Charging nowadays is when you lunge (spelling) your hit upwards and leave your feet.

Also, you are never allowed to hit a goalie, to then hit him in the head with a charging is just brutal.

I don't like that no NYR player went after him but i do understand it, we were on a 5v4 at the time and only had 'skill' players on so say Nash goes after him, then that means we don't have a 5v3 and we are without Nash for 17 minutes (instigator) in a 0-0 game.

nino - I get your view on todays hockey, but as the rules are now this his is very illegal in atleast 3 different ways. Eakin could have easily avoided contact and gone for the puck instead... He could have even just slowed down and bumped Lundqvist a bit and it would have been pretty much fine, instead he actually hit him straight to the head, just a dirty play.

There are scrums in front of the net if you reach for the puck when the goalie is trying to control it. You don't let the other team touch your goalie, period.

When Lucic ran Miller and nobody stood him up immediately, we took it as a sign that our team was not cohesive enough and our players were not willing enough. Some say it was what started the rebuild. In hindsight the hit is really not that bad, Lucic couldn't really do much to avoid the collision and if he really wanted to run Miller it would look way different. But still, you don't let your opponents **** with your goalie, the same way you don't let them **** with your star players.

I'm not a fan of "staged" fighting but in situations like this it still has its place in the game imo.

I somewhat agree with you, but the timing was bad there and then, go after Eakin next time we play might be a better way.

Old time hockey or not. It's a huge hit on a goalie. I don't mind when they get hit when they go outside the net. They're suppose to know the risk IMO but this was a bit too much I think.

Just to clarify my own views (which I think are sometimes misunderstood), when I say "old time hockey" I mean literally and not figuratively - I mean hockey played many years ago (approximately 25+ years) and not what the Hanson brothers meant in the movie Slapshot; I'm not advocating/supporting a dirty/goon playstyle in any way

At the professional level (an important point in my viewpoint), except for the rare blatantly dirty completely non-hockey play there is no "to much" IMO (physical contact is part of hockey, and I think a hitter/hit deserves as much value/credit/opportunity as a scorer or "pretty play" - I do openly admit the ringette style of hockey is not as entertaining to me)

And again, they should have long ago fixed the equipment (hard plastic) issue...

I'm OK with bumping the goalie too, but lunging your shoulder/elbow into the head of the goalie is inexcusable.

For those who are too lazy to search for it. Indeed a very dirty hit.

Pretty sure Eakin will feel something from the Rangers in the upcoming games..

4 games for Eakin, i don't think it's enough at all. The fact that DoPS couldn't even call it a headshot just shows how messed up their definition of a headshot is, joke of a department.

I see on nhl.com "San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for dangerous use of the stick involving Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson" (apparently he speared him)

I can't believe that the maximum is $5,000 - Vlasik makes over $50,000 per game; it's like a "normal person" getting a fine of $20 or less

The fines are a real joke too. In the NFL it can go up to 200 000$ for a fine. Now that's what I'm talking about. A good fine should at least be the amount of money the player earn in one game and could only go up depending on the infraction.

Top 3 players with the highest involvement in their team's offense: McDavid, Karlsson, Ristolainen

2nd pairing tho

I noticed Ristolainen is the only minus player out of those three and 63% of his points come on the PP, compared to 31% for McDavid and 35% for Karlsson; also noticed Ristolainen has been involved in 30.64% of the Sabres scoring in games he's played, and Eichel has been involved in 34.78% of the Sabres scoring in games he's played (and Ristolainen had 9 points in 21 games when Eichel was injured, and has 10 points in the 7 games since Eichel's been back)

Sabres have the worst ES offense in the league, which skews the numbers obviously. He also just scored another OT winner just now so meh, I couldn't care less at the moment :-D

With the team the Sabres had in the last years I wouldn't look at the +/- haha :D Ristolainen is already at -75. It looks like the playes who played for Edmonton in the past 10 years.

The Jackets are still looking good. I can't believe they have that record right now. :D Like CJ said a while ago I wonder if they can keep it up. My first guess will be no since they have always been mediocre.

You couldn't care less about arguments against you, but you come in with a snyde comment about how i'm wrong, seems legit dude.
My argument has always been that he's overmatched 5v5 but good on the PP so better luck next time.
Maybe they have one of the worst ES offense in the league because their #1 D-man is getting detroyed at ES?

You are far from the only person who is completely wrong in the evaluation of Ristolainen.

Oh and last time I checked he was a positive RelCF% player when not playing with arguably the worst defenseman in the league so yea, he doesn't really get overmatched.

Mabe they have the worst ES offense because of the stretch-pass-then-dump-it-in system that Bylsma brought in? Maybe injuries have something to do with it, who knows.

Buffy wins Laine with 0,1 km/h in Winnipeg's hardest shot competition. ;) 163,0 and 162,9.

Laine broke Wellwood's accuracy shooting record with 8,4 seconds.

Where? It still says $5,000.00 on nhl.com https://www.nhl.com/news/marc-edouard-v ... -284773592 but then it also says $8,378.38 here https://www.nhl.com/news/sharks-marc-ed ... g/c-664164

I just know there is far too much discussion in here revolving around a Sabres team that is inarguably not-good, and its players.
