We got it! We got about 12" of it. I drove home from the hospital, got clothes for my wife and I, plus my shovel, and drove back to the hospital before the storm hit. Then Sunday morning I went out to the parking lot and shoveled my minivan out. What a mess! Looks like we might be spending Christmas in the hospital too.

Great work on the header, Brian! It really does give this place a nice holiday feel.

How can snow create such a havoc everywhere? Even here they got some problems despite being used to the snow.

We get snow every winter where I live yet there are always problems. A lot of it is caused by one of the two extremes. You have people that are too slow and too cautious due to the weather and they slow traffic down to a crawl. This makes a commute that would normally take only 20 minutes take over an hour instead. Then you have the opposite extreme where you've got people that think that just because they have 4 wheel drive, they can drive fast without having problems. These people are then getting into accidents. Also, it amazes me how people can live in a cold weather region and not know how to drive in the snow. You should know how to recover from fish-tailing. You should know to to brake and accelerate properly in the snow. You should know how to pull out of a parking spot when you've been snowed in (don't just push the gas pedal and let the wheels spin, you need to rock back and forth).

Another problem we've had around here is that in the city (Boston and some surrounding areas), there is no place to put the snow. The plows go around and try to clear the snow but they don't have any place to put it. At least the suburbs usually has a big field or empty lot they can push it all to. There's also issues with funds allocated for plowing. Sometimes they run out of money and can't hire as many people to plow.

Southern Ontario has no snow still.... We have like a light light fall that won't stay on the ground. This is backwards.

That is a very good point...with a yellow tinge. But she is from my province and was discovered in my city..so when I think of our mountains I think of Pamela and Anderson.

We got a lot more snow than that in the south east of England. I believe we got between 10-20cm. It fell on Thursday night but it's been so cold that it hasn't thawed and has instead turned into ice. The road and pavement outside of my flat is one giant sheet of ice - nobody can go anywhere.

Seeing as others are posting pics of their snow, here is a pic I took last Friday after the snow had fallen:



Thankfully most of it has thawed out now. There is still some ice around but it's now safe enough to venture outside!

It will be dark out when I get home tonight but I'll see if I can get a picture of the snow around my house. I stopped home briefly after work last night and my landlord had plowed the driveway and cleared a path to my door but my wife's car was still snowed in (I hadn't been home during the day since the storm, so I hadn't been able to shovel).

Most of the snow around my village has gone. Although the mountains surrounding my village are still covered in snow.

Japanese Christmas is so boring... no snow, and it's not even cold. Here, it's not a family thing at all, it's more like a romantic time for couples.

And on top of everything, I have to work - for the 4th consecutive christmas. Cant wait to get back to Sweden again (I'm moving back next year).

But when I was on my way home last thursday it took me about 2 hours instead of a half hour as it use to thanks to cancelled buses.

Be glad thst you don't live in Västmanland county, VL got the worst stats of any buss company in Sweden.

How long have you lived in Japan? You must be excited to get back home to Sweden.

I don't know know the next time I'll be home during the daylight to get a picture of the snow here. I don't think any of it is melted though. It's been so cold every day since the snowstorm.

Well, it looks like I'll be spending Christmas at the hospital. I stayed home last night to have some time with my dog. I'll be doing that again tonight. Then I'm heading back to the hospital to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with my wife at the hospital. Maybe I'll be lucky and my sons will be born tonight so we can have them for the holiday?

Hate to say that, but I'm afraid your wife will have to stay in hospital with babies for 4-5 days after C-section.

I live in Jyväskylä and amount of snow is probably, same as in Varkaus. I Can't wait i can play hockey in outdoor rink in Tikkakoski, which is 4 km from my house. They have started to ice that rink, but maybe it's ready in early january.

Ohhh yeah we finally have snow! Only like 1 cm of it... less actually. But still, snow is snow

No, but the snow and snowflakes are all around I wasn't able to visit EHM during holidays as often as I'd like to, so I missed the picture a bit.
