First season with NYR (lidas 1.0):

In: Jason Spezza, 25 years old, 7$ million (7 years)
Out: Chris Drury, 32 years old, 7$ million (4 years) + rights to Derek Stepan who is at the year 2018 playing for Nottingham, UK and has played 6 games for Sens.

Drury wasnt bad for Sens, but has quit now in 2018 whilst Spezza is still active (35 years old) and has made 1342 points in 944 games for me.

Another trade i liked was in 2009, same save.

In: Alexander Edler + 2nd draft pick 2009 from Vanocouver
Out: Wade Redden

Edler has gone on to win 4 norris Trophies since and been a keystone in my defence for the last 9 years whilst Redden continued to deliver at a good rate but not worth the 6.5$ million.

But my best trade ever must be in 2007... god, such a steal...
In: Philadelphia 1st draft pick 2009 - #1 overall - Alex Volkov - Calder Memorial Trophy - 836 points in 642 games - playing in first line together with fellow superstar Ajay Eastman (#1 overall 2010)

Out: Rights to Tim Bränholm, playing in Mora, Sweden - never played an NHL game, 3rd round pick (2008), 4th round pick (2009

Ah, the good old taking advantage of bad AI trades. I love trades of plunkheads for injured guys and 1st rounders for 90 year olds. So clearly the hardest way to play the game. I say this over and over, yet people still come along and post:

WOW! I got Patrick Marleau for Pascale Rheaume, Scott Clemmensen, four members of an ECHL team, and a bucket of pucks.

Well...when I see those trades I know the dude is injured for a month, or more (IE GOmez above)....or is 220 years old (leclair above)

Really...who cares if you make a trade like that in EHM. Anyone can.

This thread is really for real deals that work well...

IE Edler and 2nd for Wade Redden. That is a trade. Prospect and pick for a star in the game (or at least considered one). And then the Prospect turns into a star. Awesome.

My best deal ever was still getting Dion Phaneuf for a draft pick. But it was after the draft when other teams immediately overrate one or two of your guys. They came after this one I had. I asked for Dion and they gave him to me. Of course, they would have given me Gretzky in his prime.

I once saw Dion Phaneuf traded for Noah Welch

also, that SJ trade, I had just signed LeClair on for another year, and they had just signed Renberg who also retired a few days after

Yup, this is the way I always trade. I look at their needs and try to make a good deal for both of us. Sometimes it gets bit ridiculous, and desperate, and in the last moment I realize this would probably never happen so I just cancel it. But for example, in my game Colorado acquired Biron from Philadelphia, and one of my priorities was to acquire a solid backup. Raycroft became availible, and they were interested in one of my depth guys - Steve Kelly, so I traded Kelly + right for a 18years goalie (pretty weak) for Raycroft. Fair enough. Or another, I wanted Axelsson for my checking line, and surprisingly Boston offered a good deal. Axelsson + Hnidy for Hejda.

They might not be awesome trades, but I am happy with them :-D. They are small, yet useful trades and don't brake up the chemistry.

In my current game I gave up top-2 defender Pat Price for right winger Don Murdoch, because I desperately needed a goalscorer for Wayne Gretzky's wing. It seemed like a bad trade for both of us. Murdoch scored just 19 goals in 61 games in his first year with my Oilers and Price soon fell out of favor in New York.
Year 2 after the trade: The Rangers trade Price's ass to Colorado, with whom he just reached the Stanley Cup Finals.
Murdoch rebounded by scoring 36 goals in 60 games.
AND: The Rangers got prospect Alan Haworth in return for Price. The guy rips up the AHL and looks like a great player.

Funny story. I like this game :-D

Yeah, I got Ovechkin for for Ryan Wilson (and maybe a tiny bit extra) back when we were doing the Columbus challenge something like 2 years ago. It just made things too easy, so I don't do those kind of deals anymore.

Yesterday, the Flyers put Mike Richards on the block just 8 games into their season. I was able to acquire him (As the Canucks) for Mikko Jokela, 3rd round pick in 2010, and a 2nd round pick in 2011. He had 9 assists in those 8 games for Philly, but now has 4G+15A in 10 games for Vancouver. Richards was also named the new team captain, replacing the traded Jokela.

With the glut at center, I made a salary dump trading Henrik Sedin to the only takers in the Colorado Avalanche for three minor leaguers. Had to take the bad with the good
;)

To Avs
Martin St. Louis & a 4th liner (who I forget)

To Lightning
2 prospects who barely made AHL, Brett Clark (3rd line D), two 4th round picks and a 5th round pick.

That was 5 years ago, which is why I forget the exact details... I just saw it again today looking through histories... wondering how much I'd paid to get St. Louis!

He wasn't seriously injured at the time, in 5 years he's never been out more than 10 days at once.

At the 2013 Trading Deadline, I was able to pull off a blockbuster:

To ATL: RW Marian Gaborik
To OTT: Rights to D Adam McIvor (1st, 22nd Overall 2012), 2nd round pick (2013), 3rd round pick (2013) and a 6th round pick (2016).

Somehow, I was able to get Gaborik just one day after Ottawa acquired him from Nashville for Dan Hamhuis and the rights to a junior center playing horribly in his first year in the AHL.

Ottawa kept McIvor in juniors before finally signing him to play in Binghamton for the 2014-15 season.

Gaborik meanwhile was third in the running for the Lady Byng, while notching 12 goals and 16 assists in the final 19 games of the regular season. He exploded for 119 points the following year on a line with Kovalchuk and Tavares, winning the Byng, being runner-up for the Art Ross, and third for the 'Rocket' Richard.

Speaking of Tavares, my second-best trade ever...

To STL: 1st round pick (2nd overall) and LA's 3rd rounder
To ATL: 1st overall selection 2009

I of course took Tavares. 169 goals, 266 assists for 435 points in 357 NHL games. Calder Trophy winner in 2010-11. Hart runner-up in 2013-14.

Not that I'm crying for the Blues. They took Steve Anthony. Averaging around a point a game in 3+ NHL seasons and who won the Calder the following season.

I start a game with the Atlanta Thrashers and i make this trade ( i'm proud of it ):

Holik + **** + *** + first rounder 08 for Marleau and Milan Michalek ( and nobody was injured ) this was my best trade ever. And i saw in another game with the Avalanche the worst trade ever....Brian Little for Andy Roach :-k I know that Wadell is one of the worst GM in the NHL but this...this is completly ridiculus :headache:

That first trade...I assume that was before the first season even started philou21? The Marleau deal. Because a known issue with the game is that the AI GM's do not understand that Patrick Marleau is known to be well...of Wayne Gretzky plus Mario Lemieux calibre in this game. Any trade for Marleau made even during season 1 of EHM around here is considered to be well....not gonna say it. But no big deal.

For awhile way back when, Marleau was considered a 4 letter word in our challenge threads. (And virtually everywhere else)

Now please, whatever you do don't say your second best trade was for some Finnish goalie whose name only Tasku knows how to spell. Please...

Batdad i don't know what's your problem but you seem to denigrate a lot of comment. It's a forum ok? People are here to talk about EHM, there stories, what they love to do or why they love this game. If you are here just to say blablabla it's a AI problem, finally you're not so good blablabla. Some guys are new here and they don't know that the game has a AI problem and personnaly if I was that guy I would think..Woah that's hard here. Ijust don't understand why you don't let people explain themself freely. So i don't know if you want to kick me because of this message but i don't give a darn. I think you're complain too much and thats what i think i stop visit this forum. Thx you!

Kaberle + first (12th overall) for 1st overall, which turned out to be Tavares - who is a PPG in his rookie season. Well this probably not too impressive, actually.

Would you consider Toskala (****) + Esposito (first line pot *****) + late 1st for Bouwmeester good?

Hey, Philou21, don't take it too serious! Batdad is not intending to insult anyone. He is just trying to give the people an impression that the AI has its mistakes and that it could be more challenging (and maybe keeps the game more interesting for you) not to take advantage of it.
He is always one of the fastest to make a comment but also to welcome people to the ehm forum.

Post whatever you like to post! I enjoy everyone's thoughts. And good luck with EHM! :-)

Exactly! Plus... trading for Marleau and/or Michalek is no great feat. That's one of the first things everyone seems to do when they first start playing the game. :dunno:

For a while there when EHM 2007 came out, everyone traded for Marleau (and often Michalek) and they also got Niittymaki for a goalie. In the challenges, everyone's team ended up looking pretty much the same. Since then we've tried to take steps to discourage that.

The only thing i want to explain is that new people like me don't know that kind of glitch in EHM. I never knew this before Batdad told me. So i just want to say to be more careful in your comment for the new people. But now, i know that kind of glitch so in my games i will pay attention to it. I already know the glitch of superstar injured so i don't do it. It's just that, nothing else! So now i close this conversation and keep playing EHM

I am careful, and was with you actually. I just did not put smileys in my posts, cause well...too lazy. I cannot be responsible for how other people read my words. People can read it with a funny humorous tone, or a nasty evil one. Actually, it tends to tell you a whole lot about the person depending on how they respond. Maybe I should start putting in smileys all the time.

Also....if people read things around here, they tend to see things. I encourage people to read EVERY word in EVERy thread. I know it is not possible to do all at once, but over time. I know when I joined I did, and the forums were just as busy then.

Anyway, enjoy your time at TBL, if you want to. Only you can make it a good time, and enjoy it.
