1-1 and it is a good game-Switzerland should have scores on a breakaway back then...

Today greatest match would be Slovakia vs Czech Republic. It would be match full of emotions.

Hey, Fortune...during the games Czech and Slovak fans often yell something that sounds like "Vee keh gar" (I know that's probably not what they're yelling

). Anyhow, what is the phrase and what does it mean?

hehe, I think you mean "my chceme gol" -> that means: we want goal (to score)

Thank you. I've been wondering what they're really yelling for years.

This Russia-Canada game is just a tiny bit physical...

Going into the third and still 0-0...could be a cracking final period

Oh what a thriller it was, FIN vs USA that is. Finland bascily defended whole third period, and boy was the last 50 seconds painfull to watch. Niittymäki played again a great game, and he is the reason why we won. darn I'm happy

.
Oh and, the referee was the worst i've seen in this tournament, he was kinda lost the whole time and gave some weird penalties.

"0" Canada
As Slovakia is out of the tournament, I'm lending my support to the brotherly Slavic nation of Russia. Then Finland.
I'm not that fond of Czechs tho.

Finland and the U.S. was pretty much the first game I watched. You just know who's going to clear the groups so why bother.
I can't believe the North Americans are so bad. Everyone really beat the hell out of them, maybe it's got something to do with the big rink but it's still a real embarrassment to them. Finland walked all over the States in the first few minutes, on paper the U.S. are way stronger than us.

I've made quite a few comments about how poorly constructed the US team was and I am one of the only people int he world I guess who think there's nothing that fantastic about the great Mike Modano who again choked under pressure so I'm not at all surpised really. The only player that really played well was Eric Cole who was a real impact player.
I like everyone else though had no such questions about the super-stacked Canadian team though; I'd like to once again point out however that some people may want to refer back to my comments about how not having both Jovonovski
and Niedermayer was, in fact, a big deal. And to hear a broken, drained, and pale Wayne Gretzky talking ot Bob Costas about it so was the fact that neither Lemiuex or Yzerman were even brought along for off-ice leadership was a big deal too.
Personally I can't help but have just a small smile as I chalk this one up to karmic retribution from the absolutely rediculous "looney under the ice at an international competition" swagger and the resulting "we are the greatest team to ever strap on skates and this and every contest we skate into is over before it begins" smugness and general classlessness and poor sportsmanship shown the last time the team won.
I'm sure that all left as bad if not a worse taste in the mouth of teams like Russia and Sweden and Czechoslovakia and Finland who now all have what in common? Oh yeah, they are still competing for Olympic Medals.
When it comes to world comps I am not zealously pro-USA and just because I am a US citizen that doesn't make me anti-Candian either. I root
against nobody and
for an exciting match; "my" team winning would be great, sure. It would make me a lot happier too, but I'm not all

over Team USAs lack of results and I'm not going to be all

about Canada joining them in the non-medal qualifying group either.
I just think that the Canadian World team and everyone from player to coach to announcer to writer to weatherman who used the event to put on their loudest, brashest most over the top pro-Canada colors and wave them in anyone within reaches face while boasting on and on about their inherent greatness solely based upon location of birth?? They were being obnoxiously poor winners. Maybe as they all spend tommorow declaring the End of the World they can look back on it and say to themeselves that maybe they deserved this, just a little bit, and not be quite so surprised that the rest of the world hasn't ceased to exist because they didn't win "their game".
And maybe the team can think back and wonder what would have happened had they put in the effort that undermanned and outclassed in talent Switzerland and Italy brought to the rink every game. I'm not going to put words in their mouths and say they expected to put on a Team Canada sweater and not break a sweat as they were destined to win the gold; but with that much talent and this little result
especially with all the shutouts?!?! You have to ask if they just thought they'd show up and go dirrectly to the winners platform to collect their medals.

Ut is a shame that the Finland-Russia game isn't the final. They are now the best teams (on form) left in the tournament.

Thats a bit harsh Minty, Although I'm sure theres more then a few Canadians who feel that way, lumping the whole team and country like that really isn't cool.
In related news, all tall buildings in the country have been closed down for the next week and a giant net has been placed at the bottom of Niagra Falls.

Jesus, Mike.
TORINO, Italy (AP) -- Mike Modano packed up his stuff and left Italy on Thursday morning, skipping a final meeting with his Olympic teammates after they were eliminated a night earlier in the men's hockey quarterfinals.
USA Hockey spokesman Dave Fischer said the longtime Dallas Stars forward -- who sharply criticized team management after the Americans' elimination Wednesday -- was the only member of the 23-player squad not to gather at the arena where the Americans were knocked out by Finland.
Modano lashed out after he was benched by coach Peter Laviolette for most of the third period of the 4-3 loss.
"A lot of guys have been there for many years, and maybe we need some new blood in there to run things a little differently,'' said Modano, who has represented the U.S. in 11 international competitions. "It's probably time some things changed.''
When pressed for details of his complaint, Modano cited logistical problems in getting the full team of NHL players and their families over to Europe.
"You'd think USA Hockey would be a well-oiled machine, but it's not,'' he said. "Basically we were on our own for hotels, tickets, flights, stuff like that.''
Modano caught a flight home Thursday. The rest of the team was scheduled to leave Friday morning, before the start of the weekend's medal-round games.

What a Modano.

The #1 thing to change is to stop bringing Modano to these events. He is a whiner, and every time I see his picture, especially in EHM, he looks like he is going to cry. What a jerk!

Hehe Cze 1 - 1 Swe after 3 mins!
Czech's goal was fantastic: The puck bounced off the post onto the back of the G's leg and into the net

Yes, it is. It turned out to be a smart move by the coaches.

Nothing like tanking a game so you get an easy quarter final opponent and all of your players are rested.

Wow!! The swedish team is really rolling right now!!!
They have scored 13 goals in the last 2 games!!!!
I really liked their game, good backchecking and excellent on the offense!!....curious to see Forsberg play on the wing!!
The czechs seemed a bit...dont know...like something was missing, like they were playing without a reason!!
Looking forward to see the finns against the russian!!! Think gonna be a great game!!!
