FYI - I work at a school, and I'm off for "Spring Break" March 24th to April 1st (giving me opportunity to get a lot done on the 1974 db).....at this point I suspect a second test release will occur in early April

Photo pack v1 should be done by then, I have 563 of 848 done right now. After these are done, I'll start gathering photos for the juniors and the Europeans.

Half way through my second season, but haven't been playing much - spending more time on the photos...

Awesome! Very cool! =D>

Also available are a set of NHL 1974 center ice logos kindly put together for me by B. Stinson! The style is "two logos facing each other inside the center ice circle" like the Flyers logos in this screenshot http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =13&t=9155

It may have already been noted and really isn't very important but a lot of players that are not rookies show up as rookies. I'm still in my first season as I've been too busy to play much but I'm hoping to have more time this week. :-)

When you look at a player in the Editor there are a number of tabs of information, including the Player History tab and the Player Info tab......I updated the Player History tab (via Arch's History Editor) with the IRL historical WHA/NHL stats, but I didn't update the Player Info tab (most are basically blank) - it apears EHM uses the data on the Player Info tab to determine a few things, including Rookie Status

Arch is working on a tool to upadate the "Player Info Tab" in the Editor (the tool will "read" the History that's there and input it into the Player Info tab), so this issue should be fixable

Are you planning to change the player/coach guys to player only? If so I've noticed Leon Rochefort (Vancouver) should be a player only I think.

No I am not.
From my testing last year the game itself seems to require a full compliment of coaches (and an Assistant GM), so if there weren't the hitorical players as player/coaches there would be modern coaches hired.....I prefer historical players in a player/coach role to modern coaches...

The one problem I have is that Rochefort shows up as an NHL coach even though he's playing in Milwaukee. :-k :-k Fuuny that he doesn't show up as a coach in Milwaukee though :-? Must have a lot of air miles by now I think :-D

That' s bizarre! This is something I'm sure would have been fixed if SI had continued working on EHM.....

I do think the problem may ultimately be fixable though.....when Archi finnishes the Attribute Editor modifications for me I'll be able to edit Reputation easier and it'll make this issue unlikely to occur.....for now I just edited/increased Rochefort's Home/Current Reputation - it was only 100 for both so that is likely why he was sent to the AHL (back when I was "creating" historical NHL players, about a year ago now, I didn't realize how much the game makes personal decisions based on Reputation)

One other thing is that Rochefort is one of the few players who doesn't have to pass through waivers even though he should. Since he is a marginal player that may also be a factor plus his age as well.

few more noticed:

Spelt Dennis Hextall wrong ("Denis")

Bruce Affleck - on your list you gave me he's listed with the Blues, in-game he's with the Seals? Noticed a few other guys who's in-game team doesn't match with the list, but didn't think to note them down.

Gord Gallant - shouldn't his aggression be higher?

Dennis Sobchuk's attributes seem a little low to me?

Seals is correct. He's a 1974 Seal 2nd round draft pick; he never played a game for the Seals and was traded to the Blues January 9, 1975.......since the idea is the game starts August 30, 1974 he is (now) correctly on the Seals at start-up

Another: You spelt Irek Gimayev's name wrong (you wrote Erik, should be Irek).

Might I make another suggestion? You have some players written as "Sergei" and some as "Sergey". Could one be chosen and used, for consistency's sake? There are other issues I have with the transliteration of Russian names, but I guess that's not so important (more accurate would be to write "Tretyak", "Vyacheslav" instead of "Tretiak", "Viacheslav", etc, but).

Almost all of the historical Russians/Europeans in game are those created by Pens66 when he created the 1979-80 database, and pretty much all I've done is lower CA and change birth year..........I'm going to wait on things like name changes until I'm actually sitting down to look at European/Russian Leagues/Players as a whole (maybe in the summer?)

A thought on name accuracy.....more accurate compared to what? I have DVDs where Tretiak's name is spelt differently on the back of his own jersey! HaHa

I guess I can understand how one may think this matters (and I accept to some it does), but I am one person making a HUGE effort in my FREETIME and with all due respect the "simple english style spelling" for European/Russian names works just fine for me

Regards

Accuracy, in regards to the transcription of Russian writing into English. There /are/ standards for it, but I know as far as hockey and sports are concerned, it's been all over the place. Even the KHL and IIHF have only just started to use the standard transcription system (which'd give Vladislav Tretyak, Sergei Fyodorov, etc.).

But that here or there, I understand that, I'd be more personally concerned with consistency - either Sergei or Sergey, either Viktor or Victor, as opposed to a mix of both. :)

I understand that, and appreciate your work greatly!

It matters to me, slightly - I wouldn't put a priority on it if I were in your place. As far as European names that are natively written in latin letters goes, seeing something like "Marjamaki" doesn't bother me, I automatically read it as "Marjamäki" anyways. I just think that, further down the road when everything else is good to go, this might be something to think about.

More practically, this came up in regards to working on the photo pack. For a name like Marjamäki or Šťastný, the filename would have to be "Marjamaki" or "Stastny" - the game's system won't recognise letters with diacritics in filenames, so it's irrelevant to me. But in a name where there's an obvious misspelling, be it "Denis" instead of "Dennis" or "Erik" instead of "Irek", it occurred to me, do I name the file with the spelling error intact, or do I point it out?

Excuse the ramble, just thought I'd point out why I even brought this up in the first place!

The "simple, english style spelling" of Gimayev's first name is Erik (and that's what the hockey db site uses too).....

XenHL wrote:the game's system won't recognise letters with diacritics in filenames
Neither does excel, which I frequently work in (and Archi's tools export into excel, and import back into the game from excel).....

XenHL wrote: do I name the file with the spelling error intact, or do I point it out?
If I've spelled a NA name incorrectly then by all means point it out! And please point out "typos" regardless of nationality.....but if it's an issue of "letters with diacritics" then at this point in time don't bother...

Right now there are less than 100 historical European/Russian players playing in Europe/Russia...I can easily see adding 100 more using the same simple, english style spelling.......When I get to dealing with the European/Russian Leagues, and I'm dealing with adding thousands of historical Europeans/Russians, then I'll look at letters with diacritics (for example, thanks to user SharksAttack I've long had historical Finnish rosters for well over a dozen teams, and they use letters with diacritics)

Regards :-)

Not sure if you want American Hockey League stuff but the Grand Rapids Griffins name shows up just as Grand in the boxscore.

The "Nickname" section in the Editor was blank, maybe this is the problem....I've inputted Griffins into the Nickname section (a handful of other AHL teams were similarly without a Nickname....now fixed)

The nickname section I've found is usually empty (and I've left it empty in my DBs without issue). In fact, I've never seen the nickname field have any actual in-game effect.

The name used in boxscores and player stats pages is taken from the "short name" field. What was in there before?

Players that are too good offensively in my game:
Frank Hughes
Larry Lund
Andre Hinse
Ron Schock
Andre Boudrias
Jim Boyd
Bob Bourne
Germain Gagnon
Gavin Kirk
Hugh Harris
Veli-Pekka Ketola
Mike Bloom
Bob Kelly
Dick Sentes
Bob Hess

Not sure how variable they may be from game to game so maybe the other testers can comment on them.
The Goalies and defencemen are hard for me to judge but they seem pretty accurate so far. :)
