Amen. :joy:

It's the right issue but the wrong solution... the solution is ditch the shootout. There's enough info and sentiment out there now to at least put up to a vote for next year and I think Gary might be surprised how little actual interest in maintaining the shootout there is from within the league and even more surprised how little support there actually is for it from the fans after two years.

The real turning point for this issue though will be when team make or miss the playoffs due to the performance in a shootout after a final game of the season for a team. Even people that suopport or don't actively mind the shootout will to a person say "but I don't want a shootout determining if a team makes it into the playoffs or not though".

Football has already got the shootout virus, which has even spread to the top level (ie the world cup final) - it's just no way to decide any contest.

If the shootout is allowed to stay in the NHL, I can see Bettman trying to put it into the playoffs at some point...

Ah, but he will have his poll from unnamed location to defend himself. I can hear it: " Well when we polled our fans, our fans are telling us, that as a league the shootout is the most exciting, and most interesting innovation in the game of hockey, since curved sticks!"

Oh, and they don't care about fans they already have Minstrel.Sheesh. How many times do you have to be told and shown? The Buttman only cares about fans in Nashville, Alabama, Oklahoma, Phoenix, Carolina (sorry inSTAALed--where are you?), Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and BUMBLEF*CK.

The shootout will stay...watch.

I personally would like to see 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and no overtime other than in the playoffs. I'm a life long fan of hockey and really have never seen the problem with ties; they are part of the fabric of the game.

I personally like a good shootout, except of course when my Flames get into that! Seriously though, I think the biggest mistake the league has made is to award points for an overtime or shootout loss. Losing, no matter how you do it, is still losing and there should never be points awarded when you don't win.

Teams will play to get into overtime, and then in some cases to get to a shootout. Because post-regulation is a guaranteed point, this can make for a rather boring and constrictive third period.

I would like to think that two points for a win in regulation or overtime, a point for a shootout win, and no points any way you lose would make for better hockey. It would also filter out the phoney winning records of teams who have OTL padded on.
