I'm glad we have so many people dedicated you getting this game right.

I'm in the process of trying to do that. That board is awfully slow and terrible. I don't ever want to post over there again.

I tried to open your thread over there like 5-7 mins ago and it was blank.

Really interesting stuff! Nice work

I have merged the two threads about this topic for tidiness and so everything can be found in one place.

Looks like the forum doesn't like the number of images in your thread and also the use of spoiler tags. I've managed to copy over your post onto the SI forums for you (in the same thread you started). I hope you don't mind me copying it over - I just thought it was a really important that the SI guys see your findings.

I have to agree 100% about how hard it is to post on the SI Forums... ](*,)

I don't know. I'm not trying to evaluate team standings, I'm trying to evaluate/compare the average numbers players seem to get in one given game. I feel like a sample of 1,230 games (one full NHL season, all games combined) is enough for that, or at the very least enough to see the trend.
I'm not saying this isn't useful, not at all - I think you did a great job. I merely think that it would be useful to see if this is really a trend that happens "all the time" or not. Thanks for it anyway!

General reports have been that this is the case in almost all of the situations. Earlier I said something about quick sim being too high scoring, but I had the two backwards.

So now that I have started a new game and only selected the North American Leagues to Enhanced and NOT selected any of the other leagues around the world, is there a way to select them even to Standard? Or do I have to start again?

I'm assuming that things like the draft and players joining the league through scouting nations still happens without having those other leagues/nations "turned on?"

Would I still see things like the American Hockey League?
If you only want the NHL then I'd suggest just NHL-AHL-ECHL, Maybe the Canadian leagues if you want. I wouldn't worry (like I always do/did) about interacting with other nations. It still happens. Random teams still sign players they need and players still make it thought Europe to the NHL ect. For instance some random Ukrainian team signed some decent players on one of my games. Only issue is if you want to see the other nations teams/leagues and view things about them. If you don't have to on atleast 'view only' you can't see anything. But if you only care for the NHL just pick the NA leagues.

No I'm afraid you cannot select unselected leagues after the game has started.

Detail level question..

Hi there!

I've done quite a bit of googling around, but I'm still not 100% sure about the details of the detail level setting (sorry). In particular:

1. What's the difference, if any, between the 'quick sim' and 'none' levels? Both seem to produce the same stats, with no game replays, but are quick sim games more accurate than 'none' games, or is there no difference?
2. A related question: are non-playoff games in 'later stages' leagues simulated using 'quick sim' or 'none'?

Thanks a bunch for any insight! :)

Non Selected League vs. View Only?

What's the difference between not selecting a league and selecting leagues and setting them as view only when making a new game? Does it make any impact to the sim quality?

Also, how much of a difference does simming at full detail make? I'm just curious if I should be setting leagues such as the canadian juniors to full detail for accurate prospect generation.

Having a league selected allows you to navigate and access everything inside the league just like the league you are playing in. Non selected leagues only display the player's league leaders. Selected leagues are also added in the World tab of the main menu bar on top of the game. Otherwise you have to search by typing the name of the league to access it.

Simming at full details gives a full simulation, utilizing the 2d game engine where players attributes are more ''exposed'' and taken into consideration to create simulated plays.

View only or quick sim is more like a ''rough'' stat simulator, maybe like a random number generator.

None of this should really affect the ''accurate prospect generation''

Detail level question

I'm doing a large non-playing sim with every league selected to see how things go down as the years go on (things like Stanley Cup champions and where a country like the Netherlands bounces around in the World Championships), and I don't feel like taking 7-8 hours to get one year. I haven't been able to find anything anywhere about what the difference between detail level set to 'full' and 'none' is compared to quicksim which I've seen will have a bit of an impact.

Has anyone tested around with that before and have any idea?

Thanks!
