Cheers for taking the time to post.

Agreed on Bowns :)

I think the assistant coach has been nominated the 'head coach' position as he'll effectivley be the 'bench' coach. As you say there isn't a way to accurately model the player/Head Coach role.

I know affiliations is something Arch has been ruminating on for the last version of the db so cheers for your thoughts. The game is (still) based on a model for North American hockey primarily. I tried modelling the Coventry/MK Lightning 'relationship' in my own mod of the database for this season and all they did was recall the guys I had on loan and sent me down a bunch I didn't want!

Feel free to post further regarding any of the above points and if you have any ideas on how certain players can be improved/strengths/weaknesses then post them here and they can be considered. Obviously they may have to be 'balanced' once they are entered into the db so they arent too powerful(it's unlikely that any of the above will get called into the NHL for instance) but it's always good to make the players more 'individual' in their traits.

No worries. Yeah, there's probably no better way to tackle the player/head coach issue I guess.

If there are relationships in real life (e.g. Nottingham Lions -> both Nottingham U18s teams, Peterborough Phantoms -> Peterborough Islanders) then I think they should be in the game, as these teams borrow players from one another all the time. Things like Coventry and MKL are less strong – not used that much in real life and not based on any kind of permanent setup as two teams within the same club, etc – and it's unlikely that they'll stay that way forever (e.g. when MKL step up into the EIHL), so I'd argue that they shouldn't be set up as affiliations within EHM.

As for players, I'll have a look in the game properly at some point, but on initial observations after literally just one hour of glancing around:
– Ben Bowns, Mark Richardson, Matty Davies, Robert Dowd, David Phillips = overall improvement
- Matt Haywood = quicker and better passing/stickhandling
- Paul Swindlehurst = better defensively/stronger
- Mike Blaisdell, Dave Whistle, Paul Heavey, Paul Thompson should all be really good coaches by British-league standards
- Existing coaches/player-coaches in the EIHL, EPL and ENL should all have at least a couple of average/OK attributes
– There also seems to be a lack of British players in the EPL that would be suitable signings for EIHL teams on a 3rd/4th-line basis (for example, Phil Hill was on a 2-way with Steelers when I started the game – I realise he's only just 4th-line EIHL standard in real life, but he looked way below that on his attributes). Maybe it's just a case of slightly improving the top-scoring / best-performing British players in the EPL a bit.

I'll try to suggest more later when I've played the game properly, if I remember!

Hope that helps.

Retired one of them!

Should Evan Mosey from Nottingham be a d-man or a forward?
He signed with Rockford in the AHL

'Natural' D-man and 'Accomplished' Right-winger?

He played on the wing for Nottingham in the play-off finals and for Team GB in the recent World Championships.

Theres loads of Brit guys who probably need retiring. Problem is (like Nick Poole for Thunder this season, after I swore to Arch he'd 'retired' properly when he became Lightning GM) too often they'll come back!

Joking apart this sort of info is good. Having looked at a lot of the staff recently there are some teams with only a player-coach to their name, and it is a pain when the AI signs these guys for Elite/EPL teams as free agents when we know they've not iced in years. Not sure whether staff can be assigned to international sides though, that would be one for Arch I think?

I'm having enough 'fun' looking through all the Brits who were actually on a team in TBL 8.2 :) not had a chance to look at FA/UFA guys (though a few notables who joined teams late-season I've added to squad-lists.

Cheers for flagging it up.

Arch/Manimal:

Some Staffing changes at MK Lightning/EPIHL for the coming season:

Grant McPherson has retired from playing to join the coaching team (change to player-coach and assign to MKL as a Asst. Coach)
Nick Poole appears to be playing for MK Thunder as an import this season (revert him to a 'player-coach' and assign to Thunder as a Player, no functionality in the database as I understand to also have him retain his position as MKL GM? So have him as a player. I'll update his Atts when I submit the spreadsheet for this year)*
Nathan Craze needs to move from MKL to Hull Pirates (set as 'Head Coach' as from the press-release it sounded like he would run the bench next year and still no option for Player/Head Coach)
Ross Green will start the season contracted to MKL but playing for MK Thunder. He will be coaching as well (change to player-coach and assign to MK Thunder as a player - not sure he can be a player-coach on loan?)

Another thing I've noticed (from PR and from being a goalie-fan) is that a lot of the senior goalies at this level 'double-up' as goalie-coaches? I'd suggest the following guys are made into player-coaches and assigned as player-coaches for their respective teams:

Przemyslaw Odrobny (Milton Keynes Lightning)
Alex Mettam (Bracknell Bees)
Stevie Lyle (Swindon Wildcats)
Ondrej Raszka (Telford Tigers)
Ben Bowns (Cardiff Devils)

These are just guys who I have heard about coaching/mentoring players at this level from PR/Forum posts. If they are assigned correctly I will look at making sure they have appropriate coaching attributes for the next database version.

*Arch, I promise never to tell you to definitely retire a player again, no matter how old they get!

Mike Hammond should be contracted to Braehead Clan rather than Belfast Giants.

Think it should be Canadian (so he's classed as in 'import') and British second, but with him declared for GB?
