EHM The Blue Line

Looks like we're pretty close to being able to edit NHL databases from the XBox on the PC. This is pretty good news for XBox users. I'm not too sure if it's possible to use this software for the PS3 (due to the encryption).

Extract the files from the downloaded zip and load EA DB Editor.exe. In the Editor, click on File -> Load Config and select NHL14 generated.xml (this might be in the parent folder of the Editor). Then click on File -> Open -> select the *.DB filetype from the drop-down menu in the bottom right hand corner of the Open dialogue window -> select sample.db and click on ok (again, this might be in the parent folder of the Editor). It might take a moment to load the db.

When viewing the data in the Editor, it all looks a bit of a mess right now because the field names haven't been figured out. There are a couple of users who are working on figuring out the header titles (and I think somebody may have already done so - the people working on this might try to get hold of him). I'm not too sure how the DB file converts to and from the XBox saved game file, but I don't think it's all that complex.

The Editor is known as the Generic EA Roster Editor. Somehow it can open pretty much any EA database file for pretty much any game. You just have to programme the field titles and properties into the xml file.

Anyhow, if the users over on Operation Sports figure out how to fully edit NHL 14 then I may be swayed to purchase 14... Unless it's easy enough to figure out the structure for 13. I'd really love to replace the Euro teams with the British leagues seeing as I have my FHM research on which to base it.

Looks like promising news for editing the PS3 version of NHL 14: There's a new post on Artem's website regarding his NHL View tool. Hopefully we'll finally be able to customise the latest version of NHL.

I don't know if anybody is interested, but a lot of progress has been made in relation to editing both XBox and PS3 versions of NHL 13 and NHL 14 roster files. This leaves open the possibility editing rosters, schedules, etc. There is also suggestion that it may be possible to edit things like penalty settings with greater freedom than the in-game sliders allow.

It's not all that user-friendly at the moment, but there is plenty of information in the following threads over at OS:

I haven't tried editing anything yet, but I've gotten as far as loading my XBox NHL 13 rosters in the editor.

If they allowed for team editing on the same level as what you can for PC NHL games, I'd be definitely interested. I saw the options for CAT for NHL 13 and was rather disappointed, and apparently NHL 14's aren't any better.

It looks as though you can edit pretty much everything. Even schedules and divisions are editable. I'm wondering if it's possible to add the NHL realignment to NHL 13. It is also possible to edit team names, arenas, etc. I've renamed some of the teams and arenas in my NHL 13 rosters as a test. Hopefully I'll find time to try it out on the XBox this weekend.

Yes, I've used NHLView for my PC versions of NHL. I was referring to changing up unis/arenas, unless there's a way to import authentic-looking uniforms and ices? That would be superb

Ah sorry I misunderstood you. At present nobody has figured out how to replace jerseys. However, users are starting to look at the game's data files and unpack them. Now that we have a simple tool to pack and unpack files, there is definitely potential to do some modding of uniforms and ices.

At the moment, I think it might be possible to use custom uniforms with the real life teams. The custom and real teams have the same settings and so there might be a way of assigning a custom jersey to a real team.

Hmm, interesting. I'll keep an eye on this.

All of a sudden we're spoilt for choice when it comes to DB editing.

You can change team names, apparently. Interesting. I suppose team arena/uniform editing is still a ways off though, if it's even feasible at this point.

What I was thinking was to create custom teams within NHL because then I can use the game's jersey editor to design the jerseys. Then I can transfer the roster file to my PC and rename the teams to whatever I want. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is what the limitations are for bringing custom teams into season or franchise modes. I can't remember whether the game lets you bring them in and replace a default team.

If you don't like where the series is heading with the upcoming 15, the $25 price point for 14 might be tempting.

I have somewhat able to put the Nordiques back into nhl14 for ps3...

I was able to change them in the nhl14 using NHLview... With changing Avs from AVs to Quebec it was easier because because of the jerseys however in the roster movement in the game where it says the team name its blank and it still shows the avs logo and when they come out on the ice the announce still says colorado avalanche... However i got the announcer to say Colisée Pepsi, QUE so besides those minor details that i still got to do its kind of possible to change teams in the roster.
