Good news! I’ve completed the review of all of the draftable players (down to age 3), and the % that need to be recreated is far less in the minor hockey leagues than it is in Major Junior - 54 Major Junior players have been recreated, which is more than half of all the players I need to recreate! If I don’t finish this task today I will in the next couple days !

Next weekend I’m going to take a look at Player Attributes.
To the four people who have the excel spreadsheet of Attributes for review/feedback…….IF you are able to send me any feedback by next weekend, great! If not that’s OK (don’t worry about it then)

Regards :-)

DOB problem (might have been fixed)

Andre Hinse is born on april 19 1997 in game, and is a 17 (turns 18) years old player during the game. Don't ask me how this is possible.

Hinse is indeed born on April 19, but IRL, he was born in 1945, which made him a 29 (turning 30) years old player in game.

His in-game DOB should be april 19 1977.

Andre Hinse also won the Rocket Richard award my 7th test season of 1974-75. Regardless of whether he was 9 or 18 by the end of the year, that certainly makes him the youngest Richard award winner.

Incorrect DOB for Hinse has been fixed

EDIT
MXD wrote:Andre Hinse is born on april 19 1997 in game, and is a 17 (turns 18) years old player during the game. Don't ask me how this is possible.
I suspect the game, when forced to deal with a 9 year old playing for an NHL team (the Aeros) at start-up, automatically upped his age to the minimum required

I'm curious about why you chose 1974 to do this. It's a lot of work. Is this your favorite era of hockey?

Good work

I was born in 1967, so the late 70s are my favourite era for sure...

ALSO...EHM requires a 30 team NHL, and I didn't want "fake teams" - between 1974 and 1976 IRL there were 30 "professional" teams if you added the NHL and WHA together.

Initially I started with a 1976 database (back in 2010), and changed to a 1974 database over a year ago IIRC.....I moved from 1974 to 1976 primarily as in 1974 superstar Bobby Orr was still on Boston and still capable of playing (knee problems), and Bernie Parent of the Flyers (my all time favourite goalie) was still on top of his game (he never really recovered from an injury riddled 1975-76 season, and then retired in 1979 after getting a stick in the eye)......ultimately I liked the mix of top/up-and-coming teams in 1974 beter than the 1976 mix...

My only complaint about the time period is the lack of the Cincinnati Stingers, which, if I had to pick one, are probably my favourite non-NHL WHA team. :P

Have started into season 2.

A few observations from the off-season:

Twice as many Russians were drafted as Americans, with nearly a dozen in the first round alone. A goodly number of these were modern players.

Not much free agent activity in the off-season, a fair number of European-based modern North American players getting picked up by NHL teams (probably this will change as more minor leaguers are added to the database?). The most significant FA signings were Buffalo signing Bengt-Ake Gustafsson and the Canucks signing Ivan Hlinka (!)

First HoF inductees took place, Gordie Howe, Henri Richard, Jacques Plante.

Interestingly, not one of the historical Russians who were drafted in the first round signed with the team that drafted them; but, about a dozen of the modern Russians signed with the drafting team, including 6th and 7th rounders.

Doug Wickenheiser was drafted in the 2007 draft! (And signed)

Anton Stastny was also drafted (and signed). His birth year is 1959 IRL so he's too young yet.

Positive surprise for me, compared to regular EHM and even the 1979 db, was the lack of changes made to most teams during the off-season. In the "Season Preview" only 11 of the 30 teams had a "Key New Face", and 10 of those 11 were teams in the bottom 16 of the list. It actually made sense! No changes for the sake of changes!

A bit of an oddity was seeing notes on scoring milestones, like Marcel Dionne's 100th point, for example, when in his history page there's rather more than 100 points already present...

I'm thinking/hoping when I use Arch's tool to transfer History stats to the Player Info tab this will be fixed

I increased both the Patience Attribute and the Loyalty Attribute of management (I think Loyalty likely only applies to Players, but increasing Patience hopefully helps reduce the changes for the sake of change)

RE Europeans/Russians in the Draft/NHL in the early years - I have a number of ideas on this front to be implemented, and other factors in version 0.1 that will be fixed (like a lack of draftees because some are signing to early).......it'll be interesting to see how it goes in version 0.2
XenHL wrote:Interestingly, not one of the historical Russians who were drafted in the first round signed with the team that drafted them; but, about a dozen of the modern Russians signed with the drafting team, including 6th and 7th rounders.
Probably because I've edited the historical players (first round draft choices) by adjusting Adaptability/Loyalty/Favourite Team/etc [and they don't have an NHL Release Clause in their contract].....I've edited some (but not all) of the modern players in similar fashion

XenHL wrote:My only complaint about the time period is the lack of the Cincinnati Stingers
I can understand that! ....you can easily edit Cincinnati into your own version (and who knows? maybe when I get to reviewing teams further they'll replace one of the current NHL teams!)

User bobmcgoo is working on an NHL Scoring Realism Patch, and when he tried editing Referees he has seen that after the first season in-game most NHL Referees are replaced by "created" Referees that weren't even in the database at start-up!

The 1974 db starts with 100% of the NHL Referees being "historical" (and I edited their Attributes too!) - has anyone noticed this changeover of referees in their testing? Looks like my efforts may not have the results I'd expected...

No it's fine, just checked this and the game only retires all referees above a certain age. If you make referees young enough they'll stay in the game, although I don't know how young that is...

Noticed on some player histories - Roanoke Valley Rebels in WHA?

Lee Inglis should have Dutch as his second nationality, with that checked as declared - he played with the Dutch national team 70-71 and 72-73.

This is a "known issue" to me that I'll fix at some point.....I used one of the first versions of the History Editor, and when I selected "blank" for a team the "Roanoke Valley Rebels" were substituted in instead (I selected blank because a few WHA team names were not in the database, such as the Philadelphia Blazers.....I have checklists I used with notes so I know which players are affected, and which teams need to be added, and at some point I'll do so)

Done! I made his 2nd Nationality "Netherlands" and checked declared

Second Season

Bruins beat Hawks in 7 to win Cup
Lemaire, Mahovlich, Lafleur all have 130ish points to lead league.
Vachon, Esposito, Dryden(injured, plays 47 games), Parent best goalies
J.C Tremblay won the Norris, had around 75 points
No big surprises outside of Lund scoring 80 points(88 last season)

Since test release 0.1 ten days ago I’ve spent almost all of my editing time recreating many historical young players from North America because they were being signed by NHL clubs while they were still draft eligible - this issue is now fixed!

I’m now looking at the historical European/Russian players, and I’m just staring to recreate those that need to be because they too can be signed by an NHL club when they’re still draft eligible..........and I’m manually adjusting the Adaptability/Loyalty Attributes of European/Russian players………..and I’m looking for Attribute editing and the adding of Transfer Agreements to help keep the “veteran” historical European/Russian players in their home countries (user Malmsten83 posted some test results in the main 1974 db thread indicating the Transfer Agreement may help!)

And when my brain hurts to much to edit, but I still want to work on the project, I’ve been making Invalid Staff into Retired Staff!

Some good news for Euros. The players I draft from Russian(late round D) when signed at least follow the transfer agreement and don't join right away. Which guys like Kharlamov and Tretiak did. And Marian/Peter Stastny have moved to new teams from Slovan(Helsinki and Mannheim) but can't sign in the NHL yet due to their contract. Anton came across though.

Surprisingly I'm 22-2-1 atm. Top 6 and goalies have been great.

Regarding the Seattle Coliseum: in the game the capacity is set at 11,000, but I've read that there were crowds rather larger than that - like in 1974 when the Soviet national team played the Totems, there were 12,700.

A little update from my end - just the Capitals and Jets left to go through and I'll have gathered all the photos, then it'll just be a matter of converting them to the game's format!

I've changed the capacity to 12,700 for the Seattle Coliseum......I think I'll likely look at NHL Arenas at some point too (the Calgary Corral has a capacity of 8,729.......I'm not sure if a capacity that low will really work in the NHL in EHM; I was looking to try to use the Extra_Config file to put in Arena changes)

Won't a low value in adaptability make the players play worse once they finally do come over?
That might be something we just have to live with, I guess
