Hi I was aware of Belfast having 11 and have seen teams in the past 'deregsiter' an injured player and register a replacement player. I heard that if they were deregistered they could not be played for 2 weeks after though such an instance usually only occurs if there is an injury that lasts at least that long though that was just rumour. My only real concern was how the game would react to the limit could the AI end up signing say 18 imports and have non budget left for decent brits. Maybe allow teams to carry 1 extra import like Belfast have would keep things steady. As for the rosters you are probably right though I cannot remember teams carrying more than 20 players even 20 is rare. Fife are giving a lot of young players a chance before deciding how much to invest in imports and how many. Elite teams in the most part play 3 line hockey certainly at D and in most cases in the Forwards. What is the situation with Wage caps there has been specualtion that there is no longer a wage cap though in the past it was never really enforced. Reputations of teams is probably the key though as I would probably say Nottingham, Belfast and Sheffield in the top tier, Braehead, Cardiff, Coventry slightly below that, Hull and Dundee just a bit below that with Edinburgh and Fife just behind. From seeing the league in game over a few seasons if GMing in that league or not it just seems to be not too much differnece between teams and anyone can win the league. I would say that top 3 are usually contender the next level of clubs could do it with a bit of work. The likes of Dundee and Hull would be diffucult to win a league but maybe break into the top half, Edinburgh and Fife would be having a great season to get in the playoffs certainly Edinburgh would be Fife could probably be similar to Hull and Dundee once they get established. Anyway I digress and here is more about the structure of the league but in some cases artistic licence may be required to try and similate how the league works to get realistic outcomes and make some real challenges.

P.S. I attended a challenge cup game on Saturday that ended a draw and no O.T so have edited my original post to take this into account.

The IIHF European Champions Cup is long defunct; so is its replacement, the Champions Hockey League. I suppose we can thus just leave it as it is... or craft it into something at our liking.

I highly doubt we can change this, so for now the ECC is not a bad variant

Slovenian League has become almost totally amateurish as our best two teams are now playing the Austrian EBEL league. Swiss league and expanded Austrian league would be awesome.

Problem with using the Slovenian League for that is that it's too small to accomodate the full NLA and there's no promotion/relegation, nor a way to play the NLB as well.

I'd rather use it for the Italian Serie A.

True. And there is still the defunct Inter Liga as a part of the Slovenian League which may be somehow linked to the main league. another problem is the extremely small number of games per season in Slovenian League....

Playoffs
The Norwegian Ice Hockey Championship, or playoffs, is contested by the eight best teams in the league following the conclusion of the regular season. There are three rounds, each played as a best-of-seven series; the winner advances to the next round, while the loser is eliminated from the tournament. In the first round, or quarter-finals, the highest seed chooses which of the two lowest seeds to be matched against. The highest remaining seed then chooses between the two lowest remaining seeds until all teams have an opponent. In the second round, or semi-finals, the teams are re-seeded, with the highest remaining seed again being allowed to choose which of the two lowest remaining seeds to play against. The remaining teams pair off in the other semi-final, and the winner of each series advances to the finals.
In each round the higher-ranked team is said to be the team with the home ice advantage. Four of the seven games are played at this team's home venue—the first and third, and, when necessary, the fifth and seventh games—with the other games played at the lower-ranked team's home venue. In the finals, the team with the most points during the regular season is given home-ice advantage.

I would go for 8-9 foreigners allowed per game per team and double check for all Croatian double citizenship players.

After lurking for quite some time now, I thought I'd chime in with the DEL-setup.

League name: Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL)
Number of teams: <no change>
No. of regular season games played: <no change>
Two-line pass rule: <no change>
Icing rule: <no change>
Overtime rule: <no change>
Shoot-out rule: now 3 shooters instead of 5
Maximum players on roster: <no change>
Maximum foreigners on roster: <no change>
Maximum foreigners dressed: 10, going to be 9 from 2012/13 on

in addition to that:
- can only dress 21 players per game
- minimum of 3 players on the roster who can play for Germany and are born after 31.12.1984 (U26 rule ; going to be 2 U20 players from 2012/13 on)
- maximum of 18 players dressed who are either foreigners or don't fall under the U26-rule
- Wolfsburg and München (both 2nd tier) have replaced Frankfurt and Duisburg in the DEL.

You are correct in that the number of teams is nine but wrong on the other. Teams will this season be allowed to dress 18 players(maybe you meant 16 skaters, but there is also the two goalies)
There is also a limit on the number of veterans allowed to be signed. I'll see if I can dig up the exact numbers
Also, any player that plays in Europe after January 1st are deemed ineligible to play for the rest of that season in the SPHL

I am in complete agreement that the Swiss NLA should be added as a playable league. I'm currently doing some extensive work for Manimal on the rating and re-rating of all players and staff in NLA/NLB as well as 1.liga and Swiss U20. It is, apparently, the most attended European hockey league.

Cheers!

Russian SuperLeague

League name: Kontinental Hockey League (KHL)
Number of teams: 24 minus Lokomotiv Yaroslavl who wont be a part of the 2011/2012 season. 19 Teams Russia. 1 Team Kazakhstan. 1 Team Belarus. 1 Team Latvia. 1 Team Slovakia. Noteble is the expansion for the 2012/2013 and the 2013/2014 season. Torpedo Leipzig (Germany) 2012 HC Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) 2012 Hockey Milano Rossoblu (Italy) 2012 HC Vladivostok (Russia) 2013 HC Sochi (Russia) 2013 HC Donbass (Ukraine) 2013 HC Berkyt (Ukraine) 2013 Yunost Minsk (Belarus) 2013 Vėtra Vilnius (Lithuania) 2013 Now the KHL is pretty fast to talk about new teams and expansions and then they dont happen so this is ofcourse not 100 %.
No. of regular season games played: 56
Two-line pass rule: not used
Icing rule: touch
Overtime rule: 4 on 4 5 min
Shoot-out rule: 3 way as per NHL
Maximum players on roster: no limit,
Maximum foreigners on roster: 5
Maximum foreigners dressed: 5

16 teams to playoff. The league has 2 conferences (eastern and western) and 4 divisions (Chernyshev, Kharlamov, Tarasov, Bobrov)
Chernyshev: (Eastern conference: Barys Astana, Amur Khabarovsk, Metallurg Novokuznetsk, Sibir Novosibirsk, Avangard Omsk, Salavat Yulaev Ufa)
Kharlamov: (Eastern conference: Traktor Chelyabinsk, Ak Bars Kazan, Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg)
Tarasov: (Western conference: Vityaz Chekhov, Severstal Cherepovets, Dynamo Minsk, Atlant Mytishchi, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl)
Bobrov: (Western conference: CSKA Moscow, OHK Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Lev Poprad, Dinamo Riga, SKA Saint Petersburg)
All playoff rounds are best of 7.
The foreign rule is a bit tricky. All the russian teams seems to go by the rule of 5 foreign players while the teams from Latvia, Slovakia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have and uses a lot more foreign players then 5.
