kuulapaa, that was a nice idea grabbing Sturm. I always forget about him when I'm searching for players to trade for. He's done well for me in the past when I've played games as the Bruins. I don't know why I never trade for him when I'm playing other teams though.

My PP has been rotten too. It wasn't bad at first but I'm seeing a lot of 0-7, 1-10, 2-8 nights. What the heck is up with that? My PP tactics usually work much better than that. And it's not like I don't have the talent to pull it off. My PP guys are solid. Some of them are guys I always want when I've played other teams (I've gotten Seabrook a couple times but others I haven't). My PP is about as bad as my shootouts. Nothing is as bad as my goaltending though!

I never have a problem with him. I've got a few other guys that seriously take some nights off though!

Heh, it's still early, but Lalime's put up back to back 10's. Also, I consider myself pretty lucky, I nabbed Bernier for a 3rd rounder. It was their offer too. Wierd, just got to get them on the right day I suppose.

Lucky Wilma.

Nah, Seabrook is widdling me off because he is not doing as much as I thought he would. He is still a decent 3rd pair d-man but I thought he would be better as a 3-4. Right now..no way.

I have Seabrook on the second pair spending time with Morrisonn hoping he can rub off on him, while Nieds is doing the same with Keith. my board is a bunch of idiots, they recently stated that the financial status is extremely secure. However, we keep losing money. We would be losing more money with the salaries at the start of the game though and the fact that we are winning doesn't hurt. Right now I'm riding Boucher for a bit. So far he has won the last 2 games. I can't complain as long as the boys are winning and they are getting their minutes. Also I think I know what the answer is but I just want to get everything clarified. If Player A is in your core group for the season When does he become able to not be resigned/trade bait. Would you have to declare the core with him not in it, would it be when he makes his games/minutes for the season, or the end of the season?

Yes, Wirtz is an idiot :D Everyone knows that :D

I'm gonna start my challenge game over the weekend. So monday night there should be my core roster, one or two blog articles, and certainly my first 20 games stats, and maybe the 21-40 record too, but i doubt. Keep ya tuned!

I'm doing OK so far, top of the conference and my line of Vanek-Marleau-Jagr ripping up the league. Boucher is awful though, he is costing me games. I have lost Ruutu for 3 months but should be able to cope, but the main reason I am posting is that Darcy Tucker is plain terrible. Average rating of 5.97 and 5 points! What the hell? I love Tucker in real life (yes, yes, I'm a Leafs fan ) but he has got to go. Hopefully the Ducks accept my offer for Samuel Pahlsson as his replacement...

I've actually got Seabrook playing in my top defensive pair along side Hannan. I've tried to keep my defensive pairings with one younger player and one vet. So I've got Hannan and Seabrook together, Keith with Aucoin, and Morrisonn with Clymer.

Boucher is doing terrible for me. I've used him in games I've played in the past and he wasn't this bad! Lalime is actually doing pretty well though. He's got an average rating of 8.00 and a SV% of .903 with a 5-1-1 record so far. His GAA isn't that great but who cares if he's winning? Boucher is another story all together.

Yep, Boucher blows. :thdn: As for me, well i have claimed the legendary Chris Chelios from waivers and he is now playing for my AHL team. :-p I have also just traded the underperforming Tucker to the Ducks for Pahlsson, I have yet to see how that one will work out but I am sure Pahlsson will get an average rating of 6 or over, so at least it will be an improvement. Plus, his salary is less than Tucker's.

Tucker? You traded for Darcy Tucker? I really didn't like him when I had him on my Maple Laughs challenge team. I ended up trading him too. I'm curious to hear how Pahlsson does. I've never used him in EHM. If he's anything like he is in real life, he'd be great for your PK and checking line.

So I lost Seabrook for two games. He got tossed in the 3rd period of a 4-2 loss to the Flyers for clipping. I'm going with only 5 defensemen for those two games. My farm team has some injuries, so they really can't afford to send somebody up. Plus, out of their healthy defensemen, none of them would help me at the moment except Kukkonen. Unfortunately, he's now eligible for waivers, so he's staying down there for now. So far so good though. In my first game with just 5 defensemen, I won 4-2 versus the Red Wings.

I used Pahlsson in my Sweden team (i won world champ.) before and he is good checking opponents, don't expect points, high ratings, he is a PK guy. By the way i'm trying to make my PK unit to have odd man rushes but everything i do doesn't work. anybody?

If Player A is in your core group for the season When does he become able to not be resigned/trade bait. Would you have to declare the core with him not in it, would it be when he makes his games/minutes for the season, or the end of the season?
Player A must be in your core at all times. He must stay with the team for the entire season. So you can trade him between the end of season 1 and Jul 15, or then again beginning Sep 15 of year 2 (07-08)

This is the intent of the rules. Core players stay on your roster. IF they did not ... they would not be core players.

To clarify the question above have added the following to roster rules:
Once core and homegrown roster players are declared, they are part of your team for the entire season. They may not be traded during the season in which they are listed as core or homegrown. A homegrown player becomes part of your core in his sophomore season, so in essence may not be dealt for 2 seasons. These players can be moved to your farm team on waivers or without waivers. However, beware if you waive a core player and lose him...no bonus points for you. You will be deemed to have an invalid roster.
This has always been the intent of the rules...but it was not spelled out directly, leaving one to wonder. Trading a core player during a season where they are your core? Makes no sense does it??

Thanks for the question thunderbug.

Thanks, I was wondering about that too...

wondering if I could trade a "core player" after he had fulfilled his quote of games.
I've got the answer now, and the answer is NO.

Thx

No, just noticed you hadn't done it yet, and I thought it would not be fun for you to be schooled because of that reason.

LOL! :-D Yeah, I've done so many of these challenges that I'm so used to not doing screenshots until the end. I'm just glad I'm not the only one to screw up posting stats.

Yep..some people don't get it. I suck at this. My team sucks I suck.

What I want to know is how the heck to score 51 pp goals in 20 games? And how someone gets Pitkannen, Jagr, Marleau, Blake, Vanek, Avery, Campbell,Tucker, Nittymaki et al, when they still have Aucoin, Barker, Bolland, Bertram, Toews and their 1st round pick from 2007 and the rest of the seasons. This is the most amazing work I have ever seen in a challenge Laskey. You are one heck of a GM. I bow my hat to you. Please share the tips. =D>

I am really wanting to learn this. This is amazing.

Thanks. :-D As for tips I don't know. :dunno: I just did what i always do. My main tips are trading with Calgary/Detroit/Philly for their draft picks, they seem to hate them and you can get them quite cheap. In fairness I have got some of the usual suspects and overrated players like Marleau/Niitymaki etc, but as this is my first challenge I need to get used to the rules and also, as I am sure you have seen, how to post stats. Basically I try to have as few players outside of my lineup of 20 guys as possible, I'd rather have 28/29 great players than 40 good ones. Another tip I have is that when trading I often use a lot of my unsigned prospects and also try to add in some of the opposition's as a bonus - some teams have players rights that they have one star interest in and that were drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round. Might as well take a gamble.

Hope that helps Batdad. You are a much more experienced player in the challenges than I am, you should be giving me tips! :-p

Interesting..Thanks for the tips.

So what did you use to trade for all these stars? Cause I can never ever get Jagr after Sep 1, or Campbell, or Marleau. Pitkannen also gets to be hard to get around training camp time. Just wondering..so for the next challenge I can load up too.
