You'll be selecting, or "keeping", 10 players from your new team, and these 10 players will be protected on your roster through the draft. Everyone else will be put back into the draft pool, free to be drafted on draft day.

It's kind of like the old NHL waiver draft, where they'd select X amount of players to protect, and these guys couldn't be picked by anyone else.

Heads up everyone!
Keeper deadline is on Sunday. The draft is another week away. I'm looking forward to an exciting season!

Commish', can you send out word to all GMs to call in and set their keepers so we won't have any missing teams when we start?

Oh, I've totally missed that this thread went active again so I missed the voting but thanks for the Calder (it was expected ;) )

I vote for keeping the stats as they are, 10 keepers and lowering the acquisitions even if they were how I got success last season. Do we have to pick 10 keepers? I think that's a good choice.

I got some very difficult decisions to make with the keepers. I want all my goalies (Dubnyk, Rinne and Bryz) but I have to choose between Bryz and Rinne. Bryz is a gamble as he switched team but is more proven, Rinne should be a safe pick but dunno if he will be as good as last season?

You are as annoying as Burke for snapping Jagr.
I got Fleischmann atleast! :D

I'm looking to trade Bryzgalov, a potential Vezina winner when joining the Flyers. A true forward upgrade (a center wouldn't hurt) or an upgrade from Suter is what I'm looking for.

Man didn't even give me a chance to accept the deal.

Hey, I had two offers out as I wanted the trade done as quickly as possible but I honestly wanted Lucic more. A steal for Concussion for sure and I hope that Zetterberg overperformes.

Just out of curiosity, how much interest, exactly, do we have this year in fantasy hockey?

There were several teams in both leagues that didn't meet the keeper deadline, a few teams in the OHL aren't filled yet, and there doesn't seem to be much interest from outside to fill the spots. I'm not sure how ESPN handles odd teams, or if it even allows it, but either way some shrinking may be required in the OHL (which already a smaller and quieter league) just to start the season.

So, I'm curious how many of us are actually interested in playing this year? Should we steam ahead and make do with what we have, or should we give fantasy hockey a rest for a bit?

And don't worry about hurting my feelings, either, it's just fantasy hockey :-p

I am still in. I may not be as active this year, just due to schedule, but I won't be dead either. At least not as dead as that archibalduk uk team was.

I think there are alot of guys who have been quiet over the summer, and that is a problem. THey seem to peek in here when an email about the league came out.

I know there are at least half the owners from Minstrel who have been in here recently and said something. But not sure about the other league.

I think we should have an email out to the members and do a check in for both leagues. May just be they are waiting for the draft....

I was out of town this weekend and missed the keeper deadline. As a result Alex Ovechkin is NOT a keeper on my team! Neither is Miikka Kiprusoff or Jonathon Toews... Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Unfortunately, there's not much I can do. The deadline was in place and known for quite a while, but there were a number of teams who didn't meet the deadline. As a result, I had to manually (and randomly) edit keepers through the back door for all of these teams.

While I could technically go back and fix these automatic selections, I'd prefer not to set a precedent where the deadline can be missed or ignored, but still get one's desired keepers through the back door.

If it's any consolation, I believe your team (HC Franzen) has the first pick in the draft, so you should be able to at least get Ovechkin back

That explains why Ovechkin wasn't kept. I was looking forward to having a chance to pick him. He helped me finish second in Octavian and he will probably be a man possessed this year.

Guys...I think we should have a vote on this as members of the league. I don\t want to set a precedent either. But I think we should be able to make it so it is fair. Managers should be able to list here who they were going to put in as keepers, and we should be voting in each case whether to allow that person to have a keeper.

This way....should be fair. Punishment could occur..for being stupid, but at the same time, most of the person's keepers would be taken care of for that person...

Example:

Someone forgets to select keepers that they want. Not someone who selected all 10, then wants to change their mind. Too bad.

Lets say someone only had 6 keepers selected, and forgot to select 4...(IE Rule change late into process, like this season)

there was a ton of warning. Should be able to get to it, but if did not...

The four forgotten...vote on each one. Lets say using my team:
Carter
Marleau
Visnovsky
Luongo

We could say to this person...okay you can keep 3 of those 4, but the fourth one...too bad...going to have to draft a player. Lose one guy that you wanted. Rest of players vote. The top three vote getters are manually selected as keepers after a 24 hour voting period...4th goes into the draft. Manager does not get to draft that guy 1st. Player slots in to wherever he does in the draft. So a harsh punishment would be to strip me of Luongo but let Visnovsky, Marleau and Carter stay with me. Get the idea?

Could do the same here with forgetting OVenchicken and whoever else. Give us the 4 names you forgot to select, and we go from there. But I don't know. I feel bad for you...but this is a keeper league and even with this rule change, I cannot believe you would not have OVenchicken in your top 6 keepers and got messed up by the rule change. Some sort of ding for screwing up should be there. Why?

1. Everyone knows this is a keeper league. Right from the get go.
2. Stinson sent out several notices about the keepers needing to be set, both here and on ESPN site, and in emails. (Stinson not responsible if you are not checking those)
3. Even with the changes, a guy like Ovenchicken is a no brainer keeper. I usually have mine set in June before the season ends, and only adjust through trades if need to.

Bah. ramble ramble. What I am saying...must be some form of discipline here...not sure what it is. Maybe the player has to release whoever he drafts in say the 2nd round...and that player is left untouched for 2-3 weeks in the Free Agent section (cannot be chosen by anyone). Then whoever is in last place after 3 weeks gets a crack at that player on waivers...and go through the league to pick up. That would have to be done here....not on the ESPN site.

No way should he just be allowed to add in Ovechkin again, without some absolutely stone clad reason (ie living in a cave for he last full year) and not suffer some kind of loss.

I think my idea of releasing 2nd round pick, and then doing a waiver type thing 2-3 weeks in (not the ESPN waivers but whoever is in last place gets first crack etc--here not on ESPN) is a fair one. Could be third rounder...not including set keepers. Sure timmy then gets Ovenchicken back....but loses a substantial part of his team. The pick cannot be just a throwaway guy. Cannot take a scrub with the pick....and then release him. Should be someone in ESPN rankings near where the pick was taken. Guys get the picture? Keep Ovechkin or forfeit a pick.

Read it. You need to post what has happened here. I think it is only fair to Stinson...I don't think in a case like this he should be left to make the decision on his own. He should be able to have the league members have all the info at hand. As I said in my note back to you I understand what is up. However, i still believe something needs to be done in order to keep Stinson from having a thousand issues in the future. SOme form of rule needs to be made. HOwever...I do not believe you should be forced to lose all of those strong players. Ovi, Kipper, Toews, Weber. But some point needs to be made. IE making you give up one of those four, and select one of your other players as a keeper. My thought is the third highest Fantasy point getter from last year (it would be Kiprusoff in your case using the Fantasy points calculator), or a league vote on who should go from your roster of preferred keepers. Then you choose who your keepers would be, and Stinson inputs manually. But you lose the one guy.
