The World Junior Championship Group B begin play today pitting Czech Republic against Finland, France, Kazakhstan, and Russia!
Group A consists of Canada, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Czech Republic vs. Finland
Finland defeat Czech Republic 2-0! First star honours would go to Finnish goaltender Heikki Karjalainen, who posted a 32 save shutout. Second star would go to Finnish winger Tero Juntunen, who scored a goal, and an assist. Third star would go to Czech defenseman Viktor Toma, who played 20:28, was -1, served 4 penalty minutes, and had 4 shots on goal, 6 hits, a shot block, and 2 takeaways.
Kazakhstan vs. Russia

IceDogs goaltender Jesse McCullough and defenseman Roger Cote have been selected to Team Cherry for the CHL Top Prospects Game!
January 4th
The IceDogs return home to play host to the Kitchener Rangers. Jesse McCullough stopped 39 of the 40 shots he faced in the game, and though the score was tied 1-1 going into the third period, two third period Niagara goals gave them the victory!

With the trade deadline fast approaching the IceDogs have swung a deal with the Belleville Bulls, sending Czech defenseman Svatopluk Svagrovsky, winger Cason West, the rights to defenseman Shawn Sicard, and a 3rd Round Draft Pick to the Bulls in exchange for defenseman Raphael McKanna!
Svatopluk Svagrovsky played in 41 games for Niagara this season, putting up 6 (2+4) points, and was -13, with 46 penalty minutes.

Team Cherry defeat Team Davidson 5-4 in a shootout at the CHL Top Prospects Game! First star honours would go to Team Cherry defenseman Jody Jubb (Seattle Thunderbirds), who recorded an assist. Second star would go to Team Davidson defenseman Ernie Vigilante (Saginaw Spirit), who recorded an assist. Third star would go to Team Cherry center Travis Cote (Seattle Thunderbirds), who scored a goal, and two assists.
IceDogs defenseman Roger Cote played 13:33, was +1, and had a hit, and two takeaways for Team Cherry.
IceDogs goaltender Jesse McCullough dressed as the backup to Kamloops Blazers netminder Taylor Theriault for Team Cherry.

The IceDogs play the first game of the Memorial Cup Round Robin, playing the Victoriaville Tigres. Jesse McCullough stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced, and Victoriaville score late in the third to force overtime, and Tigres center Cecil Auvitu emerged as the overtime hero!

The IceDogs begin their American Tour with a stop to play the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL). Kenton Howse will get the start in goal for Niagara. Kenton Howse stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced, and though the Lumberjacks scored first, the IceDogs scored three unanswered goals to claim the victory!

IceDogs training camp opened today with physical fitnesse testing. Showing exceptional fitness were tryout center Marc-Olivier Brouillard, and tryout defenseman Clarke McLaren, while defenseman Derick Lavoie, and tryout winger Yanic Thiessen left something to be desired.
Team Red defeat Team Blue 4-2! Best performance was put in by winger Edan Chenier, with honours also going to winger Leiland Lirette, and center Devin Hill.
Team White defeat Team Green 4-1! Winger Corbie Scott, and center Ted Little were the best players on the ice.
IceDogs winger Lawne Paton will miss 10 days with a mild concussion.
The IceDogs remain at home to open their preseason, playing host to the Val d'Or Foreurs. Kenton Howse will get the start in goal for Niagara. Kenton Howse stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced, and though the Foreurs scored late in the third to force overtime, IceDogs center Devin Hill would emerge as the overtime hero!

The Hockey News released their OHL Season Preview today, and the Niagara IceDogs (Team MVP: G Jesse McCullough, Key New Face: D Derick Lavoie) were ranked 20th out of the 20 OHL Teams!
Favorites to win the J.Ross Robertson Cup this season are the Belleville Bulls, though the Kitchener Rangers should give them a run for their money. The Peterborough Petes, and Sarnia Sting should be strong contenders, while the Niagara IceDogs, and Brampton Battalion are expected to struggle.

The IceDogs announce the signing of winger Anton McIver from the Sun County Panthers (Alliance Pavillion League). McIver was the IceDogs 8th Round Pick (153rd Overall) in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. McIver played last season with the Sun County Panthers (PAV), where in 50 games he put up 20 (14+6) points, and was -9, with 120 penalty minutes.
The IceDogs announce the signing of defenseman Dusty Johnston from the Sudbury Cubs (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League). Johnston was the IceDogs 2nd Round Pick (24th Overall) in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. Johnston played last season with the Sudbury Cubs (NOJHL) where in 48 games he put up 16 (3+13) points, and was -4, with 38 penalty minutes.
The IceDogs announce the signing of winger Larry Carriere from the Fort Frances Lakers (Superior International Junior Hockey League). Carriere was the IceDogs 5th Round Pick (99th Overall) in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. Carriere played last season with Fort Fraces Lakers (SIJHL), where in 57 games he put up 34 (19+15) points, and was +7, with 48 penalty minutes.
The IceDogs announce the signing of center Marc-Olivier Brouillard from the Dryden IceDogs (Superior International Junior Hockey League). Brouillard was the IceDogs 3rd Round Pick (53rd Overall) in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. Brouillard played last season with the Toronto Junior Canadiens Midget (GTHL), where in 50 games he put up 40 (23+17) points, and was +34, with 78 penalty minutes.
The IceDogs announce the signing of goaltender Parker Graham from the Kapuskasing Flyers (Great Northern Midget League). Graham was the IceDogs 7th Round Pick (133rd Overall) in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. Graham played last season with the Kapuskasing Flyers (GNML), where in 50 games, he posted a 15-26-9 record, with a 2.99 GAA, .903 SV%, and 3 shutouts.
The IceDogs announce the signing of winger Gleason Mosher from the Oakville Blades (Ontario Junior A Hockey League). Mosher was the IceDogs 2nd Round Pick (33rd Overall) in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. Mosher played last season with the Oakville Blades (OJAHL), where in 59 games he put up 47 (20+27) points, and was +3, with 38 penalty minutes.
