Having some fun with BKarchitect's NHL 36. I took Quebec Nordiques and since my AHL team had no players...I signed 20-25 free agents to fill the roster...Here's the first game's result :

It's always cool to play a file for a long time and see how the World Championship divisions and other international competitions shake out after 20+ years of simulation. I don't have the files anymore, but in previous games I've had Turkey qualify for the Olympics (and do a respectable job too) and Serbia make it to the top level of the World Championships.

I knew some players gets unhappy over time...but to actually say "Screw that, I'm not going back anymore" ? That's a first...

Let me tell you the story of Mark Giordano. Mark is a decent hockey player, playing for the Nashville Predators, he was signed to 6-year deal as a UFA in June 2010. At 29 years of age, he is at the very peak of his abilities.



Mark has had a pretty productive three seasons on the Predators' top pairing along with Brent Burns. Even though his first season was cut in half at exactly 41 games played, he was averaging over one point per game, with 5 goals and 41 assists, and a 8.71 average rating. Had he not gotten injured, he would've definitely been a Norris trophy winner, but Burns graciously accepted that award in his place.



The rest of Mark's Predators career looks like this, and includes the Norris Trophy, twice, two Plus-Minus awards, a Lady Byng and a King Clancy:



Unfortunately, after the pre-season exhibition games leading up to the 2013/14 season, Mark slightly hurt his knee:



So logically, instead of accepting that fact that he'd sit out the first two games, Mark decided "Lindros you, Lindros you all":



And went on to retire. The Predators were awarded $2.8 million in damages, a full season's salary for Mark. The Predators' GM watched on in disbelief and raged at EHM for the first time in over 600 played hours.

That's pretty rough indeed!

How the players talents overall? I know that barely 15 years in it was horrible finding a good goalie or players with a decent shape. How does it look 100 years later?

Looks very good. There were about 25 generational players. One of them had 2809 points. 7 more had over 2000 points. 3 of them had over 1000 goals. Record is 1160 goals.

I mean, it would be a useful addition to ANY team's roster.

So I started a game with the latest 06-07 UUDB with my Sabres. Safe to say we had a pretty good start. From the top of my head this is the longest winning streak I've ever had on this game. It would have been cool to go atleast 20-0, but guess I have to be happy with 18-1-0...

Patrick Dwyer is a real heavyweight in the '98 database.



He's also got 16/15 acceleration/speed... And 20 strength. Now all I need is him to develop 20 in deflections and I know who's in front of the net on my first PP unit.
