Lunk came in in relief of Weekes in the game you were wondering about BTW; that's why he only played 26 minutes 8-)

As for embarrasing I got particular pleasure out of Chelios on the breakaway dropping his stick while trying to shoot what was it last Saturday? Unfortunately he also then scored with the eventual shot because the goalie was so thrown off.

Man, games are really picking up in intensity. Great games this week!! Today's Avs/Ducks game was darn entertaining.

These 5-8 slots are changing almost daily here! In the East now there are three teams with 81 points, Tampa Bay, Montreal and NJ taking up the 6th, 7th and 8th slots after MON & NJ both won today. In the West five points separates 5th from 10th. It's going to be a crazy couple of weeks!

Archi-Channel Five are showing the New York derby tonight-and it is in the better of the two arenas-not the dark and dingy Madison Square Gardens :joy:

Another Canadian scalp for the Wild-first the Oilers and now Vancouver..:joy:
A question-how many black players are there in the NHL? I know that Anson Carter has played pretty well for the Canucks, and Iginla and Weekes have played solidly. Why is the percentage of black american players lower than say in Football and Basketball? Are black youngsters channeled away from hockey? Or is hockey seen as a white middle-class sport?

It's partially a cultural thing - hockey is somewhat seen as a white middle-class sport, though there are quite a few Latin-Americans in the Boston area who are hockey fans. Probably because it's easy to follow with it's similarities to soccer. But it's also somewhat of an economic issue. Hockey is a very expensive sport here. Few schools or clubs provide equipment for the kids so most parents need to buy the skates/pads/etc. out of their own pockets. Basketball only requires a ball since there are many public courts to play on, and with football the schools or pee-wee leagues generally provide the equipment. There is little out-of-pocket expense for the parents.

I would really like to see more diversity in the game. And there has been more and more as the years go by. Lets hope it continues.

I watched the whole of the game San jose-Colorado on tape and thoroughlly enjoyed it. I was definitely behind San Jose so the result (and subsequent ones) were right. As the Wild are now dead for the season I am backing the Sharks in the play-offs.
ESPN's take

Who are you backing, aside from your own teams, in the post-season?

Thrashers still hanging on, Kings still sliding, Preds stop the rot and clinch post-season berth. opinions?

I'm kinda struggling to know what I think. I want the Sharks to get in, yes, but I love the Canadian teams to be in the play-offs. You only have to watch the all-Canadian ties in the regular season to sense the fanaticism and great atmosphere involved. I suppose I can't lose-Canucks or Sharks...

As I've said I'd love to see the Sharks make it in and they have gotten hot at the right time too :joy:

I'm cheering for the Canes, Sharks and Preds :-D as the Hawks were eliminated from contention in around December

I've been very impressed with the Ducks over the past month or so too however; they deserve a lot of credit for the moves they made counting on their younf guys especially as their youth and drive has really fueled the team.

Vokoun is out for the season, he seems rather ill too. Poor Preds, any dreams of a cup for this season are gone.

Vokoun will miss the remaining four regular season games and the playoffs after blood clots were found in his pelvic area and abdomen
Yikes! Man.. I knew he was having back trouble but this is really bad comparatively; I hope it's nothing serious but that sounds horrible. That does give them a tough road ahead as he's the kind of guy who can easily 'steal' games for you. I still believe that Ottawa will be in the same situation though so we'll just have to see :dunno:
