Not sure what Waddell is up to in Atlanta - overpaying (in my opinion) for Tkachuk, and Coburn for Zhitnik?? The Flyers must be laughing about that one.

I am glad to see catchup now has one foot in his mouth! Half way to victory!!! WAHOO>>>> BURKEY GET GUERIN GET GUERIN!!!!!

Waddell is insane. Absolutely insane. That is way way too much to pay for those guys. But the Thrash have a great team for now.

What the... There's a conditional 2008 1st round pick going to St. Louis if Tkachuk re-signs with Atlana. Ridiculous deal.

According to my EHM config file, the Thrashers have traded their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks from this years draft, and (if Tkachuk re-signs in Atlanta) their 1st, 2nd and 4th rounders from the 2008 draft! They might aswell not show up in Columbus this year!!!

It makes me wonder if the Wad was making his own outlandish offer, or if that's a sign of the asking prices and competitive offers. GM's such as Burke have been talking about the amount that gets asked for rentals, and some places like Atlanta who need to push for it all will pay these prices.

I think this is what GMs have been talking about that the prices being asked are insane. The one that really takes the Tkatchuk deal OTT to me is the additional first round pick if they sign Tkatchuk :-o That makes it an even worse deal for Atlanta no matter how it turns out; they either overpay for a rental or they ovepay even more to keep him and at least have something in return. Ouch. They are clearly in a major freefall right now and as a team that's in one of those "4 points from being a #3 seed, 2 points from being out of the playoffs" situations they were in enough of a panic to pay the piper, or the Bluesman in this case I guess ;)

It was rumored St. Louis was asking for Corey Perry and a 1st from Anaheim, so yeah prices are insane. I still expect Burke to snag someone else with that 1st rounder he's got.

It's a line of thinking that is going to make certain GM's loosen their wallets. You know that the price is high, but if you don't do it then someone else will. While first rounders can be a big deal, anything past that can and has been a rubbish shoot really. Whether this comes back to bite the Wad in his ass, time will tell.

Burke's a smart (And colourful!) man, he knows that he can find the right pieces for picks and non-roster prospects.

Frickin Hell. Another 1st moves. Gorges and 1st to Mon for Rivet and 5th

Stay out of this market Nonis. It is nuts!

And I Guess this all means the Habs are selling. Sorry CatchUp. But nice trade for you guys and the Habs future!

I guess my prediction is shot with Tkachuk landing in ATL and NYI looking like buyers instead of sellers.

I'll try one more: Craig Rivet to San Jose.

Cheers.
Boo-ya!

I like this move a lot. Gorges is not much of a prospect - probably 6th D-man at best, but the 1st rounder is a nice return for Rivet. Rumour is he was scrapping with Carbs - combine that with his UFA status and he's a goner. He was a steady defensemen for Montreal, never really great but rarely bad either.

Now what does Gainey do? Keep the pick or flip it in another deal? hmmm...very interesting.

Cheers and thanks for posting this batdad!

Wow, guys are really going for a lot. I'm kind of hoping the Wings stay out of this craziness.

I'm not :D. I was hoping they'd pull Tkachuk in considering they really need a hitter. I'm intrigued (sp?) now to see what they do.

It is a great move for the Habs. And 1/2 point for CatchUp in our own little battle. Not a full point, cause well who would know Doug Wilson is smoking the same stuff as Don Waddell? Man that is a high price to pay, even if the draft sucks!

Better than renting Todd Simpson last year, or getting Janne Niinimaa this autumn..
Unfortunately, this first rounder will surely be in the big team in.. five years or so

But what you're forgetting is this...

Even though Niinimaa is junk...getting rid of Riberio is worth 1000 Niinimaa's with broken left knees. =D>

Cheers.

Rivet is solid. Not superb, but solid. As mentionned, he rarely has a bad game. And he is experienced and should bring his calm and experience to others in the team. This would strengthen a bit the Sharks, who are already a solid team this season, and so their first round will be late in the round.

As a result, the Habs would better use this 1st round pick in an other trade to bring something strong that would help them to secure a spot in the playoffs. They wouldn' have a top-prospect with this pick, while going to the playoffs may help them to re-sign some UFAs or attract UFAs this summer...

Only my opinion though...:dunno:

EDIT: 4th TBLer to reach the 1000 post mark! :joy:

Sources tell TSN the Florida Panthers have agreed to a trade involving Gary Roberts and have asked him to waive his no trade clause. But sources say the deal is not with Toronto or Ottawa, the only two teams Roberts has said he will go to. So at this point, the ball is in Roberts' court, but there is no guarantee he will waive the clause.

I'm thinking Anaheim for that TB 1st rounder plus some prospect.

Also, Bryan Berard is on waivers.

Eklund's saying Brian Boucher, Bryan Berard, Michael Leighton, Denis Hamel, Jason Krog, Mikko (?) Kapanen, Marc Chouinard, Aaron Downey and Petr Cajanek have all been waived.

I was reading something on Spector's page saying the Roberts deal was probably with the Penguins.

God I hope the Canucks have waived Chouinard...and then I hope Bulis too!!!

Roberts is rumoured to be thinking about waiving no-trade for a deal with Pittsburgh ...cannot recall where I saw that though. But we will see!

TSN confirmed it, though it is Niko not Mikko Kapanen

PS: They say that the Jackets have made notice of Berard's availability, I can't see anything showing that he's been put on waivers.

WAhoo! Canucks waive Chouinard..that is 1.1 million right there baby! Nonis must be close to something very very interesting. Wonder who, or maybe more than 1 guy?

IT IS ON TSN SITE! WOW! I am surprised Nonis did this as it could be seen that he is admitting to a huge mistake with Marc....and with a new owner and all. Not necessarily smart! But great. Team 1040 has not said anything on air yet, but they have Rome on now.

I wonder if Montreal has another deal in the work? According to USA Today's website, they've waived Kovalev. Could it be a mistake or are they trying to shed his salary?

No me thinks that is an error. Would not worry. Several sites are saying it is a mistake.

Yeah, I just read one saying that Kovalev was supposed to be coming off the IR and somebody else would probably be waived. Most likely a mis-print.
