For screenshots I use http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ , with that you wont have to paste it somewhere.

As for your other question the search-function on the forums will bring you the answer.

Reputation have any effect on the UFA tier or not, seems to be somewhat unclear?

My post was chopped off in half, I never seen that before.
I don't see Reputation in the rules for UFA's. Does Reputation have any effect on the UFA tier or not, seems to be somewhat unclear?

No, it does not. Age and cap hit is the things to go by.

Hmm.. For some reason I seem to recall that we could only sign guys of certain reputation over age 24. This was to avoid things like B72 and I talked about in the other thread...where Luongo sits out a year and then gets signed for $500k or whatever. I think there is something in there about players being at Max Very Good or Good rep when you sign them depending on the tier.

I know it says something about very good somewhere, that's why I asked, but it says nothing more about it. I had to ask since almost all the UFA's I want is cheap, but after season two most of the guys got a very good reputation.

Have it been more clear in earlier versions of the rules?

Should I stick to "Good" players for the second tier?

About a Luongo-esque situation people who wants to cheat will find ways to do so but it looks like everyone plays by the rules and good manners.

Reputation used to be a factor in the UFA Pyramid in an earlier version of the rules. You used to be able to sign UFAs to higher contract amounts and the contracts were based on the player's reputation. For example, Tier 1 was Superb or Star players with a contract between $3M - $4.5M. Then Tier 2 allowed for a Very Good and a Good player and had contract values for them. And then Tier 3 allowed you to sign 3 players with up to Good rep for what amounted to the league minimum salary or close to it.

Since we dramatically dropped the UFA signing amounts, we also decided to drop the restrictions on reputation. We figured that the $2M max salary would keep things where we wanted them. But if somebody went out and signed a star player for $2M due to a flaw in the game's AI or some sort of loophole, they should be prepared to be publicly mocked as being a lame exploiter and a cheat.

Hey, I just made a little mistake with the UFA signing. I went with Tier 2 and signed Carcillo and Madden. Carcillos signing is okay but I signed Madden with a one-year contract that has a 538 000$ gap hit. I somehow remembered that the gap hit would be 575 000$ and actually thought of checking it out before finalising the deal with him, but then forgot it. I know I would have gotten him with the 525 000 gap hit too, because his salary is only 510 000. I know it's just a minor fault and perhaps not even worth of mentioning but I still want to go with the rules in the Challenge.

It's a minor difference and you didn't get a huge advantage out of it. We'll let it slide. Just pay close attention in the future.

Dear "hockey-cracks"...

I'm having a minor problem and want to ask a lil question about that:

I drafted a finnish D-men with first-pairing potential but didn't notice that he has no NHL-clause, so I can't sign him until his contract expires --> That would be on April, 29., and i know that prospects must be signed from May to October...

But if he renews his contract and they don't include that NHL-clause once again I won't be able to sign him for a long time,
is it maybe possible to sign him now in August and allowing his change 2 days before the regular prospect signing period!?

Thanks for ur answers...

Sorry, you've got to sign him in that May - October window.

Sure... on traditional calendars!

So what was the original question then? I'm lost. :help:

Yes, of course August is in between May and October :-p , but in the trade window the date of aquisition will be 29. of April, because then his contract with his european team expires.....

But it doesn't matter any more, I just didn't sign him to stick to the rules as I understand them, hopefully I will be able to sign him next year when he has no NTC.... hopefully :-?

If he agrees to the contract in August, you can take a screenshot of the news item where he agrees to the contract. Just save that screenshot in case anyone questions the signing (which is unlikely) It's common with European prospects (even those with NHL release clauses) to not transfer over until a later date.

Ohhh i meant NHL-Clause not no-trade-clause ....

Thanks for that information bruins72, but it's already too late, well the next time i will know it better,

thanks a lot

Here is my real Regular Season stats screen, I accidentally posted Playoff's stats into Stats Recording Threat and can't edit my post anymore.

Oh and I almost forgot, my scoring leader is Horcoff with 91 points as you can see, not Hemsky what i wroted in Stats Recording Tool. Sry 'bout that.

A totally new challenge idea?

I had a quick look and didn't find this idea presented previously, so hopefully this actually is a new idea...

The recent NHL trade deadline gave me the idea of an online trade deadline challenge. I haven't participated in any of the traditional team challenges so I'm not sure if the tools exist to make this practical but I would envision a challenge something like this:

We setup groups of 30 players each, one player for each of the NHL teams per group. We have a no-trade policy up until the trade deadline day of Feb 23. We each sim our game up until the day of the trade deadline and submit our stats to the challenge coordinator. This provides the baseline performance measure of your team in terms of winning percentage. Because the challenge will measure the relative improvement to your winning % after your trades have been made, the overall strength of your team is irrelevant - Washington has no advantage over Edmonton because we will compare each team to itself pre and post trade deadline.

Once all teams have simmed to the deadline we move to the online portion of the challenge. Using MSN or other messenger service, all us would-be GMs engage in a 24hr period of trading with each other. Much like in the real NHL, all trades need to be league (coordinator) approved and a trade number is issued to both players at which time they can manually force the trade using the GM cheat in their games.

At the end of the 24hr online trade window, we again enter a no-trade period and sim another 50 games or so, say until Dec 31st. At this time we again submit our stats and compare the increase/decrease to winning %. The only other thing we need to add is a point system to assess each trade using some combination of players current and potential value and also consider draft picks (I have some ideas here). This trade scoring can then be combined with the winning % change to determine the winning trade deadline GM.

What do you think?

MOD NOTE: This did not need its own thread and it definitely didn't need to go in the announcements forum. Please do a search before starting a new thread. - B72

I'd like to get everyone's feedback on an idea I had for changing the rules on trading in challenges. As you know, we like to keep these challenges challenging. We also like to keep the identity of the team somewhat intact. Even with our current rules on trading, which are fairly restrictive, we're seeing complete overhauls of team but season 4 or 5 in some cases. What I'd like to do is sort of ween everyone off of trading as the progress in seasons. For example, in the current rules, you can't trade in the first season but starting with season two you're allowed one trade (up to 2 players in and 2 players out) per season. What if we were to change that up? For example...

Season 1 - No Trade
Season 2 - 1 Trade (2 in - 2 out)
Season 3 - 1 Trade (1 in - 1 out)
Season 4 - No Trade
Season 5 - 1 Trade (1 in - 1 out)
Season 6 - No Trade
Season 7 - 1 Trade (1 in - 1 out)

Is that too restrictive? If so, how might you adjust it? Let me know what you guys think.
