Czech Republic get ready to play their World Junior Championship Quarter-Final Game against Sweden! Radek Melka stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced, and though Sweden scored at the end of the first to tie the score 3-3, Melka held the line for the last two periods, while the Czechs exploded for seven unanswered goals in a massive blowout upset!

With the trade deadline approaching the IceDogs announce the completion of a deal with the Kitchener Rangers, sending defenseman Vince Dunn, and winger Mitchell Fitzmorris to the Rangers in exchange for the rights to Swedish defenseman Oliver Kylington!

Vince Dunn has been doing well at Niagara Icedogs affiliate team St. Catharines Falcons this season, playing in 34 games, and putting up 40 (11+29) points, and is +27, with 60 penalty minutes, but hasn't been able to find his way to the big club where all the defenseman are having solid OHL seasons!

Mitchell Fitzmorris is a gritty winger, who has been playing well for the St. Catharines Falcons this year, playing in 34 games he has put up 31 (17+14) points, and is +14, with 68 penalty minutes! He will be an overage player next year, and doesn't fit in to the IceDogs long term plans, however, he could provide the Rangers with a gritty veteran prescence going towards the playoffs!

Oliver Kylington was the Rangers 1st Round Pick (3rd Overall) in the 2007 CHL Import Draft! Rumours say he wants to play Junior Hockey, but to this point has been hesitant about moving to North America! How the heck does he think he's going to play Junior Hockey without moving to North America?!? He will likely go late in the first round of this summers NHL Entry Draft! He has been playing this season with Farjestad's J20 squad, where in 21 games he has put up 18 (4+14) points, and is +3 with 14 penalty minutes!

The Rangers get a solid defensive prospect, who at this point provides decent depth on the blueline, and a gritty winger that could likely act as their enforcer, as well as playing on a checking line. The IceDogs get the rights to a defenseman who could be a star in this League...of course if he never plays in the League I won't look that smart...



January 6th

The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds! Backup goaltender Pierre-Olivier Harper will get the start in goal for Niagara! Pierre-Olivier Harper stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced, and though the Greyhounds scored two early goals, the IceDogs took advantage of some bad goaltending, and dominated the scoring the rest of the game!

The Czech Republic ready themselves for their World Junior Championship Semi-Final clash with Canada! Radek Melka stopped 35 of the 42 shots he faced before being pulled in favor of Zdislav Rezek, who stopped 4 of 5 shots the rest of the way, as Canada streamrolled over the Czech Republic defense and blitzed the net mercilessly in a complete annihilation! Somehow the Czech Republic were so inept that they only got 2 shots on goal!!!!

May 10th

The IceDogs announce the signing of Swedish defenseman Oliver Kylington! Kylington was the Kitchener Rangers 1st Round Pick (3rd Overall) in the 2007 CHL Import Draft! Kylington played this past season with Farjestad J20 of the Swedish J20 SuperElit, where in 37 games he put up 32 (7+25) points, and was +11, with 32 penalty minutes! Kylington is ranked 21st by the ISS for this summers NHL Entry Draft!

This is bad news for Russian center Alexander Protapovich, who will not get to make the Memorial Cup run with the team, as he was released to make room for Kylington as a foreigner on the team! While Protapovich could be relied upon to provide some solid point production on the powerplay, his overall play was shoddy at best. In 56 games with the IceDogs this season, Protapovich put up 35 (10+25) points, and was +2, with 52 penalty minutes!

This is good news however for center Johnny Corneil, who has been called up from the St. Catharines Falcons to go to the Memorial Cup with the IceDogs!

The IceDogs remain in Erie to play the final game of the Memorial Cup Round Robin against the Calgary Hitmen! Brent Moran stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs scored early in the third to tie the score 3-3, the Hitmen would score a couple minutes later, and win the game!

The IceDogs remain in Erie to take part in the Memorial Cup Semi-Final game against the Moncton Wildcats! Brent Moran stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced, and though the Wildcats scored late in the third to tie the game 3-3 forcing overtime, the teams would battle into a second overtime, where IceDogs overage winger Justin Auger would emerge as the hero, scoring the overtime winner!

The IceDogs remain in Erie to play in the Memorial Cup Final against the Calgary Hitmen! Brent Moran stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced in the game, and though the Hitmen scored the first three goals of the game, the Icedogs battled back to force overtime, where just seconds into the extra frame, IceDogs winger Brendan Perlini would emerge as the hero, winning the IceDogs the Memorial Cup!

The IceDogs announce the completion of a deal with the Barrie Colts, sending goaltender Pierre-Olivier Harper to the Colts in exchange for the Colts 9th Round Draft Pick!

Pierre-Olivier Harper played in 20 games with the IceDogs this past season, posting a 11-7-0 record, with a 3.17 GAA, and a .869 SV%.

Former IceDogs defenseman Luke Mercer has signed a 1 year contract worth $79.5K with EHC Biel-Bienne of the Swiss National League!

Today was the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and three IceDogs were taken in the draft!

Erie Otters center Connor McDavid, projected to go first overall, fell to #7, where he was selected by the Edmonton Oilers!

Former IceDogs goaltender Christopher Festarini has signed a two year contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche that will pay him an average of $515K per season!

With the 1st Overall Pick of the draft the Lethbridge Hurricanes selected Czech winger Robin Klimes!

Boluss is under contract to Dinamo Riga for the next four years, so will not be coming over unless he gets signed by an NHL team and sent down! That's no big deal though as Kylington, and Jarvinen will likely be my Foreign players for the next couple years. Impressively enough at 16 years old, Boluss has already played 3 games for the Latvian National Team!

Center Jordan Maletta is named Niagara IceDogs Fans Player of the Year! In 67 games, Maletta put up 84 (38+42) points, and was +37, with 93 penalty minutes! In 18 playoff games, Maletta put up 28 (9+19) points, and was +12, with 33 penalty minutes! In 5 games at the Memorial Cup, Maletta put up 6 (2+4) points, and was +4, with 4 penalty minutes!

The Niagara IceDogs Board of Directors announce that they expect the team to be a top contender for the J.Ross Robertson Cup this season!

The Rimouski Oceanic have been chosen to host the 2009 Memorial Cup!

The Ontario Hockey League released their 2008/09 Season Schedule, and the IceDogs will open the season at home against the Mississauga Steelheads at September 21st, then travel to play the North Bay Battalion on September 29th, and return home to play host to the Sudbury Wolves on September 30th!

The IceDogs announce the completion of a deal with the Oshawa Generals, sending defenseman Ryan Sarris, and the rights to defenseman Dino Mattson to the Generals in exchange for defenseman Stefan Leblanc, and the rights to winger Kenzie Wilson!

Defenseman Ryan Sarris has played in two seasons with the IceDogs as an extra defenseman, playing in 38 games, and putting up 10 (5+5) points, and was +10 with 18 penalty minutes!

Defenseman Dino Mattson played last season with the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, where in 58 games he put up 41 (14+27) points, and was +8, with 91 penalty minutes!

Defenseman Stefan Leblanc has played two seasons with the Oshawa Generals, in 102 games he put up 38 (17+21) points, and was -9, with 28 penalty minutes!

Favorites to win the J.Ross Robertson Cup this year are the Mississauga Steelheads, though the Windsor Spitfires should give them a run for their money! The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and Niagara IceDogs were named as possible surprise contenders, while the Saginaw Spirit, and Barrie Colts are expected to struggle!

October 21st

The IceDogs return home to play host to the Peterborough Petes! Brent Moran stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced in the game, and though the Petes scored midway through the third period to extend their lead to 3-1, the IceDogs would score twice in the last three minutes to force overtime, and go on to victory in the shootout!

The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Mississauga Steelheads! Backup goaltender Nicholas Malone will get the start in goal for Niagara! Nicholas Malone stopped 28 of the 33 shots he faced, and the IceDogs offense didn't give him any help either, as they couldn't get a single puck past Steelheads netminder Troy Timpano!

First star honours would go to Mississauga Steelheads center Kyle Pettit, who scored two goals, and an assist! Second star would go to Mississauga Steelheads defenseman Sean Day, who scored a goal! October 26th

The IceDogs return home to play host to the Sudbury Wolves! Brent Moran stopped all 25 shots he faced in the game to record his first shutout of the season, and the IceDogs backed him up, scoring five times in the victory!

IceDogs center Zak Bresden resumes full contact practices after recovering from his arm contusion!



The IceDogs head out on the road, travelling to play the Barrie Colts! Backup goaltender Nicholas Malone will get the start in goal for Niagara! Nicholas Malone stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced, and thought he Colts scored first, early in the opening period, the IceDogs exploded for seven unanswered goals to take the victory!
