This thread is really interesting.

I will do the same when I start my career game, though I will probably start with my home team in Denmark. Then see if I can make it from there to Germany or Sweden and onwards to the ECHL/AHL and then the NHL.

Have any of you guys gotten to the NHL yet?

No, but at the moment I'm in Prince Albert Raiders in WHL, I've been in Wightlink, Odense and PAR.

After reading this thread and the article posted, I decided to try my hand at rebuilding Wightlink and possibly moving up later on. Just about to start camp in my first year and these are the transactions I've made so far

Had a player actually quit on me, it's the first time I've ever seen that. Oh well, just saves me the trouble of cutting him. I got 3 messages from coaches telling me how dissapointed they were in him during camp. He stunk it up in exhibitions and during the 1st couple months. The 6.5 rating is misleading for exhibition games b/c he received a 9 rating for one, his highest besides that was the 7 he got a few games ago.

The good news is, when he quit, I signed this kid, and he's been tearing it up for a 14 year old. I only signed him to play 4th line and maybe some special teams, but he's had to play a few games on the 2nd line due to injuries and he's played very well on the 3rd line.

The great thing with a team like this is that even though the players just got a few attributes over ten they are considered as "great players", Cross is one of them.

I know, it's tough to decide who will be good when most players have few attributes in the orange/yellow!

Well, I took a job with Windsor in the OHL during the offseason. I didn't want to leave the Raiders so early, but I was already ranked 3rd among GMs in Great Britian so what did I have to gain by staying? They finished last in the OHL last year, so it should be another rebuilding project anyway. At the end of November, we were in 4th place and I was offered the job with Hersey. Not sure if I'm going to take it, so I saved and exited the game. I'll have to sleep on it. Any thoughts? Is it wrong to leave a team in the middle of the season, only 5 months after you moved in?

It isn't wrong, you should play the game however you want to.

Personally, when I play a career game starting low and moving up, I make a house rule to only move after I have won something with my current team whether it is cup, regular season or playoffs. But that's just me. I also moved straight from EPL to Juniors, which I find a huge leap, but if I have had success however minor I feel less exploiting to move then.

I am playing with the same house rule.

It seems much to easy to get jobs in the game compared to real life.

Its not that easy. The last game i did i started with the prince albert raiders in the whl. moved to the Fresno Falcons of the ECHL 2 years later.. and was still managing that team in 2012. I tried to get hired on every higher job.. but nothing
i wonder if Don Cherry influence the game...

Thanks for the feedback. I wouldn't have taken the job with Winsor if I would have been managing a good team and didn't win anything, but I figured since I took the worst team in the league and lost in the final in a shootout, all while being handcuffed by the lowest payroll, it would be reasonable that the GM would take on a job with the worst team in another league. Besides, I was the 3rd highest rated GM in GB (I know not exactly something to brag about) and didn't have much room for advancement.

I don't think it's realistic to take a job during a season, and I have never done that before, guess that's my house rule. I went ahead and took the job, then saved it as a different name. I figure, if I want to manage an AHL team, I can use it. But I will finish out the season with Windsor. I think I will stick it out in the juniors a little while, I enjoy it more than the AHL. I like the scouting and digging for talent, in the AHL, you have to deal with what your NHL club gives you. I feel responsible for the development of their players and try to get them playing time over those on my payroll.

wouldn't it be great if they put something like this as a challenge instead of just NHL teams all of the time.

guyw2: In fact, this thread is more or less an unofficial challenge It would be a bit hard to make it as a real challenge, and some users are interested mainly or only by playing in the NHL, reason why the challenges take place only in the NHL actually. This may change over the time however, if there's enough people interested in doing another kind of challenges

By the way, is any of you reached the NHL yet? If not, where are you actually?

It's always fun to start at the bottom and work your way up to the top. I have done that many times, but I have never went out of the United States. I'll usually start with the Central Hockey League and work my way up from there.

The first time I ever did that was when I spent the first 15 years with the Rocky Mountain Rage of the CHL. Then I took the Texas Wildcatters job in the ECHL for 4 years. I then moved to the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL for about 8 years and I finally landed in the NHL when I took the New York Rangers job and I stayed on that for about 10 years.

I had to stop playing that game because of the latest update. It only covered the year so far up and I was way past that. I had fun moving my way up through the ranks though and the thing for me was to wait and see if teams would come knocking my way and they did, but I don't understand exactly why though.

Some people around here have said that they have never had teams come and offer them the job, but I had it happen to me. I am getting ready to start playing again from the bottom to the top. Maybe if this happens to me, then I'll snap a picture of it and show you all what I am exactly talking about.

Also, in the GM options, the little button that you click to offer yourself to bigger and better teams is not clicked. So for a team to come after me, that is sort of weird.

I also wanted to point out that I have been fired about 3 times as well.

Don't ever win 3 championships in a row and then start to lose, because you will get kicked out.

Well, i wouldn't say that, it took a shootout for me to beat these guys with my St. Louis Blues.

So do you have to play with all leagues on to get other job offers?? I'm starting a new game with Tappara in the SM-Liiga, but the only other league I turned on was the NHL. What's the advantage of having them all turned on??

Yes you need all on to get job others. You only need them on standard.
