Burke wont match the offer unless the ducks make a trade before 2:05pm today, USA time, otherwise if we resign penner, the ducks will be over the cap limit and will need to make a trade to cut the salary to below $50million, i don't see who the ducks can trade, so i dont think the offer will be matched, but hurry burke, just tell us already!!!

So you and Alex the Tall can both get bonuses :p
yeah, whatever Burkie will do, you'll surely get something to comment/rant/extrapolate on. And I'll be there to read :D

Some rumours about Brisebois coming back to Montreal, I'm not quite sure about this one. I've nothing against Brisebois, he could be a nice vet 5-6 d-man and could play on PP but there's any spot for him?? I'm not sure, I'll prefer giving this spot to a young ones like Coté, Gorges or O'Byrne.

That's my Habs two cents. :D

Burkie didn't match.
Penner off to oil country.

Good move by Anaheim, massive overpayment.

This will upset a lot of people... However, I think that Burke made the right decision. With Getzlaf and Perry eligible to become rfa's next season, he couldn't match the Penner deal as that would set the tone for those negotiations...

Smart move by Burke, IMO. That's an awful lot of money for Penner. Now the Ducks just have to hope to for the Oil to have a really bad season.

BTW, has anyone done offer sheets in EHM?

Poor Penner... :( I really feel sad for him... :( Winning the Cup and right after being forced to wear a Oilers jersey... What a breakdown!

No. I've only gone into arbitration once.

edit, that reply was to B72's question obviously

Oooh! I've never even been to arbitration. I usually resign them or I trade them. How did the arbitration work out for you?

Yeah, Shadd! I agree! :-D Edmonton has become a hockey wasteland! It's a shame because they've got such a great history as a club but from what I hear it's like living on the North Pole.

I have signed Josh Harding on an offer sheet to the Oilers (of all teams)...

Well I didn't let him walk into arbitration purposefully, I didn't know at which point an RFA goes into arbitration, happened accidentally :D
I believe the arbitrator awarded Vaananen 1.5m, he was on 1m before.

LOL! Even in EHM, the Oilers are handing out offer sheets! Beautiful!

Did you get him or did they match?

So now that the Oilers have stolen a player with an offer sheet, are there any other players still out there that potentially could be signed to an offer sheet if another team decides to follow suit?

Jeez, that sounds pretty fair actually. Much more conservative than real arbiters.

I got him for two years at $1M p/y... Later, I resigned him to a seven year deal as he outplayed Roloson for the starting position...

I think that with the Penner affair, we should see in the upcoming years potential RFAs who sign for a bit less that what they should have expected, just to avoid moving to some wasteland due to a non-matched offer sheet. Therefore, it should tone down a bit the salaries accorded in arbitration. So all in all, it should become something good.

However, i doubt that salaries stupid increment will refrain during the upcoming years, even with that  So we'll end with tons of overpaid players, teams in financial troubles, a need of a more strict CBA concerning salaries, and another cancelled season 3-4 years down the road

If that happens, hopefully they'll eliminate the biggest issue by firing Bettman and hiring someone competent instead...

Yeah...useless rant and useless dream... Just wanted to express my thoughts.

I've landed a few small-time players (Sutherby comes to mind) without even having to give up picks.

FEW, what a relief, talkin to Mr. Batdad before, he was convinced that burke wud resign penner, but my mind is at rest, i can sleep easy tonight, good move ducks, I wud be pretty deavastated if i was penner, cup run, good season, then he falls into oil country, not sayin its a bad place, just a bad team :-D

Yep I figured he would for sure. I cannot wait to hear what he has to say. Viritol, anger...or resignation to the new system in the NHL? Not sure. Depends how his owner saw things likely.

Did you hear? In Vancouver they are reporting Nieds retiring for sure...100% and will announce in 2-3 weeks. Poor Ducks with that one.

Apparently, according to TSN's Darren Pang on the radio today...Randy Carlyle was driven insane by Penner. No drive, no effort, constantly having to be pushed to go harder. If that is the case...not to surprised Ducks let him walk, and the Oilers are in big trouble. If I recall, the exact same issue was present with Joffrey Lupul.

Anyway, I have been surprised, and not for the first time. Twas the right move bu the Ducks, just never thoight they would.

And BTW---Bruins72...you have been warned...keep the EHM talk in EHM forums!!!!

:-p

You could create an arbitration/offer sheet thread you know. Sheesh.

Nobody forced Penner to sign the offer sheet... but surely only a fool would turn down that kind of money!

Yep...and he can spend it ALL in THE MALL!! CAuse there is nothing else to do in the winter in Canada's Siberia: Edmonton.

Dustin you have put way too much pressure on yourself. You better get 50 this year. Yeah right.

Penner aint a first line winger, i can barely see him matching his total from this year, and only 8 points in the playoffs shows he aint too good in big games, a -2 shows a defensive liability, whereas Getz was +17 n Perry was +12, maybe just sour grapes, but im pretty happy that hes gone

On which line will Penner actually play in Edmonton? I mean, he is paid the same amount as Shanahan was last year with the Rangers... And as Getzlaf15 said, he ain't a first-liner, at least not yet (I doubt he'll ever be)... Will they try and mix him with Stoll or what?

I think they'll put him with Horcoff and Hemsky at first.

Penner - Horcoff - Hemsky... Hmmm, McTavish might get it to work but then again, he couldn't do anything special with Lopul last year... I think he should play with Stoll on the second line. But I guess we'll see come September 29th!

Penner - Horcoff - Hemsky seems nice on paper. A little bit of everything. Nonetheless, Quacks will get a very high pick in 08 :D

Yeah, I thought of that after. I'm so easy to get off-topic. I set a bad example.

Back on topic... that Pang report is interesting to hear after all of this has been settled. Sounds like another sign that Lowe has screwed himself. He already got the short end of the stick getting Lupul (who really didn't impress this year) in the Pronger trade. I kind of wonder if part of the reason Lowe went after Penner is because he felt he was "owed" more from losing Pronger?
