You can do alot of things in the extra_config file - injuries, retirements, future transfers etc. You can also change the salary cap in the transfer_rules_ config file. How to do it is described in those files.

If you mean the salary cap, then see Lidas' post above yours.

are you going to update the attributes?

Yes we are. It's been two seasons since the original rosters that came with EHM - a lot has changed since then.

I have already raised the salary cap to $56.7m but the maximum player salary is still on $7.8m/y.
This season will the maximum player salary (that maximum a player can earn) be $11.34m IRL.. Someone who know if I can change it!?

any idea when the update will be released? I'm itching to play it already

I'm sure it won't be for a while. Even if a TON of work wasn't involved, the 08/09 rosters won't be set until October (when the NHL season starts) probably.

Just wondering about this - have you changed it from your original plan of only updating prospects? It sounds like you've decided to tweak some...erm...non-prospect(?) players as well?
If this is so, maybe we could create a topic for people to post the players they'd most like to see changed? For me, Braydon Cobourn springs to mind as, in real life, he is pretty darn good already and is only going to get better, whereas the game thinks he's pretty awful. Also, Andrew Ladd is overrated ingame in my opinion- he often goes halfway through round one in my fantasy drafts, which would clearly never happen. I'm sure there are a couple of others.
Not to sound like a moaning old git - I'll leave that to the master, batdad

- I am quite happy to play with the current attribute set, although the realism isn't totally there. I'd like to make attribute changes myself but living in England I don't see enough NHL hockey to rate anyone's individual stats accurately.
Good luck on the editing, it's truly appreciated

Not likely to happen.
The problem with this method is that you can never know if the proposed changes really make sense or not, as you can rarely know how much you can rely on the posters for those matters. Then of course, some players are obviously over/under rated in the game. No problem with them, they'll be corrected. But if we make an open thread for anyone, we'll see suggestions of changes that sometimes make sense, sometimes not. Therefore everything would have to be checked before being - or not - changed in the DB. Plus, user X may think that player Y deserves a 12 in an attribute, while user Z thinks this same player deserves a 17. It would be a never-ending battle of non-experts, so there's nothing good out of it.
It would be different if we were on a board where most if not all of the users were professional scouts with a deep and solid hockey knowledge acquired over decades of scouting. But we're not professional scouts, "just" hockey fans.
Anyhow, no matter how we make the attribute changes, we know there will be some people to crictize them. And we know it won't be 100% accurate (how could it be?). But we'll do our best to give the players something close enough to their real talent, ie no Brodeur-like Niittymäki, no Marleau-superstar, no God-of-grind Dingman, no Pascal Leclaire barely a backup, no AHLer Coburn, etc etc etc. If we can just give them a
globaly appropriate value, we'll be happy. It would be a win in terms of realism, and that's the most essential thing. Then, if player X ends up with a pokecheck of 14 and a checking of 16 while everyone think he should have 15 in both, honestly, we don't care that much... Why? Because it's impossible to know exactly who speaks the truth for such close numbers.

I understand completely.
The idea of having a seperate topic for it was just off the top of my head - as long as the roster update people can adjust it to their own opinions then I'll be happy with the results. I couldn't care less about total accuracy, just slightly more likeness to life for a couple of players would be good. I trust you people a lot more than I trust myself to judge these things

.
How thoroughly will you all be editing attributes? Just picking the badly represented players and picking a couple of necessary stats that are badly off, or what? I would guess a lot more attention will be paid to getting all the transfers done, and rightly so - that is the whole point of a roster update.
I wish I could help in any way but I can't think of one. Unless you want me to do any age modification for some of the players? That's about within my skill level haha.
Again, great work guys

The database will be based on the work done by kidhander over at another board (the breakaway.net). Many of the attribute changes for existing players are already done based on that. So...for players already out there, the concentration will be on
1. aging them
2. getting them in the right place.
Then there are players that are not in the game so we are working on getting them in there. I say we...I mean the roster guys, especially Lidas.
Age mod is currently in a situation where it is over 1/2 complete. Thanks for the offer though.

Sounds awesome, you guys are really fast!
Are there still missing players in the game? I'm sure that there are some players, but I guess not many? (Because the guys on TBN work on the UDB for quite a long time and added a bunch of missing players already)

Tons....because the TBN guys have not done much with the young kids in North America who have
1. Just moved into junior or are going to.
2. The original db missed alot of kids who have developed in the last 2 seasons in junior or below. So they have to be added in. There are many. Many many.
3. Junior draft player prospects--will be looked at and added in as well, so there are some now 15 year old prospects who were not in the game because were only 12 or so when game was made!!!
Should help game sustainability. Not sure how deep the guys will go with this, but there are alot of missing players especially between the ages of 15-20

this may be a silly question, concerning this but I will ask... Is there a scouting source (a book, a website, etc)that could be used to help setting the values.. such as some sort of scouting guide.... or maybe a way might be a mathmatic way of comparing player performance to current EMH number and changing them that way??

We have it covered with
1. some math
2. some sources.
I am not aware of the sources as I am not paying that much attention, but I know the boys are working on it.

Maybe, I think that the main focus laid on the European players, since the most guys of the TBN team are Europeans (I know that because I'm a member on TBN myself)

The roster update is going to be very different from the TBL 07/08 update last year. This is because it was based on the original EHM data whereas this year we are basing the update on Kidhander's Unfaking DB (which includes updated attributes). Also, I imagine the number of attributes that will be tweaked will mean that suggestions for attribute changes based on the original database could be irrelevant. The best time to allow users to give opinions on attribute tweaks will be when we release the beta for Lidas' 08/09 update as you will be able to make form more relevant opinions.
The update should involve a major overhaul of talent. I'm working on the NCAA (it looks like there will be several hundred new players for the NCAA) at the moment and will then move on to the the OHL. We have Falkky doing the QMJHL (he's added 500 new players so far) and SteveBonus might be doing the WHL. Add this to all of the other users helping out and I think we should have a comprehensive update (Lidas is doing a
phenomenal job). It's a lot of work but hopefully we will have the most important parts complete for the start of the new season. I imagine the rest will be done as soon after that as we can. Obviously we have real lives too, so we're clearly not working on it 24/7!

Well, except you. You're just a DB-editing machine - much like Devils88 is a graphics machine

This sounds very good, well done to everyone involved.

A couple of questions:
So the rosters and attributes will be perfectly up to date and it will be essentially the 08-09 season played in EHM as the 06-07 season? What about the drafts - will Kane be with the Hawks and Stamkos with the Lightning already or will they have to be drafted?
Keep up the good work I'm looking forward to it.
