Yeps, just saw it.....terrible trade IMHO!!!
Ward will earn 2,75 mill next next year. Mara was at 3.0 mill this year, but Iam not sure if he is UFA this summer.
I dont get it!!!
First we trade Jurcina away for a 4th round!!! Who is terrible comparing how he's playing now....and he's only 24 years old!!!
Now we trade away Mara for Ward and nothing more???? C'mon!! Everybody else gets first and second rounds for Dmen and Chia isnt cabaple (sp) of getting something worthy in return!!!!
I really hope Chiarelli is up to something....because if not.....

Yeah, TSN is listing the Bertuzzi to Detroit as "pending conference call with league".

				Bertuuuuuuzziiiii!
Excellent deal. Could be high reward for a good price.

Yeah it sure could. Scary one even. If he actually shows up to play. He has a bit of a habit of not doing that. I wonder how Chelly feels about it. They do not exactly get along. If Todd can play, shows up to play, and keeps his mouth shut in the dressing room he could help alot. If he is Todd....he could help Vancouver, Nashville, San Jose, Calgary and Anaheim alot. Low risk (what you gave up), high risk in terms of what you got, could be high reward. A good gamble for a team like the WIngs.

What I'm reading say is Florida gets a prospect and a pick for Bert but it's all conditional until they speak with the league. I don't know what that's all about.

The league has to approve every deal before it is consumated. The news guys are just hearing about the trades before the NHL stamps em as okay. Salary Cap issues, what is being dealt, are the terms of the trade contractually legal, etc.
ETA: YAnnic Perrault to Toronto...Sportsnet.

Yanic Perrault to TOR for Bell and a 2nd.
AND Zubrus and a prospect to BUF for a 1st and Novotny.

I still find it a bit odd that this is the only deal they label as "pending conference call with league". Every other deal just has "TBA" if they don't know the return.

A good prospect and a 2nd to win some faceoffs? Not worth it IMO. Perrrault will win faceoffs out the wazoo, but he can't contribute much offense and he's a bit of a liability down low on D. Plus, he's slow. He'll fit right in with the slow and defensively poopy Laffs.
Also, kinda cool....The Bertuzzi deal includes a conditional pick that's based on how well DET does in the playoffs and how well Bert plays. They're saying that if DET goes deep and Bert is a top scorer the pick is a 1st. If not, much less. Also, FLA will recieve a 2nd if Bert re-signs in the DET. Cool deal, IMO.
Cheers.

Bah...Leafs clearly had too many draft picks they have not traded away. Needed to unload another one. And of course, a prospect? Why would they want a prospect. How many times will the Leafs pick up Perreault...such garbage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the Wings just acquire Buruzzi =O. I wasn't to happy about the Calder deal because I like Williams, but then I looked at his stats this year and =O was an ok deal I guess. I hate Bertuzzi, but I could handle him as long as the Wings don't dish out much for him and he quits hurting his back.

I read it, just wasn't sure if "taking a gamble" on him meant we acquired him. Maybe I read to quickly. Sorry though

Dallias acquires Norstrom from the Kings.
*Edit* Gord Miller said that a neutral team informed him Ryan Smyth was dealt to the Islanders, they are trying to confirm.

Jesus..Sportsnet Has Ryan Smyth as an Islander, For Robert Nilsson Ryan O'mara and a 1st. HOLY CRAPOLY
Now what is gonna happen when they raise Messier's banner. Principe in Edmonton says confirmed the trade with Ryan Smyth. Oh my god! Riots in Edmonton for sure.

TSN is saying that a GM not involved in the deal, says that Ryan Smyth has been dealth to the Islanders. TSN is working right now to confirm it.

That's good for the Oilers to get back.
Avalanche bring home Scott Parker from the Sharks for TBA
PS: batdad, I wasn't trying to undermine the Canucks as a whole. Never disregarding how the team was only lost three regulation games since December, I only meant that if the wrong players go cold again in the playoffs then a team that's ready will take them out. That notwithstanding, they are one of the best bets out of the West. When I mentioned Bieksa tailing off, before the last few games (He's played good) he hadn't scored a goal since before Christmas and hadn't gotten a point in almost a month. He's certainly exceeding expectations, which I said to begin with, since he's on pace for a 43 point season. I think he's only going to get better, which is awesome for you guys. This includes his defensive game, which while responsible I do think he makes too many mistakes. Maybe he wouldn't get as many minutes, considering their depth ends with Rory Misspatrick at 5th (Before the Sopel deal), Lukas Krajicek and his amazing -15, or a rotating group of AHLers.

:shock::shock::shock::shock:
And the Isles make the playoffs....
Tough for the Oil fans to stomach for sure, but Lowe did what he had to do. Sure, they could have signed him in the offseason...but at the time they didn't want to commit 5+mil for 4-5 years. Now it bites them in the butt...but he did get good return - O'Marra and Nillson are 1st round picks - so estentially three 1st rounders for Smyth. That trade would go down in EHM for sure.

Smooth moves by Garth Snow - I didn't think he had it in him to be honest.

And tomorrow Charles Wang calls a press conference to annouce the signing of Smyth to a 10 year contract.

Cheers.

Ten years if he signs him on the spot, 20 years if he waits until closer to the Summer

The Oil fans will hate the loss to begin with, but as well the idea that Captain Canada is going to be playing in the States. I mentioned that possibility on another forum, it wasn't received well
