I have Paul Hendry in my Chelmsford team, and after a "4" rated game I fined him and he's still annoyed enough months down the line to hand in his notice and quit the team :( He has been far and away my best player and I have two weeks to find a replacement with the trade deadline behind us.

Usually I only dicipline a player for game misconducts. Only had one player get upset because of it. I soon traded his uppity butt away. :D

Something new I found about this topic while fooling around.

Orpik got 3 minor calls in a game. I didn't like it so I was looking at the dicipline page. At the end, I gave him a warning on --unprofessional behaviour--. I was fully expecting him to cry foul, but he didn't. He accepted the warning without comment.

Next game, he got 1 minor and a 6. I guess it didn't help him much. But I do find it interesting that unprofessional behaviour can be used on getting too many minor calls.

Interesting stuff you found, vissia... On my side, i still wonder what "violent behaviour" is made for :-? Maybe for guys who end up fighting while they're not allowed to do so? :dunno:

I'm coaching the Boston Bruins and I had Patrice Bergeron rated 4 in a game at the last month of the regular season so I was really dissapointed by his performance and decided to discipline him for poor performance and it turned that he was upset and wanted to be trade. :(

So I wasn't really proud of myself having to trade one of my best prospect in the team!

Then I decided to wait all the off season before trying to trade him and finally during or just before (don't remember) the training camp, he was sudenly ok and didn't want to be trade anymore!

I guess sometimes we GM need to be more patient! ;)

i mostly warn my players for bad games but for things like violent behaviour he will get instant 2 week wage discipline.

I've only seen it in lower leagues (NA) and some of the euro ones. It's actually for violent behaviour ala Chris Simon.

Hey Shad666, I find the "Violent Behaviour" diciplination to be, as said, more like Chris Simon-esque. I've handed fines for this when my player went nuts after a misconduct and tried to slash the referee (it happens), and when a guy gets a game misconduct for elbowing/boarding/clipping/cross checking, for example.

I will discipline my players when they have reached at least three 5's in a row or lower. They always accept it. It’s ok to have a player have one bad night once in a while thats normal but if it goes on then I will hand out slaps on the wrist and then a possible trade.

Thanks pinheirobcp for the violent behaviour stuff

As for disciplining a rating of 5, i don't let so much in a row, but don't automatically discipline a 5 either. When a guy gets a 5, i look at his stats for the game. If it's really that horrible, he gets a warning. Else, i consider it as a 6 (bad game, but an acceptable one that can occur from time to time).

A 4 gives an automatic sanction, maybe even a fine if the guy was that catastrophic.

3 and under: automatic fine, no matter what.

I was just wondering, if the players react better to warnings and fines if you're consistent wit the thing? Like if in my team Vermette is playing poorly, say rated 5 or under itn three consecutive games, and i just let slide without warning him and later on in the season Eaves hits a sucky streak like that and i warn him, is Eaves going to get widdled with a higher probability?
I'm just asking because i myself rarely discipline my players with warnings or fines, i'm more of a cut-the-lazy-bum's-icetime- kind of a guy.

rottamies, I find the players acceptance of fines to be more related to his personality, i.e. professionalism/loyalty/temperament.

Hasek's regen, for example, in all my games he has been a whinny little girl who demands rich contracts and gets unhappy if he sits a game, in the middle of the playoffs. Not to mention fines.

It is an interesting subject, though. However, pessimist as I may sound, something like that (the player actually seeing a pattern and thus accepting a fine) seems like something too evolved for this game (o any other game, for that matter).

I just had Richard Hargreeves quit the team the day after he was given a warning for poor performance after showing up out of shape and having only 5 assists in 22 games.

Wow!

Sorry for digging up such an old thread... but my question is directly related to this.

I'm playing for Vasteras in the Allsvenskan. We're two points out of first place, and are hoping to make a splash in this years promotion tourney. But it seems like some of my players aren't on board. I had a Norwegian skip practice on me, and then put up a 4 the following game. I'm trying to create a atmosphere with this club, and so I slapped him with a one-week fine. He asked to be traded, so I bought out his contact. I thought this was all behind me until my back-up goaltender, whom my coach seems eager to play recently, decided to skip practice.

So what do you guys do when you have players skip practice? And how do the players react to your penalty?

Well if you read this topic thoroughly you'll find that there really is no one answer to this question. Some say it depends on some mental attribute(/s), your consistency in fining etc. I also think it has something do with your reputation (how you succeed etc) against the players reputation. Or which of you just happens to have a bigger ego :dunno: In my current game with Ducks I've had great success, most of my players think I'm extremely competent so I've even had the guts to warn big stars like Getzlaf or Perry after just one 5 or 6 game. But I thought it was fair since I expect them to lead the team on every game and they constantly but ratings between eight and ten. And they all have accepted their fines with no complaint and have promised to give more effort (or whatever they say in the game). Then again if I've done my own job poorly in some games then the players don't really listen to me and they just want out if I start warning or fining them. And it makes sense to me. If you'r boss sucks at his job, why would you listen to him?

And this is all just speculation on my part. But to answer your question: If your employee doesn't show up at work then of course you have to react somehow. I usually start with a warning if it's his first time and after that fine him. He might be unhappy or he might suck it up and do better. Whatever you do, be consistent about it.

EDIT: And right after writing this I had to give a warning to Evgeny Loginov for not showing up at the practice and he became unhappy :** He forgot all about it after a month or so but I still traded him right after the playoffs. I don't need no divas in my team

I've had no real success disciplining players. THe most effective ones have been warning players after they receive suspensions from the league and before I appeal. ALl I've accomplished with warnings for poor performance + Penalties is widdling off my team. As a result, I haven't even attempted to discipline any player in the last few years and things have gone alright as far as I'm concerned. maybe if the team goes on a huge losing streak I'll look for a 3rd/4th liner that's had a run of terrible games and warn him, if things go south I can just ship that guy out...but I'd rather not take that chance on any of the players I'd like to have for at least a couple years.

I imagine there's no way the game can see the consistency in your discipline right? :-k just seems too complex for a sim game imo.

Does your locker room atmosphere effect stuff like this at all? As in, when I have a high % of players referencing the team has a good locker room atmosphere do I just assume my "leadership group" if you will takes care of the team? IE, I don't need to police them, because they are doing a good job of policing themselves. I hate to discipline players for a few games of low ratings, especially when it's a player that doesn't get a lot of minutes or play with skilled players. and mainly, I just hate upsetting players and needing to deal with roster issues when my team appears to be just fine without me lurking around the corner looking for reasons to discipline players.
