Thunderbug: I'm not 100% sure, but i think that tryout players are not eligible to play for your team during the regular season. (not a challenge rule, but a NHL rule) They can just play exhibition games.

So if i'm right on this one, you just can't make him play, so there's no question regarding the challenge rules :p

For a tryout player to play..he would have to be signed to a contract. So yes, if he was not from your system he would have to be a UFA signing.

I don't think you can dress a try-out player in the NHL. IIRC, they are always ineligible for regular season & playoff games. They only NHL games they can dress for are exhibitions.

I know this would go better in game discussion thread, but since this bug ruined my challenge game against Calgary, I'll post it here.

I have a major bug in my game. I don't still know if it'll come back in future games, but I don't like this situation.

In second period of my game two of my players got normal two minute penalties for roughing and cross-checking. Calgary hit three PP-goals during those penalties. In third period Ethan Moreau got two minutes for slashing in time 42.28. In time 55.23 Langkow hit a PP-goal and Moreau got out from the box. In the whole game we got 16 minutes of penalties and played 22 minutes shorthanded. And still they struck four times on PP!

Here you are some screenshots to prove my sad story:

When does the season "end"?
1. End of the regular season
2. End of the cup finals
3. When your team is eliminated from the playoffs (providing you make it there)
4. A certain date

Hey Hypnotist

The season ends as soon as the regular season ends and you are not qualified for playoff otherwise as soon as you are eliminated from it. I don't remenber when trades starts again but you need to declare your core & HG players before draft.

Lidas-I still have to look at your screenshots..sorry been really really busy.

Hypnotist-Technically the new season begins July 1..UFA times. However, for trading away homegrowns etc...you can do that once the NHL Trade period begins again in June, before the draft...if you are eliminated from the playoffs. But before you make those deals, make sure

1. You are out of playoffs.
2. You have your screenshots for the previous season.

Common sense tends to dictate most things around the trades I believe. No team would make a trade in the playoffs in real life, cause they cannot. Season ends when the NHL playoffs end.

Corinthian--Core and homegrown never need to be declared until training camp. You can do it sooner, but need to do so only before you play 1st reg season game in a season. :-D

Lidas --Looking at your screenshots, 2 of the goals are legit pp goals. 38:05 lets Lapointe out of the box. Vaananen goes in, whether the penalty is before or after the goal. Because of the other one. So goal at 38:27 is legit. The one at 38:53 makes no sense...then there is the one in the third period. Ugh...whas up with that.

I have no answers for you on this one. I have not seen anything like this happen in my games. What are Calgary's pp stats. Are they 4-8? or better than that.

Weird.

Sorry batdad.''
I mixed thing up. This is what i mean: b.by draft day the season prior to declaring your homegrown player as one of your roster players. (For example he must be either on your farm team, or a signed prospect by Draft Day 2007, to be eligible to be your homegrown for the 2008-09 season). THE PLAYER MUST BE SIGNED BY THE PREVIOUS DRAFT DAY to be considered “in your system”.

Just a quick question regarding the draft rules. Since the hawks have no 2nd round draft pick in 2008 does that mean that I must trade for one at one point to stay with the challenge rules?

heh. Just posted question by Hypnotist in the discussion thread. It is a good one..so watch the challenge discussion thread for the answer to be coming soon. Mods are chatting about it. :-D

It was me who had the penalty problem, not Lidas. But anyway, Calgary's pp was 4-8. But I can't figure out the PKT of Weekes, which is 22.01 . I get 22.05 when I count all my SH times - but maybe Weekes like went out for few seconds...

And the bug hasn't come back, it was just that one game.

Catchup has a question....

For my 2nd season core, I can drop from 10 to 7. Do I have to pick a specific number of As Bs and Cs? Or can it be any 7 from the original 10?

Posted: Mon Aug 20, 2007 10:10 pm
by batdad
No...no specific a,b,c just 7 guys from your original 10. But they must play the games that their group listing tells them to play. But you knew that.

Hypnotist needs another clarification.

We can trade for future years draft picks. Can we trade the current years picks for future picks (Ex. an '07 7th rounder for an '08 7th's rounder)?

Reason I ask, I don't think I'm going to use the 07 and I'd like to flip it for an 08.

Yes you can. But not your first or second. Those you have to keep.

I thought we just needed to have 1st & 2nd rounder, not necessarily our own. Not that it really matters because the only pick I've traded away is my 07 4th rounder, but still would like the clarification.

You can trade up for another 1st or 2nd, with your picks but you must have one in each round yes. You are not to use your first or second round picks in other deals for players, and then trade for someone else's pick to fill in.

I just agreed on the signing of Ryan Garlock, who was the second round pick of the Blackhawks in 2004, but his rights were released by former GM. The deal would go through on 11th July 2007.

I just wanted to know if he would count toward my free agents for season 2 or if he is more or less considered as a 'own' free agent, as he was drafted by the team... I guess he would count toward the 2 FA signings (and so i'll cancel the deal) but was wondering...:-k

Good question...anyone have thoughts? I actually considered him as a UFA so did not go after him. But...hmm..I dunno.

I would think he would count as a UFA. The fact that his rights had been released is the key here I think. :dunno:

Yep tis my thought. Rights are not with Chicago at the start of the game...therefore...UFA
