It's mostly a financial issue/bug. Players want too much money for their worth and teams sign players they probably shouldn't and many of those players end up in the AHL because of budget/cap issues. It's a problem that has been around awhile and seems to be worse or better depending on the database and the salary cap.

Shockingly, my pitiful Coyotes didn't make the playoffs, so I'm continuing to sim day by day with the real life calendar. I am not getting emails that some of my previously drafted players (real life picks, not me), I'm going to lose their exclusive team rights if I don't sign them by June.
This is for guys drafted in 2013 and before it seems. My board keeps mentioning that I have around $925k to offer for a contract, but is this a TOTAL amount, or for each player?
Most of these guys want more...is that normal? They also seem to want to be considered a team regular, even though they haven't played one NHL game.
I guess I'm just looking for a little insight into all of this before something sneaks up on me.
I already have some teams outside of the NHL offering these guys contracts?! Again, not sure how this all works!
Thanks!

Note should come near start of playoffs. I got all mine.
$ they want...are the $ each player wants. Board will allow for each player...as it says in the contract.
yeah, sometimes that is what they want re regular. Not always but occasionally.
Guess if others are offering them deals, since RFA offers from other teams means you lost their rights. Not sure why you did not know. I have had all my RFA expriing, unqualified notes etc.

Sorry, I can't quite make sense of that last post. Thanks for the info, but it's difficult to understand?

I think what batdad is saying that you should get reminders 6 months and 3 months and 1 week before you lose rights to players. If you are under cap and under player budget you should have no trouble signing prospects but sometimes if you are near or over either of those the board may limit what you can offer. the $925 you refer to is the maximum amount your board will allow per year of the ELC, which is for 3 years. First rounders usually settle for $750-$850 for me anyway and subsequent rounds settle for less on most occasions. AFAIK restricted free agents cannot be offered contracts by other teams till after July 1st. Seems that way to me tho I try to sign my prospects by early January and RFA's to be well before June if possible. Hope this helps.

Thank you--that makes sense!
Here is a specific example: Maxim Goncharov was a 15th round selection in 2013, and Lokomotiv Yaroslavi has offered a contract to him on 5-3-15. Coyotes (me) own his rights, so I have to resign this guy again or lose him? How the heck aren't these draft picks protected longer?!!

NHL rights only affect NHL teams. Euro teams can still offer contracts, but other NHL teams can't.

He will probably have an NHL release clause and still sign with you before July.

Finally, is there a way to port my saved game into the new version? Is the new version stable enough yet?

I'm in the pre-season and, all of a sudden, the computer dumped two substitutes (names in grey) on me (with their cap hits) for no clear reason. My roster was already complete and I don't need any substitutes. These two ridiculous clowns put me over my cap. Are they gonna go away when the training camp hits?

Goncharov took a deal that was about $200k less from me and signed with CSKA. It says I still own his rights...so what does this all actually mean? Why would he not take an offer from an NHL team?
It also seems odd that the players want to be considered a core part of the team when they've never played in the league?
Thanks for sharing any info you can!

Well, the two weirdos did leave when the training camp came around. That was still pretty weird, though. A bug maybe?

Any advice on positional awareness? My first line is Hubeardeau and Rakall, I am missing the right wing that will make it amazing. I am heading into the 2015-2016 offseason and their are some decent options to take the position, but they are natural LWs, and only accomplished RWs. Will that matter that much? My coach moved Emerson Etem on the first line to pair with these guys and he isn't doing as well as he was on the 2nd line, so I am unsure about signing a natural LW to play first line RW. The guys I am looking at are Kreider from NYR and Gaudreau from Calgary, both are RFA's but I am willing to give up the draft picks for them. So should I sign them or should I try and trade for a natural RW to man the post?

The "grey players" always appear when you don't have a full roster. For example - you have two goalies who both get injured, then you get two "grey" goalies.

Pretty early to have Rakell on a 1st line IMHO AustSaint. He does not look ready in most of my games I have played until at least the third season. As for the other questions that is totally your call as to what would make team better. Gaudreau is good, but small...I would want someone with size on that line above.

It's not uncommon for Russian players to prefer their home league even in real life. Whether or not it's realistic that he grabbed a lower paying "job" is debatable. Perhaps CSKA agreed to give him a core role, while you didn't? Or even Key Player role. AFAIK that's another aspect affecting the players' decision.
Edit: It also seems he has a history of playing for CSKA, which might make him want to go back to familiar circles.

I only acquired him at the trade deadline in the second season, but he has been an assist machine alongside Hubeardeau. So his ETA is about right, thanks for the advice, I think I will either trade for a very good RW or sign Kreider as he projects to be a 1st line power forward.

I know that, but I wasn't missing any positions. I had a full team.

Hi guys, apologies if this isn't quite the right thread for this but I couldn't get my search to bring me anywhere better!
I'm playing as the Pittsburgh Penguins as I fancied the challenge of trying to balance out their roster and restock their prospect depth. One problem though, none of my players are valued at higher than 3* when it comes to trading! I was taking the approach that everyone has a price and was hoping to get some interesting offers for Sid, Geno, Letang and Flower but as they're salaries are high and value low i'm getting nothing!
Now I did set them as available for financial reasons and just prior to this post wondered if that may affect their value on the trade market?
One thing's for sure, whatever is causing the low value for these guys it's making this rebuild/retool a challenge haha!!
Thanks for any advice.

Yes. Any change to status will affect value. Other teams know you need to make salary changes, and they will try and take you to cleaners. Have to be careful with how you deal with status of player in trades. It does affect value.

Thanks batdad, as soon as I thought it to myself I figured that's what it would be but I'm at work so haven't had a chance to try adjusting it in game. I'm probably better off taking them off the trade block and just looking to make some offers myself then really?

Most likely. Cannot guarantee it will make things any better. Teams may have issues taking on the salary and that may be why those guys are 3 star only. EHM is a complicated beast, which is why I love it so much.
