes off the Cap. The whole key here is that the other teams in the league need to have the chance to claim him.

Yeah, they waived him and noone claimed.

That explains it then.

They were allowed to buy him out because of a breach of contract. He failed to report to the AHL team after clearing waivers.

He had a nice assist tonight on Lucic's goal. But missed an open net shorthanded

He was right back in the middle of it at least

Best game in weeks, didn't deserve to come out of it with nothing to show for. For once they weren't lazy but unlucky...if that's any better. Dominated the flow of the game for most parts, wasted at least a dozen chances from prime shooting areas. Miller is spectacular this season.

Jonas Hiller sign a 4 years extension contract with the Ducks.

Great move!
Mike Green has been suspended for 3 games because he hit Frolik with is elbow.

Yeah, Hillers really playing well this year. Shame it can't be said for Giguere as he was an idol growing up. Time to move him now Ducks. 2 high paid goalies on the pay roll isn't good.
Green's a douche. He got nailed by Stillman earlier in the shift and comes back by elbowing Frolik. Classless.

Phoenix Coyotes retired Teppo Numminen's jersey.

He is 2nd finnish player whose jersey has retired.
It's interesting that i didn't found any news about that in nhl.com. When N-A born players jersey has retired, there has been lots of video clips and interviews etc.

When asked if Stajan and Hagman were the main compotents. Someone said "It's bigger than that".

Phaneuf, Aulie and Sjostrom to Toronto for Stajan, Mayers, Hagman and White.
Good deal Burkey. Keeping Kadri and Schenn and gettin Phaneuf is great.

Let's look at what Burke has done since arriving....
Traded a 32 year old Czech defenceman (Kubina) for a 28 year old North American defenceman (Exelby).
Signed 27 and 29 year old North American defencemen (Beauchemin and Komisarek).
Signed a 24 year old Swedish goaltender considered the best outside the NHL (Gustavsson).
Signed two late-blooming, fast-skating, offensive minded college free-agents (Hanson and Bozak).
Traded two 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick for a 22 year-old sniper who already has a 36 goal season in the NHL (Kessel).
Also has a 20 year old 1st round pick defenceman with a full season in the NHL (Schenn).
Has another 23 year old left winger who is already starting to come into his own (Stalberg).
Now he trades for a 24 year old North American defenceman (Phaneuf), who was recently a Norris trophy finalist...and in the process also acquired another 20 year old North American defence prospect (and a strong defensive forward to help with the worst penalty-kill in the league)...
and a 32 year old goaltender (Giguere) to serve as a mentor to the young goalie he already signed, and who has previously won a Stanley Cup, and has worked with the team's current goaltending coach, while getting rid of two 35 year olds with bloated contracts.
I don't know about you....but that sounds like a pretty good foundation in 1 1/2 years.....the Leafs are now one of the youngest, if not THE youngest team in the league.
