I love these rosters! one question though: is there a way to manually add some players to Winnipeg / Minnesota / Columbus to help them be a bit more competitive in their first year? I feel like them being at the bottom makes sense but they shouldn't be a free win pretty much.

Yes it's possible. Just look in the forum for different editors.

Hello TBL'ers. I have a little question/poll for you.
What NHL players do you think might deserve a -10 rating (PA 170-200)? -9 comes after that which has a PA of 150-180.
I think I have half of these right now as -10. The rest -9. Just wanted your opinion on the matter.
To make it easier I have some suggestions of players who to pick. Of course if a player isn't there that you think should be please do suggest it.

A few comments/corrections have popped up on the Steam page which I thought I'd mention here in case it is helpful (although he clearly does not like Mike Milbury!):
Mathieu Schneider should be on the Leafs at the beginning of the season. He gets traded to the Rangers for Karpotsev later on in the season. Thanks for the database though
Also, Mike Milbury should have a 1 for Judging Player Ability, Judging Player Potential, and Man Management. He is arguably the worst GM of all time
Also, Kevin Weekes was ony on the Vancouver Canucks after he was traded to them in the Pavel Bure trade

Just a quick question if I may; does this roster pack come with player pictures? And in any case, how would I go about adding pictures so that playing from 1998 to 2008 for example, the well known new draftees would have correct pictures showing too? Thanks!

Lol yeah, those were my comments about Mike Milbury and some of the player transfers. Great db, I appreciate all the hard work you guys put in. If I were to add multiple international leagues to the database, do you think there would be stability issues? Or if I moved the league to a slightly more recent start-date like 2000?

Wondering how playable this roster is with the current game version. Also still wondering about where to get a proper facepack/logopack for this. And also how far the prospect pool reaches, I mean are there real prospects included for the following years from the start and if yes, for how many years. Thanks.

TurboJ.. I just went into the ehm1 editor... The database that I have goes all the way up to 2017 NHL draft so nothing is in the database beyond 2018 IRL

I just started 1998. DB save, it is great and thanks everyone who was working on it. One question, it says DB uses 2006. rules, but there is no European champions cup ? Shouldn't ECC be in the game by default ?

No, unfortunately the game doesn't generate this completion when converting an EHM 2007 DB to EHM 1. So it would have to be created manually.

Is there any chance we see more playable leagues (including ECC) for this DB ? I can't say how much I am enjoying it.

It's a great DB isn't it! Whilst CJ isn't active on here, he did say a while back that he had a newer version. I'll remind him to send it to me.
As for playable leagues - this all depends on whether someone is willing to do the work.

Any news on the newer version of this? It would seem this is one of the most complete retro rosters out there and all the news bits from the last couple of years sound enticing.

New player here, I don't know if this roster set is still maintained, but for the consideration of anyone who curates this amazing roster set in the future, a few miscellaneous things to point out:
-G Manny Fernandez (in DAL's farm system at this point in his career) is in the game twice; his "main" copy is with the Michigan K-Wings, DAL's AHL/IHL affiliate at the time. But there's a second, more generic copy of him ("Emmanuel Fernandez") playing for the Houston Aeros, also in the same league. I suspect this confusion came because the original creators saw his name on the Houston roster that year, when in fact it was the same Manny Fernandez who would eventually back up Belfour in 2000 and play some great hockey with the Wild. He was under loan to Houston to play there in '98-'99, so that Marty Turco could get starts with the K-Wings. The Stars often used Houston as an unofficial tertiary affiliate by loaning players to them individually (Blake Sloan played two seasons of development with them before joining Dallas, and never played a single game for the K-Wings).
-On a related note, Dallas's in-game ECHL affiliate is the Dayton Bombers; HockeyDB lists them as their ECHL affiliate for most of the 90s, but I can't actually find ANYTHING to corroborate this. The Bombers' wikipedia page doesn't mention an affiliation with the Stars at any point, and none of the players in their "NHL alumni" section played for the Stars. (The only connection of any kind between Dallas and the Bombers is that Daryl Reaugh, DAL's color commentator, suffered his career-ending hamstring injury while tending net for the Bombers in '94, ha)
-Jamie Langenbrunner is listed as a natural LW, when in fact he should be listed as a natural RW. He played almost exclusively RW with Nieuwendyk on DAL's second line. The third member of their line was a rotation between LW/RW Verbeek, C/LW Hogue (once he was acquired) and LW Reid.
-D Craig Ludwig is listed as a right-handed, natural RD. He was in fact a lefty and played on the left side, with fellow lefty Shawn Chambers playing RD on his off-side.
Minor issues, to say the least, and easy for users to fix with the editor should they want to play with Dallas (or players who are just super OCD). The creators did amazing work with this DB, I'm having a blast with it.

CJ no longer works on these rosters but he did share an updated version with me a while back. I plan on making some leagues playable with the correct 1998/99 structures before I release it. I'll incorporate your feedback into it.

Awesome to hear that someone is gonna keep the project going! Beyond just being fun to play with, these rosters are a great snapshot of a particularly memorable era of hockey, and a nice little time capsule to have.
One question that you may or may not be able to answer, that I can't seem to google any clarification for — are the "Disable starting financial/wage adjustments" options recommended for the TBL databases? I'm guessing the '98 database predates these options, since they apparently were introduced in 1.5, but I can't figure out if folks tend to use these options, or if they'd even affect anything with the Retro databases, since the financial info is already customized to begin with. I'm thinking it's best to disable them so as not to throw off the way CJ set up the financial stuff?

Good question. Beyond player salaries, the various additional financial information in the 1998DB uses the 2007 default data as these additional settings were not available at the time of EHM 2007 due to the limitations of the EHM 2007 format database. So the values you see on the Financial Information screen of the Editor are 2007-style settings generated by EHM 1 when the DB was converted to EHM 1 format. Seeing as they're default settings, I'm not totally sure whether it's best to enable/disable this setting. For the Pivot/TBL Rosters, where very detailed financial information has been set using the additional Financial Information settings, it is better to disable the adjustments.

Mentioned this in the other thread, but again, thanks for taking the time to reply. That all makes perfect sense.
For what little it's worth as a follow-up, the option doesn't
seem to affect Dallas much (their opening-day roster still about a million over the cap either way, so...yikes. Gonna just edit some cap hits, that seems like the easiest way to handle it). Of course that's just one team in one league, so who knows, but it certainly doesn't look like a make-or-break issue either way. At least, not for North American leagues, and that covers the teams most users would want to control with this DB (aside from perhaps hardcore fans of late-90s/early-aughts Elitserien/Liiga hockey — go Kärpät!)
