I do not see anything of this in the rules, did you leave that out or is it an in-game rule?
Yeah, we left that rule out. You may sign players from other regions as you so choose. Whilst this means it's not as realistic as real life, it makes things simpler for users unfamiliar with the Canadian leagues (or even Canadian geography!) and it also keeps our first Canadian Challenge relatively simple. Maybe it's something to think about for future Challenges - but not this one.
Ok...there are some double negatives in here. Simple yes or no: Are we allowed to sign FAs from other leagues when we are able to sign FAs?

Trading

Hi Folks. I'm a newbie, this will be my first challenge so thanks for your patience in answering these questions. I've read all the forums/rules and I have a couple of quick hitters. (1) I don't fully understand the trading, sorry. Rule 5.5.4 "You may only trade draft picks for the upcoming draft." Does this mean I would conceivably be allowed to trade all my picks (not including my 1st and 2nd)? (2) So long as I don't have more than two picks per round, I can accept any offered trade for picks? (3) No screenshots are needed except for at season-end? (4) follow-up to (3), when would I normally take screenshots?

I think that's it for now. I'll wait for confirmation before starting. Looking forward to it,

Thx

Coaches, etc

Unbelievably, I have a follow-up already. Are there any rules for hiring and firing coaches? I haven't been able to find any, however I was wondering whether I had to keep "Coach A" forever, or can I hire and fire at will?

Thx again

*EDIT* This was supposed to go in the Challenge Question forum, not sure how I managed to put it here.

Yes, you can trade your draft picks, any and all of them with the exception of the 1st and 2nd round picks. You can only trade picks for next draft. If you're in the 06-07 season, you can only trade picks for the 07 draft. You can't package up all of your picks for the next 3 years to try and get some hotshot player. You can accept picks in return as well but you cannot have more than 2 picks in any round. Basically, don't stockpile picks.

The only screenshots that need to be taken in the junior challenge are the end of season ones. Normally in our NHL challenges you've got some screenshots to take at the 20 game mark too. And if you were playing with the No Trade No Budget (NTNB) rules, you would have screenshots to take at every 20 game interval. We don't have a core roster in this junior challenge and we don't have a budget, so we don't need as many screenshots taken.

I think that covers it.

:dunno:

EDIT:

You can hire and fire coaches (and other personnel) at will.

Great, thanks for the info. Just wanted to get it correct before getting too far into it.

RE: Stats Posting

I know some changes were made for the Chicago challenge, but I was able to get involved with that one. Just a couple of clarifications as I couldn't find it in the rules:

1. The 15 DEC 08 date is the only deadline for posting stats, correct?

2. You need to post a minimum of 4 seasons worth of stats to get points for any of them?

Yes, the 15 DEC 08 date is the end of the challenge.

No, you don't need a minimum of 4 seasons worth of stats to qualify for the challenge. You can play one season or you could play 7 seasons. It's however many you can get done between the start of the challenge and the end date. I think you might be getting confused on the bit where it says that in order for a season to count (and have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awarded), there has to be 4 people who have completed that season. If you're the only person that played through season 10, we're not going to give you 1st place points for that.

Has anyone gotten that far along yet?

I've got 1 17-game segment on the books but it appears that my save has been corrupted. Is anyone opposed to me starting over?

I just got to the first day of trading. Nobody bit on my top two overagers that I was not using.

so we are only allowed to sign 2 FAs still correct?

If so...loooot of rookies next year.

Yup, same rules apply as before. 2 UFA limit per season and they must be signed during the specified period. Your own RFAs and unsigned prospects don't count though.

OK - obviously, challenge newbie here - RFAs and unsigned prospects - I waited all season for 3/4 of my team to leave (Stich, Sparling, FGC, etc.) - but they are now in my unsigned prospects list - so, I can sign them now (at June 22) - and sign more than just 2, correct? Because they aren't UFAs, right?

That's a little confusing LOL

Which brings up a question - how long do juniors keep rights to players - 21? Thanks!

Your own RFA's and unsigned prospects (which are pretty much the same) don't count as UFA signings. UFA signings are for Unrestricted Free Agents. Those are players to which no team owns the rights. They're free for anyone to sign. In the challenge we've got a limit of 2 per season. This is exactly as I stated in my post above. I don't know how else to explain.

If a player is on your "Unsigned Prospects" list, you can sign them without counting against your FA signings. Major Juniors don't really have RFAs per se since other teams can't make offer sheets.

Players rights are kept for 4 years (typically ages 16-20). They may be drafted as a 15 year old, but only if they would be 16 by the time the season starts (I think :-D )

Thanks -

I was just surprised that I kept their rights beyond the initial contract... wanted to make sure I wasn't mistaken...

NP. You keep a players rights until 1) you release them, 2) you trade them or 3) they run out of junior eligibility (age 20-21). You keep their rights even if they are signed to an Pro contract. If it is an NHL contract, and they are under the age of 20 and they don't make the NHL roster, they must be sent back to Jrs, they cannot be sent to a minor pro team. If they are 20 or above and still have Junior eligibility the NHL team can send them back to you or to a minor pro affiliate, their choice. If it is a Euro/Minor pro contract, you can still attempt to sign the player back without penalty, but I doubt it would happen as you can only offer $1,500 US and even a naff UHL player makes around $10,000.

How am I suppose to record wins in Memorial Cup? As playoff wins?

That would make sense to me but let me confer with the other mods on this before giving you a definite answer.
