Yeah that's an interesting hypothesis. Maybe if SJ doesn't feel like they have a chance at the Cup they'll trade him.

They'd have to do it at deadline and they're in a division where they'll easily get a top3 spot.

To me it's bery unlikely they'll trade him.

More interesting is the case of Pavelski's re-signing along with potential Karlsson's extension..

It's unlikely but it's still possible. If not, they wouldn't have add that to the trade IMO.

Henrik Zetterberg officially is done, will not play again. Going on LTIR. Degenerative back condition. He didn't practice last season and played 82 games anyways.

Feels bad, man.

I was so hyped at July 1st hoping for Tavares, then there was almost complete silence from the Sharks and now this blockbuster! PHEW! I really do hope that they can convince him to re-sign with the team :-k

It seems they're confident he'll re-sign.

Contract will most probably be based on Doughty's, and that's fair enough for EK65 imo.

It's gonna be hard for them to resign Pavelski though but I guess Thornton doesn't have many seasons left, so it will free cap space.

It's very likely Thornton's playing his last season, and I'd let go Pavs (34yo) if I it means keeping Karlsson for 8 years..

But who will lead their offense without Pavelski? Couture is good but he's not a 70-80 pts players.

I'm just wondering when is the rebuild going to happen and how is Karlssons possible 8-year contract fit into that :-k Not really upated on prospect pool but there aren't probably many top-tier prospects to fill the shoes of Jumbo (39), Pavs (34), Vlacic (31), Burns (33) etc. when the time comes...

Not much to talk about so... this has *truly* been an interesting Detroit camp this year. It's been a long, long time since we've seen anything nearly this interesting for the Wings.

Jussi Jokinen came in on a tryout, and fans groaned because these guys almost always end up making the DET roster. He's been released, which is good, because he didn't look very good, and DET needs those spots for younger guys. Filip Zadina has been sent down to Grand Rapids to start the season (no big deal really, he's so young), though he didn't look terrible or anything. He should have nothing to be upset or ashamed about, he may be back up by November or something.

DET waived Luke Witkowski (an overdue move TBH).

Michael Rasmussen (a forward) and Dennis Cholowski (defense) both say they've been told they made the roster. That leaves still undecided on other young d-men (Hronek, Sulak, and Hicketts). And DET's regular def. corps is not in good shape (Green out, Ericsson hurt, Daley iffy still, EDIT: and now Kronwall may not play in the opener?), so more than one of those three might stick around for a while yet.

However, even with all of that... DET still had a kid come out of nowhere and still be on the roster. Christopher Ehn seems to have beat out Dominic Turgeon (who DET has sent down to GR). Nobody here really knows anything about Ehn still, but when he's played he seems pretty solid. I thought both Turgeon and Ehn looked good in the limited time I got to see them play, to be honest.

I guess camp is fun when there are actual jobs up for grabs. Imagine that.

I thought they would send Zadina back in the Q instead. :-? At the same time, he dominated so much that maybe the AHL is a better choice.

Kotkaniemi made the team in MTL. He was very impressive and learns very fast!

There was a big to-do about that.

After being drafted, Halifax promptly notified Detroit that they expected Zadina to be reassigned back to the "Q" (which in retrospect seems kinda' weird, that they did this unprompted). This irked Detroit, because they were under the understanding that Zadina was not actually Halifax property and was simply on loan to the "Q" from his European club -- Paradubice HC -- and that Detroit owed Halifax nothing. Halifax got upset over it, and the NHL ended up ruling Zadina was on loan, not Halifax property. So he can go to the AHL.

I'm not going to lie. I'd like to see more and more "kids"/youth in the NHL, more youth making teams around the league. It'd be a sign that the league is moving to still more speed and skill, and less size, and I think that'd improve the product leaguewide.

Wow I never heard about that! Interesting stuff!

Meanwhile MTL named Weber captain. Not a huge surprise there but it's definitely an improvement over Pacio.

He will be the first player born after the millennium that plays a game in "The Big Four"(NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB). 8-)
