Acapella
I picked up my first skill yesterday, after completing 17 assignments for mom. Typical mother though, as soon as I start doing well for myself she wants me out of the house.

Acapella

I should be good at that by now... 'cause this isn't the first time I've forgotten my bloody instruments.

Could a local band lend you theirs?

Instruments are overrated
I'd guess you won't do as quality a show as usual and you'll get the "the band had trouble bringing the proper instruments to stage" message and probably a mood hit due to the

experience.
As for the not being able to travel thing though? Check that you are following your local Popo time, NOT your RL time. Sometimes I get that error trying to book jams becuase it's say 22:00 popo time where I'm at and I use that date and try to set up a jam for 8:00, well that was 14 hours ago so it won't let me, have to change the date to the next day

I think you're right with the time thing, because it hit me right after posting that I'm in Spain... which is several hours ahead of me. Unfortunately, though, I picked the latest time I could for today and it was still invalid. And even if I left first thing tomorrow, I'd never make it to NY and back to Spain before 12:00... so I'll take a bad show over no show.

If you have the money to buy a new guitar/mic April will reimburse you by buying you a book when you get back to NYC if you want to look at it that way... then you can sell the guitar/mic for some extree cash. Consider it an employee bonus.

Ok guys, scoff if you must but I have a rather silly question about popo...
I'm a one-girl act called The Redrum. Modern Rock. I'm thinking I'd like to go the acoustic route so the dominant instruments in the songs I'm working on will be Acoustic Guitar and Lead Vox. My question is this: If and when I "record" these songs, I'd like to have other instrumentation...bass, some light drums, strings, etc etc. Do I need to include those instruments when I'm writing the songs? I'll be playing the guitar and singing live, so...
Cheers.

holydogg TDG just got up to two stars recently and we can't fit any more gear in our Dented Tour Bus. I think like anything that works on stars, you get a barely noticeable effect on 1 star, a bit more with two, a decent amount with 3, a good bit with 4 and a lot with 5. You have to have at least a 'Noisy Old Lorry' to get about 2 though it would seem and 4/5 needs a rig.
So basically save to upgrade your bus before buying equipment.
Catchup the 'dominant instruments' are just that, the main focus of the song, you could add anything you want when recording. The people playing with you just need to have 5 stars in ModRock to pull it off, so you wouldn't get much out of the TDG or Never Dies guys guesting on your records since we all only know punk
Speaking of recording, TDG are hitting the studio here in London later today for our follow-up single!

Almost done with my mothers wish list, and found another new user working on starting a heavy metal band. I'm having fun so far, but to be honest, I was expecting a faster pace. Don't get me wrong, I like the pace just fine becuase I know it won't kill me to be at work and my charachter will be fine
I'm probably going to try and go for bass and composition, so that I can write good songs and skip vocals for now

Awesome, thanks for the response Minty. *Goes back to his lair to work on his tunes*

This game is more of a marathon than a sprint. It takes a long time to make yourself a star but you'll feel like you've earned it once you've gotten there. Every little bit of progress you make feels like a victory. That's the way it's been for us (TDG) so far.

Noob question, but can you go back on the first songs you did and improve them once you have better skills? Or is that why some bands have so many discarded songs?
Right now I've just been trying to get out enough songs with my bandmate so that we can start jamming them, but if you can't improve them later on then once I have a healthy amount I assume it would be best to focus on skill improvement.

You cannot go back on the song... One of the things that sucks in the game

You can't improve your songs after you've finished them

question in the same line: when composing, if I keep the focus on, let's say lyrics, even if it 100%, does it can get better or it is wasted time?
As I have seen so far, It's better to wait seeds before composing. Any tricks to get them more often?

I think you're losing your time... The goal is that: You do one song per 3 days and you try to download music and to go take some flowers in your priorities... This way you'll make good songs.

Urgh! "I had a chat with Jonathan Chisnall and we talked about things I've done recently. It made me feel somewhat uneasy afterwards." What's that all about?! I haven't done anything wrong?!

is it better to download songs for inspirations? or to go to shows? And for that matter, how do I decide what type of shows my charachter goes to. IE, if I want him to watch metal shows, do I park him at a club that plays that music and set him to party, and there we go? (sorry, this may be in there help, but I just wanted to clarify)

Dang, the main reason I asked is because I'm too proud of some song titles to let them fade away in abysmal obscurity. But I guess it doesn't say anywhere that I can't simply use the same title and pretend that it wasn't before
Mark my words, "Lucky Charms (Blue Diamond Phillips)" will be an underground hit!

There are two levels to most performance skills, a 'basic' and then a specific skill you need three stars at least in the basic skil to specialize. For example to play bass guitar you noeed basic string instruments to 3 stars before you can then read or learn 'play bass guitar'. I believe that 'basic keyboard instruments' is your base skill and you need 'play piano' as your specific skill if you want to play a piano, but if are just playing a 'keyboard' on stage I don't know if you need to know the specific 'play piano' skill as you wouldn't be playing an actual piano on stage correct? You might want to ask someone from a big band that plays keys
Writing and Seeds You cannot improve songs after they have been completed. You could however remove the original song from your repertoire and use the title (and iv VIP) lyrics for a new composition of better quality. That is what TDG did with Tear It Tonight! which is revised lyrics of the song Tear It! we don't play anymore because it was one of first noob songs and the quality was super low.
When partying, there are no options, just like with shopping... just roleplay that you saw some epic Metal show if you wanted to see a metal show
I've always had my best and close to only success getting seeds from downloading, but keep in mind if you get caught it's a hit to your mood. You won't be wanted or anything but your mood
will suffer.
Seeds should be applied to songs asap because they weaken and eventually disappear if you don't use them!
You should have as high a mood as possible when beginning a song as it affects the potential outcome. You should also start them in the park or at your apartment. I still think songs turn out better when at your appartment for updates of songs but I guess there is some deabate about that now.
More on that check out that updates article in the KB
