And what makes you think Sestito said word for word what he said? My boss can come to me and say go to that for that person and I can go and told someone else Tort's ask me to do that for that idiot. It's stupid to say that on camera. In privacy who cares.

I'm just learning about "advanced hockey stats" and Corsi and Fenwick are used as indicators of puck possession...
Using stats.hockeyanalysis.com I looked at Detriot's ranking in 5-on-5 Team Corsi (CF%) and Team Fenwick (FF%) over recent years...
2007-08 ranked 1st in Corsi/Fenwick
2008-08 ranked 1st in Corsi/Fenwick
2009-10 ranked 2nd in Corsi/Fenwick
2010-11 ranked 2nd in Corsi, 4th in Fenwick
2011-12 ranked 1st in Corsi/Fenwick
2012-13 ranked 6th in Corsi, 8th in Fenwick
2013-14 ranked 10th in Corsi, 11th in Fenwick
Primis wrote:You want some perspective AND stats, BTW? Jimmy Howard is already 4th all-time in DET history in Wins and is 20 Wins away from 3rd behind only Sawchuk and Osgood (surpassing Harry Lumley). Osgood played 565 Games to get to 2nd... Howard is at only 267 GP so far.
Wins aren't as good a comparison anymore IMO. Howard has 33 wins (23% of his total wins) in either OT or the Shootout, while the other goalies had to settle for ties (for example, Lumley had 56 ties with Detroit).
Martin Brodeur holds the record for most wins in a season with 48, but 13 of his wins were in OT or the shootout. Roberto Luongo had 47 wins in 2006-07 but 16 of his wins were in OT or the shootout...Bernie Parent's 47 wins in 1973-74 were all in regulation
Nabokov had 46 wins in 2007-08, but only 37 in regulation. Brodeur/Kiprusoff had 45 wins, but only 37/39 in regulation. Brodeur/Nabokov had 44 wins, but only 29/37 in regulation...Parent also had 44 wins, and Sawchuk had 44 wins twice, and all were in regulation

And that's why I included other numbers and ranks, like Save and GAA, which compare favorably to some goalies who not only are ones people don't question, but also played in the Dead Puck Era (which Howard didn't get any benefit from). That's not any small thing, that Howard has played post-Original Lockout and got no benefit from the Dead Puck Era like some goalies did.

I don't think we're far from the "Dead Puck Era" now...

Very interesting graph! The amount of goals was huge in 19-20!

And then I don't know what happened in 29-30 with 2.9 per game!

Maybe goalies started to have some equipment and since guys haven't learned to shoot before that year was boring.

They started to count save % only in the early 80's? What that just for the whole NHL or the personnal stats of goalies started there as well? I always thought saves % was older than that.

1983-84 was when the NHL began "officially" keeping track of save% (the first time it was "public knowledge"; IIRC the WHA (1972-79) kept track of save%
Other basic goalie stats, like Games Played, GAA, Shutouts, and Wins, have AFAIK always been kept
I've actually got a book coming via mail right now that apparently has some NHL save% data compiled from 1954-1967
The "Hockey Summary Project"
http://hsp.flyershistory.com/ has individual game summaries from many seasons, and my understanding is a few people have manually compiled save% but I don't have any links to the compiled data (apparently Jacques Plante had a .941 save% in 1970-71)

Did anyone watch this game?
http://gifsound.com/?gif=giant.gfycat.c ... RjFsGc&s=2
While its funny I am pretty appalled at the ref standing right there letting a goalie elbow a player in the face twice to keep him back, talk about interference. Why were the Jets infatuated with keeping Gallagher back?

Yeah that sequence made alot of people angry here (obviously) but not the crazy fans alone. Gallagher does his job well. He rush to the net and try to block the goalies's view and take rebounds and at some point alot of teams starts to find that irritating. Gallgher is like Brad Marchant but without the rat side.
On that sequence though there was clearly a penalty on the goalie and even the obstruction at the end of the vid. The ref saw it all. I've seen the replay on a different perspective and you can clearly see the ref looking at Gallagher saying "You had it coming." Which I thought was freaking ridiculous because it was 3 on 1 and Gallagher did nothing to deserves that (at least not illegal) than doing what he do best.

Gallagher is a known diver, and a known SHITE disturber. So he is now not getting the benefit of the doubt from the officials in the show. This happens to alot of players and most of them learn and get better and smarter, and that reputation goes away. Others...just continue to pull hair, or appear to anyway, and bite...
ANyone see Burrows vs Kessel part two? Burr almost pulls off Kessel's toupee. And also..Burr really??? With a shield AND that jaw protector. Pathetic.
I love the Burrows story as I have said many many times. But he is not learning what he needs to do to be considered a respectable hockey player and get the breaks that others get. he continues with his antics and his dumb assery (also seen in Kessel part 1) and he just quite honestly deserves the refs looking out for what he does. He SHOULD get a penalty EVERY SINGLE time someone trips him or holds him or touches him. He SHOULD get a penalty any time he talks to another player on the opposing team. He SHOULD get a penalty every time he talks to a ref or lineseman.
He continues to play and act like a douche. And now...he does not score, and NOW he does not kill penalties well (at least the last couple weeks), and NOW he is not playing well in his own zone.
Right now we are seeing the other side of the mountain with Alex...
Roller hockey-ball hockey-ECHL-AHL-NHL-NHL star player-NHL-AHL-ECHL-Ball hockey.
He is on his way back. Wonder if the Canadian National Ball hockey team is happy about that?

Looked more into after seeing Gif. Apparentley the game had less than a minute left which is why they were keeping Gallagher back so he couldn't try to get puck back to score and part of the reason the ref didn't call anything. Also Gallagher was embellishing things from Bogosian just before it (as seen as beginning) then Gallagher didn't take the "best way" (for lack of words) to get out of the zone, instead running into the goalie, etc. The NHL article said that a penalty should have been called at the end thought when Trouba (sp?) runs into him coming onto the ice.
The thing that struck me though was Montoya straight up elbowing Gallagher in the face twice with ref looking, I mean what if Lucic did that? Or Sesito? They'd get a game misconduct.

jesterx7769 wrote:then Gallagher didn't take the "best way" (for lack of words) to get out of the zone, instead running into the goalie, etc.
Precisely. I've noticed that as well when watching the sequence BUT the Habs were trailing and desperetaly trying to score to maybe tie the game so Gallagher didn't had the time to just wait or go around to net, he wanted to clean the zone. With what was happened with Bogosian seconds before he simply couldn't go to Bogosian's left because I'm sure he would've been hooked again so he tried to pass behind the goalie, which a tons of players do in the NHL but Montoya decided otherwise.

He'll learn from that.
I'm not sure he dived behind the net though. Bogosian is strong and well, you know Gallagher size so for Zack it's probably pretty easy to toss a guy like he did. Before he got hit by Trouba though he embelished it. But both Montoya and Trouba should've had a penalty on that for roughing/obstruction.
