I would agree there (but like you say, it's personal taste). Maybe it'd be worth making those players declared for their primary nation if in reality they would unlikely ever play for their smaller second nation.

All of those 2nd nationalities that I mentioned were for players who have actually played for the national team mentioned in official games. Or are currently playing. And I also agree that the game should be kept real.

I set declaration only if player played for the national team or if the player said so it's not that if someone posts here to make crosby declared for uruguay i am gonna set it.

Not to single anything out but we need to remember when rating players to look at everyone in hte league not just his own team. Where would Tanev rank league wise as a dman? Probably in the 25-50 range in terms of dmen and ability in the league. That is about where he is in the game 4 years in.

I would argue that at best, his current ability could be raised a little, and some of his starting attributes, however not his PA as he is pretty darn spot on later in the game

there's good argument to be made that tanev was one of (if not definitively) the best shutdown defencemen in the league this year. he has little to no offensive value (and actually reduces his team's offence) right now as a player. i think his shot statistics are probably too good, his off the puck stats are probably too high, and his anticipation and determination (an undrafted free agent that was 5'9 at 18 years old) too low. he's currently as good a defenceman as say, edler, and edler's CA/PA are about 15 higher. I dont know how deep an argument is suitable here, but i think the game underrates him pretty fiercely (which is not unexpected, maybe he's unheralded relative to other similar defencemen). if its a reasonable place to discuss it, i'd happily make a more indepth and convincing argument

edit: is a pretty good illustration of his defensive capabilities and his uh, offensive ones too

how does this game measure shotblocking, anyways? kris russel is an elite shotblocker to make up for his inability to exit the zone

since we're on the topic of canucks - luca sbisa is not currently an NHL calibre defenceman, and likely never will be. i think he might be rated considerably too highly. cory conacher is not an NHL forward and probably never will be, either

I'd say that Sbisa's CA is alright, frankly, maybe we can give him 5 to 10 points less, but not more. Btw he shouldn't have an Italian second nationality, I think.
Regarding Conacher, he had some great stats in the AHL, his CA is definitely too high, but I don't think we should kill him, maybe tone it to about 115, I think he can be a good forward in Europe, he's fast, a good playmaker, I think he can be a top player in Austria or so

yeah that makes sense. i don't have a good grasp of the player's abilities as they spread out through the lower leagues, just their relative abilities in the NHL/AHL

sbisa was technically born in italy - but i dont know what your requirements are for secondary nationality

"Ius soli" is enforced pretty much in Americas, in Australia and in Iran only if I'm not wrong, in all other the world being born in a place won't make you a citizen

I agree with your Tanev comments. He is way better than the game lets him be. He is at best a top 2 shutdown guy and at worst a 2nd pair shutdown guy. He would be even better if he puts on a few pounds, pumps a bit more iron and works on his shot a bit. That part of his game is getting better, just rather slowly.

AGain...just looking at the attributes for Tanev in my game 4 years in. There is nothing that can be improved outside of the mental for what type of player he is. THose are all high numbers in my game. HE is fine just maybe mental boosts. The issue for Tanev in EHM is not attribute, CA,PA related in my opinion...it is EHM EA And difficulty rating for the defensive and larger dmen.


I am not arguing that Tanev is a bad dman, I am arguing he is a good one, but he is a 3-4 dman. He is not a 1-2. Because and explicitly because he does not add the offensive element to his game. He will never have pp time on a team with decent offensive defensemen and should not get it. Therefore is a great 3-4 defensive minded PK dman. His minutes in games will be 22-24 just like they should be on a bad d-core team in VAncouver. But that does not make him a 1-2 dman, just because he plays the role in Vancouver.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the flyers-tampa trade from the deadline (cobourn for gudas, 3rd,1st) is completly wacked. The lighting got the flyers 1st and kept their own. Flyers should have their own and tampas first. Is there a fix for this that woulnt have my game screwed up?

Yeah been mentioned. A few times. WIll be corrected in next DB release. And no nobody knows for sure when that will be.

he is definitively a #2 and probably a #1. he is in the top 30-45 defencemen in the league as of the end of this year. thats my point

Anyway, Tanev will get a boost in CA/attributes, so you don't have to worry about that. Can you name a few players he's comparable to in the league?

I don't watch Nucks alot but wouldn't Marc Staal be a decent comparison? Staal is obviously a little bit bigger and more physical but both have limited offensive potential and both are great in their own zone.

Really? Tanev top 30-45? Wow. I guess i need to change my list of defensemen. He is not there. Sorry. Not even close. Even one on his own team is better than him (Hammer)

I can think of three on Nashville alone. Maybe 4.
Anyway. if you look at what happens to Tanev development please be very very careful in what you do with him. This guy will NOT ever be a PP type defenseman even though the Canucks have to use him there. He is really a stay at home, smart defensemen and his numbers in the EHM EA are bang on 4 years in. Attributes are exact.

And anyone who reads the screen shot I put up on him and thinks differently is nuts. It is bang on.

It is EHM EA and its game mechanics that are undervaluing him, and underappreciating what he does. Really need to be sure that once those are fixed he is not a superstar in the game. Any boost could really put him at that level. He is in the 50-80 range for dmen in the league. Borderline 2, mostly #3 dman.

Please take a look at the coaches. Especially in Sweden they haven't been updated for years.

Guys know that. But since they do not get paid, it can take a back seat. Do you want to help out with that? It would be greatly appreciated I am sure.

i'll think about it a bit. i dont have a lot of time but yeah, a less physical mark staal pre eye-injury isn't a bad place to start. i really like karl alzner as a comparable, style-wise (another player who's CA/PA i think is a bit undervalued)

the problem im having with comparables is that a lot of the guys that are really good at defending primarily are physical. i literally dont think ive ever seen tanev throw a hit, lol (he takes a lot of hits, though)

a couple more tweaks - i think ryan miller's time in the sun has come and that he's probably a bit overvalued in 7.3. also uh, do the canucks still own the rights to sergei topol? he's there every iteration of the rosters but i think that ship has sailed, haha
