Hem...little question about FA signings... I'm after the 06-07 playoffs, but still in June (ie season 1). The Canadiens were stupid enough to release their rights to Carey Price, so i made an offer that he accepted. I thought he would join on 11th July like many prospect, and so count toward season 2 FA signings. Problem is that he is set to join on 8th June, which is still season 1 according to the rules, even if the season is over since 2nd June and my Cup win.
Fact is that i already signed 2 FAs in season 1 (Dingman and Karpa, who was my backup D-man), and that the move of Price to Chicago would occur in season 1 too. But, of course, he wouldn't play any single game for me in season 1 as the season is over.
So... Is the move illegal? If so, i have a save game where i can still withdraw the offer. Or should i sign him and have him counting as a season 2 FA? (which was my intention when i offered him a contract)
I would be really frustrated to pass on Price just because i signed a backup d-man at the start of the season

But heh, if the rules masters say it's illegal, then it is

Just hope he could be considered as a season 2 FA signing...

You count price as one of your two UFAs for season 2 since your season is over. No issue Shadd.

Nice!!!
I still have no goalie for season 2 yet, but now have Price, Irving and Varlamov as netminder prospects

ok Trying to clarify since that seems completely different from the response I had earlier. Where I got 2 European players to commit to a contract in September but because of the transfer window one wouldn't hit till April and the other til June 7th I believe. From my understanding they would count as my 2 for year one. If thats not the case on one or the other then I may have to cancel the transfer so I can have a chance at landing a whale in free agency.

Euro transfers are different Tbug.
They allow you to plan ahead. .. Not sure where you got the impression that a Euro would be a year 1 guy...when he does not transfer til after the season ends and before the new one.
Sorry...but if you can find that info...where it says that fine, but if not...well oops!
I got Ville Leino to agree to terms in September of year 1. He transferred to me in between 1 and 2. He was then a year 2 guy and the only other one I could go after was Mr. McArdle. So ...unfortunately your Euro would be a year 2 guy as well.
It is the date they transfer that they actually sign, not the date you get them to agree to come over next season.

Little question about offer sheets...
With a certain amount, the compensation for an offer sheet should be a 2nd or 1st pick, or several 1st picks, etc. However, we're not allowed to
trade our 1st and 2nd round picks, and not allowed to
trade picks of future drafts.
But with offer sheets, those picks are not involved in a trade, but as a compensation... So... Legal? Illegal?
My bet is that it would be
illegal to use 1st and 2nd picks (our picks for future drafts) in offer sheets too, as we
must have our 1st and 2nd picks for each draft and aren't allowed to deal with future drafts picks in trades, so why should we in offer sheets?

Just my thoughts though...

You betcha big guy! Cannot move 1st and 2nd. Must have them...includes offer sheets...cause they are really just trades. Yep..they are just trades. And thus..they are illegal to use 1st and 2nd rounder in.

ok so I went through and found when I asked the original question and will post the response. To trace everything the question was asked on the bottom of page 2 of the BlackHawks season 9.1 and 9.2 thread and answered on page 3
thunderbug wrote:when does "the free agency season" change and become the next one? So lets say you sign 2 Europeans and they go through during the transfer window will you still be able to sign any for the upcoming season or is that it?
Danny wrote:batdad said in the other thread:
"A season is from Jul 1 to Jun 30. When contracts expire, a new season begins for our purposes."
The transfer window opens on June 7th. So if you sign him in October 06 and he joins you in June 07 he, according to the rules, should count to the 2006-2007 season.

Personally, I don't really care how this is dealt with t-bug. However, I made the rules (with B72 and others). It sounds as though there may some miscommunication on this topic in the past as to how the rule is intended. It needs to stay consistent with how we deal with homegrown Euro signings, and what you are asking for is inconsistent in my mind.
Right now, please do not debate this. THere is no point. It is my opinion.
For now. I am saying stick to what I have said. Unfortunately, B72 is not around right now that much (life--darn thing getting in the way), but when he is he and I will discuss and get back to you. The rule could still go in your favour.

ok, I wasn't meaning to debate it. I just was wanting some clarification from what I asked about earlier and may have read your other post wrong but thought you were asking for when I asked about it originally. I can deal either way, just depends on whether I get to sign 1 Euro or 2.

I just thought of something. Are the homegrown requirements different for goaltenders than they are for defensemen and forwards? What I mean is, do they still qualify as a homegrown player if they've played less than 25 games in the NHL? 25 games for a goaltender is much different than 25 games for a forward.

No..they are same requiremens, because of Calder eligibility rules. Goalie has the same rule in real life.

hey checking to make sure I have the right interp on the rules before I go ahead with this. There is an RFA out there (big name) that has not been signed after 20 games. He isn't my RFA. If I trade for his rights, would that put him in my system and then be able to sign him without counting as a signing since I used one on a Eurotransfer and other on Forsberg and am then out?

If you trade for his rights he doesn't could as a UFA signing (he'd be a RFA signing). If you tried to sign him to an offer sheet to steal him from his current team, that would count as a UFA signing (plus you'd have to make sure you still has 1st and 2nd round draft picks to use in addition to the ones you'd have to give up for the signing).

lol I had it set up with the trade ready to pull the trigger (delayed it so I could say no if need to.) I ended up getting him for slightly less than I would have to pay on an offersheet. The RFA in question was Toivonen who I plan to replace Esche with. I also set one up for Esche for Montoya straight up. I did the offer all and that is what NYR offered so I decided not to look back and take it.

Hey guys-
I was wondering if I can enter the challenge now, even though I missed the first year. I got a new job right after the challenge started, so I never made it past pre-season. I just got a new job, but I'm in training for 9 weeks, so I will have time to play again. I know that if I can play I wouldn't be eligible for any bonus points for a while.
If I'm not allowed to enter now, when do you think you will start the next challenge?
Thanks,
Tim

If you can make the 9.2 60 games deadline( which will be about 10 days from now) then you can enter the challenge, however you will miss out on any improvement points at the end of the season & the first bonus points for 9.2.

ok got a question here. I just read the new post batdad had in the rosters and trades thingie, and it made me think of something. During my second season Smolinski went down with an injury at the 13th game mark. I've got a screenie just in case he got injured a couple more times and couldn't make his games. When he went down I called up Bolland to play some minutes with the big club. At the time I was running it tight and not carrying more on my NHL roster other than the 20 playing and I knew I could get him back down. Anyways just curious how that sitch would play out. With the new thingie in place.

Not sure what you mean?
You declare your core before you play games. If Smoke is in your core, and he does not make his games..you post his injury screen shots showing how long he was out for with the injury. From that we can tell if you are being
1. Honest
2. Playing around with your roster because Bolland outplayed Smoke,
So...basically declare your roster before you play 1 reg season game. Tis that simple. Screenshots are a must to cover injuries who do not play required games.
If smoke is out 10 days..he can reach his games and we know that. If he is out 4 months..different story...If out 1 month, can likely still make it, because the games played is lenient. So watch out./

Alright looks like I wasn't being clear enough. My worry was with the new thing about the homegrown thing for in the future if someone has a situation similar to what I did where they are sort of forced to bring one up in the first 20 games and send back down and that will show up in the stats since we do a screenie at 20 games atleast I think we do. In that case would it be best to have the screenshot of the injury to explain or what?

Bolland outplaying smoke was the furthest from my mind I actually had Arkhipov on the second (he did rather well for the few games) and Bolland on the 3rd with Ruutu.

If you have to use a potential homegrown more than 25 games when he is not your homegrown..then you just have to have another guy as your homegrown the next year. The advice has always been to have more than just 1 guy lying around you are waiting to use as your next season's homegrown, just in case what happened to you with having to bring Bolland up happens.
I know I have at least 3 right now, and in previous seasons I have had 5 or 6 or more in the minors ready to go just in case.
In fact I have had so many that I have 4 rooks in my lineup this season, of which only Toews is my homegrown.
YOu can use whoever as call ups on your roster ... whenever. But if he is not listed as your homegrown BEFORE the season starts..he is just another player on your roster you can do whatever with. If the young guy who is the call up plays less than 25 games he could still be homegrown the next season. If more than 25 then he cannot.

Just to make things crystal clear... If he plays 25 games, no more, no less, i guess he
can't be homegrown eligible, right?
If so, he is homegrown eligible if he played
strictly less than 25 games, and is no longer eligible if he played 25 games or more.
Right?

Yep. IF he has played 25 NHL games, he is not Calder eligible and therefore not HOMEGROWN ELIGIBLE. 24 is fine, 25 is not.
