Well deserved too what a silly thing to do no way it was an accident.

I think 20 games is steep, but whatever. The most worrying thing about this for me is that the NHL hasn't even spoken about the concussion spotters even with this incident and the Ekblad concussion (where he finished the game) in short succession. That either means the NHL doesn't think it's a problem or it means that they are just sweeping it under the rug, both are terrible things.
Edit: Wideman was always getting 10+ games though, because if they don't suspend him for a long time they admit that he played concussed, which then blows back on the NHL for letting him play concussed (which i'm 90% sure he did). I don't agree with it but NHL needs to cover their own behinds.
Travis Yost said it well on twitter - "If NHL ruled in favor of Wideman, they'd be saying (a) a player was concussed; (b) not identified; (c) not put in protocol; (d) kept playing" - "NHL already has to deal with quotes like 'fighting helps cool the temperatures in games' from their commish. They don't need this too."

Wideman was more or less made an example off, if you touch the ref.

The concussion spotter identified Wideman to get checked but he declined, after the game he was diagnosed with a concussion by the Flames doctor. This is the reason the concussion spotters need to have some power so that he can just force Wideman off. Players (and probably teams) will always do whatever they can to keep playing, the league needs to stop them when there is a risk of concussion.

Wow I'm surprised Toronto and Ottawa made a trade that big together!
Phaneuf, Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey, Ryan Rupert and Cody Donaghey vs Colin Greening, Milan Michalek, Tobias Lindberg, Jared Cowen and OTT second round pick in 2017.
Looking at it right now, not sure who wins this one. I don't know half the names from Toronto but it seems pretty even considering how Phaneuf lost his value over the years.

Hard to pick a winner there, depends on a few things. First off, can Phaneuf elevate his game in a new environment? He's a good but overpayed player, can he become a solid #2/#3 for Sens? Can Michalek or Cowen reinvent themselves and get a second wind in their careers? Will Donaghey, Lindberg or the 2nd amount to anything in the NHL? The rest i see as pure throw ins with little to no chance to have any impact.

What do you guys think about Hartley's decision to bench Monahan, Gaudreau and Bouma? He certainly have some gut to do that to his best scorers!

It certainly look like it worked though.

I have no idea what they did, they broke some internal rules, so i guess it's a fine way to send a message. Helped that they were playing a Toronto team that looked more like an AHL team then a NHL team on paper.

You can't just bench three players because they had a bad game.
They were drunk after the Super Bowl = hungover.

Hawks were lucky to get their hands on Panarin! What a player he is! I'm curious to see if it will last through the years.

Ladd is back to Chicago! Chicago gave Dano, their first round pick of 2016 and a pick from 2018. I'm surprised they gave up Dano but I guess this is what the cost was for Ladd. Nice addition for the Hawks though.
Edit: Jay Harrison and Matt Fraser are also part of the deal, going to Chicago.

Hawks are all in...getting Ladd was a solid move and if they win again, their fan base won't care that they gave up a 1st rounder for a rental

And now they gave a second rounder and Danault to MTL for Weise and Fleishmann.

Teams are already pretty active! Seems like Toronto and *sigh* Edmonton are trying to finish last.....if Edmonton wins the lottery again I don't know what I'm going to do.

Today is pretty relax so far.
Only big trade I just noticed is the Avs getting Boedker for Tanguay, Beackley and Kyle Wood. I'm surprised to see Tanguay and Beackley go. Beackley was supposed to be a good prospect IIRC and I never really liked Boedker that much, always thought he was overrated a bit.

Kris Russell to Dallas for Jokipakka, Pollock and 2nd round conditional to Calgary.
I don't think Russell is worth this much.

Blech! Don Sweeney/Bruins whiffed today. They didn't manage to make a trade for Eriksson and they're not going to be able to agree to a reasonable contract with him, so he'll be a UFA come July and he'll get paid by somebody else. The Bruins will get nothing. Also, Sweeney traded for Liles! What the Dickens? He gave up a minor leaguer, a 3rd and a 5th. Honestly, just the 5th would've been too much!

While Chiarelli was no prize, Don Sweeney has done nothing to impress me.
