EHM The Blue Line

Very very strange year with the Canucks:

I swapped my pick with Tampa since I didn't figure on making the play offs, and the game doesnt handle conditions.

Hovered between 7th and 9th right up to mid January. Figured I'd "retool" and trade away the most recent summer signings from Benning.

Leivo for a third
Roussel for a fourth
Brisebois for a 2nd and 3rd
Ferland to Minny for 1st and 7th
Myers joins Brisebois back in Winnipeg, for a 2020 1st, 2021 1st, 2021 2nd and a 2020 6th
Benn went to Arizona for a 1st???
Markstrom wouldn't re-sign for a year so he went with Madden to Carolina for Hurricanes and Maple Leafs firsts.
Brian Boyle (FA signing) to Pittsburgh for a third

Traded prospects for Murphy from Chicago, Kinkaid from Montreal, and got Anisimov and a third from Ottawa.

From waivers I grabbed Aston-Reese, Nick Hjarlmarrson, John Hayden, and Pontus Aberg.

Then we just kept winning? Markstrom dropped 5 of his first 6 with Carolina.

We finished 1st in the West, despite gutting the team. Petterson started playing 1.5ppg moving to LW.

First round we go down 3-0, though I wasn't surprised, this team really didn't deserve to be in the play offs anyway. Of course they claw back and win 4 straight.

Comfortably move past Calgary in the second round in 5 games, only to come up to St. Louis, defending champs and 2nd in the West for the conference final match up.

Overtime twice in the first three games, St. Louis was up 3-0 all one goal games. Then Boeser started scoring, and again, the Canucks came back down 3 to win a series.

So a Canucks/Maple Leafs final, obviously we want to win to bump down their draft position since we hold their first round pick.


Game 1: OT Loss, Matthews came up big scoring 47 seconds in. Game 2: Canucks looked dominate, Aston-Reese was my player of the game. Canucks dropped game 3 and game 4 moving the series to 3-1.

Little things Loui steps up plays great in game 5 securing the win, while Miller and Boeser play their hearts out to force a game 7. I am utterly exhausted from the season and not even sure I want to see how game 7 goes.

^^ It's all the small surprises that make EHM so much fun. I played with the Canucks the last game before starting my story career. Injuries took a third of my core as usual. But lo and behold, Loui Eriksson became my go-to guy. He'd play any position. He even managed 7 avg.rating when I played him as a D for 15 games!

Pettersson as #1C and Horvat as #2 it didn't seem to matter what wingers they had, they just took over and scored as much as was needed at any given time. And next year along came Lafreniere After that the best season saw Pettersson hit 120 points and Horvat had 93. One season Quinn Hughes had 67 assists when Lafreniere and Pettersson were really on it. The Canucks are fun to play now with the latest roster update. I can see dynasty potential for you too with all those first round picks lined up. It's a deep draft...

Further to my post on page 62, I have just won the 2020 Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils - back-to-back wins after winning in 2019.

I finished 2nd in the East with 51 wins, behind Tampa. In the play-offs I beat Montreal in five games, Philly in seven, Tampa in seven and then Vancouver in seven in the Final. Torey Krug lead us with 10 play off goals. My American league team in Binghamton, which I also manage, finished 3rd overall in AHL points percentage and made it to the Calder Cup Final but were swept by Chicago. Still, progress for a team which has missed the play offs for the last two years and shows some of the results of my drafting over 2017 - 2019.

My cup winning team was Taylor Hall-Nico Hischier-Kyle Palmieri; Marcus Johansson-Tyler Seguin-Jesper Bratt; Pavel Zacha-Travis Zajac-Nick Shore; Kerby Rychel-Adam Glendening-Michael Mersch up front and Jacob Chychrun-Torey Krug; Andy Greene-Damon Severson; Slater Koekkoek-Jan Rutta and Will Butcher on D with Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid in goals.

I picked up Seguin as a free agent in November for $4m for the season. He had a point-a-game in the regular season and just under that in the play-offs. I am currently sitting on about $22m cap space for next season but I have Hall, Hischier, Bratt and Butcher to re-sign. I cannot afford both Hall and Seguin. I am in early June 2020 just now and have made no progress all season signing Hall to an extension. He is not telling me what he will take, whereas Seguin is, so if I cannot get Hall tied up in the next week I will sign Seguin instead and Hall will have to walk as a free agent. Too bad, because Hall scored 49 goals in the regular season but I have offered what I can and I cannot risk losing both of them for nothing.

I traded Adam Henrique during the season to Vancouver for their 1st and 2nd round picks, because I needed the cap space to deal with all of these expiring contracts. I have three first round picks in the 2020 draft but two of those (mine and Vancouver) will be 30th and 31st because we met in the Final. I also have Anaheim's which will be top-10. The 2020 draft doesn't look that deep, so I think I will be trying to package 30 and 31 to move up a bit.

After finishing a dynasty with the Carolina Hurricanes using the 2006-70 db, winning 4 straight Stanley Cups from the 2012-13 season to the 2015-16 season, i decided to take a break from that, and take on the job of rebuilding the 2019-20 LA Kings.

I just finished the 2020-21 season and am going into the draft, hoping for another good pick as i finished third last, but we're showing signs of improvement. I had two firsts last year that i used to draft Jamie Drysdale at 4th overall and the second pick that i was traded by Carolina, I picked Yaroslav Askarov at 12th. Also in the offseason i picked up Taylor Hall from free agency for 7 years at 8.7m. He put up a pretty good 68 points, looking forward to seeing what he can do. About halfway through the season i was offered an interesting trade from Carolina. Andrei Svechnikov and a 5th, for Anze Kopitar. I aid yes with little hesitation, and Svech put up 63 points this season, 33 of those, he scored during his 30 games with the Kings so far. I currently have him on the first line with Hall and Iafallo.

Prospects wise, I have Askarov playing in the AHL, excited to see what he can do in the NHL. He finished his season in Ontario with a .917. Also from that draft, Samuel Desgrosellils and Arthur Kaliyev seem to be developing well, so i signed them to entry level deals and I'll give them a shot in the AHL next season.

Update: Got 1st overall. Carolina's pick ended up being 19th

I'm playing EHM 07 but I wanted to share what just happened...

I'm doing a 'unemployed start to NHL' challenge, my favourite way to play!

I got the job at Slough Jets in the English Premier League (the lowest ranked league with 3 reputation) as a 'rec player' for my starting reputation.

First season is 2006/07, and I was expected to just improve the roster, I finished 9th of 12 and just made the play-offs, board where very happy and even gave me more wage budget for the next season, €170k!

Second season 2007/08 I left in the off-season and joined AaB Ishockey of the Danish Elite League (ranked 7 reputation so much better quality). I had a very good team and a €500k wage budget to play with! And now it gets quite weird.

Slough signed Bobby Carpenter as their GM to replace me, US Nationality and very good! He then got the job of Team USA for the Deutschland cup. Arizona Coyotes fire their GM... and sign Bobby Carpenter! From the worst ranked league to the best ranked league (I think he signed with Slough as there were no other jobs available and I left later off-season). So I wasn't clicking with AaB, although 21 games into season 2 I was 12 wins and 8 loses and doing well, so I applied for the Slough Job, and they accepted me back!

The GM to take over my only made one change which was the Goalie I signed he let go so its still 'my team' I'd built before I left. Now I want to win this league but I jump ship chasing a better league reputation!

hey everyone..been off EHM1 for two years and got on twitter some news the other day from TBL about new updated DB so I put FM aside and decide to start some nice save of EHM. Saw lots of new leagues added (a bit confused in USA and Canada`s leagues as there are some new ones but won`t take me long to get to know them).
Any of you lately had any good run in Canadian or USA uni teams? Any other team to recommend maybe?

I started playing again when the initial covid lockdown happened, also after about 2-3 years of not playing. I began a game with the Petes in the OHL and I'm enjoying it, much simpler than GM-ing an NHL team since there's no salary cap and essentially no contract negotiations. It's also fun being able to play out a players entire career in a few years.

The Petes are a pretty good team to start though, so there may be some other teams in the OHL/CHL which would be a bit more of a challenge (this was with the rosters from 19/20, so perhaps a few of their good players have aged out of the OHL with the updated rosters). I'm also considering a new save with the Kingston Frontenacs, they drafted Shane Wright last seasson as an exceptional status player so could be fun to play out his OHL career.

Well i started in Uni. of Saskatchewan in Canadian U Sports...as well fun as you try and sign those Canadian and American youngsters that either were dropin Major Juniors or finished there and couldn`t find a contract in NHL/AHL/ECHL or Europe. Have some great players and hopefully when they finished in my uni team they will manage to get a nice pro contract. Like to follow them then after few seasons and see where they end up.

And i couldn`t help myself not to have few enforcers and have few brawls... Always try to break the record of most PIMs in the league

Ha! That reminds me of an old EHM 2005 or 2007 fantasy DB I created many years ago where I put all of the NHL enforcers on a single team and encouraged them to fight! PIMs got a little out of hand in that game! Shame I don't have the DB anymore...

Actually tried to play that Canadian league that was known for enforcers and like 4 fights per game ...I think its not in the game anymore (can not remember the league name - probably folded). Played it back in 2007 I belive and back then a job of enforcer was still a normal job in hockey! Those were the times in EHM

edit: oh LNAH i ment...but can not find it...was it maybe in one of previous editions? Or i played ECHL and made goon team..

I was thinking of starting a new game after my current Petes season (2025-26), but then Dubas was fired by the Leafs and I couldn't resist applying for the job! I can definitely see why he was fired, among a number of poor decisions somehow Auston Matthews ended up on the Senators - should have been fired just for that!

I decided to make it my challenge to win the cup without losing any of the current Leafs that are still on the roster, which is only Tavares, Marner and Rielly (and also former Peterborough Pete Semyon Der-Arguchinstev lol). As a result I had to sign Tavares to a somewhat ridiculous 3 year contract extension at age 35, but just makes it more of a challenge. We'll see if I can win the cup before he retires

Started a new save with LA Kings before the RL season starts and looking for few enforcers if someone can recommend me some I do have Imama and he is doing so far nice job in 4th line...
Any suggestion who to check or pick up in trades or free transfers? Don`t have to be in NHL..

As few posts up there I already wrote i was a bit out of the game and mostly managed teams in Europe ...well NHL is completly other level and way of the game.

I'm in 2246.

And it looks like I will create a new save finally after ~5 years...

Woww 2246 is unreal, not sure I've made it 10+ years in a save before starting a new game! I started a new game as the Arizona Coyotes and have played two seasons. My team has been fairly ordinary, missed the playoffs in year 1 by a couple points and then lost in the 1st round in year 2.

However, Tampa Bay won the stanley cup in both years so they've won it 4 seasons in a row (2020 & 2021 in real life and 2022 and 2023 in my save)! A modern dynasty!! Even crazier IMO is San Jose finished 31st in the leage in 2022 and won the lottery so they drafted Shane Wright. Then they finished 18th overall in 2023, but won the lottery again! So they have Wright and Connor Bedard!

I don't post often but EHM is basically the only game I play and this site has been an incredible help over the past 15 years of on and off again playing! A huge thanks to all the contributors over the years!

Now I'm starting a fresh save with the Capitals, while I've also watched a game of NHL and European hockey from time to time on the telly. So slowly getting back to it.
