Sorry, I thought this thread was for "Challenge Questions"....
Anyways, I already checked out the practice thread, which is where I originally posted my question (I didn't really see an answer). I was just looking for a cut and dry answer rather than a this is what I set my intensity levels at, etc.
So far, the fitness regimine is working alright. No attributes seem to be falling; however, I am still experiencing some injury issues. I suppose I can just throw in some days off here and there. Rather than check every single players profile to see if they are in need of rest (cause frankly, that gets rather annoying). Some players can be at a certain percentage and not need a rest while others have a higher percentage, yet need rest...I just don't have that kind of time to look at 23+- player pages on a day to day basis within the game.

Okay. This really doesn't belong here. This is for questions about challenge rules, as I said. Please, no more talk about training/practice regimens here.

You mean
assistant coach, don't you? Yeah, I'm afraid you have to sign him as Ass. coach and wait for 6 month to promote him. That's how it works... You can't sign him from UFA to Head coach directly.

Options for RFA?
I had a 22yr old got to RFA status. He would not sign a contract until after July 1st. Then the amount he wanted was insane. But I realized I only had a limited window to sign him according to the rules so I didn't have much leverage so I offered him a contract for what he was asking. But even management refused to allow me to sign him at that price, they would not allow the deal to go through.
So now what? I have a 22yr old just sitting, I cant sign him, I cant trade his rights....do I have any options?

Blueshirt, You really have no options here. Unfortunately you're stuck with(out) him.

Well he's still an RFA (because you made him a qualifying offer), now moved into your unsigned prospects screen. He's pretty much lost to you for this season but you could always try to sign him again next off-season. His asking price might go down after being stuck playing in a lower league or sitting.

Thanks, kinda sucks that he wins the Calder one year and then he is lost to me. Guess I can try to sign him during the off season but losing a full year of development will not help his cause.
What is the reasoning around not allowing the trading of rights in the challenges?

hey all. i'm thinking of getting involved in the challenge games, but i've got one question that i can't seem to find the answer to - how long do the challenges run for? and by that i mean, how many ehm seasons do you have to play with the given team before the challenge is considered complete?

You can play as many seasons as you like. Even single one.
Challenges usually last about 2 months and everyone can join at any time. Current challenge runs till 31 Mar 11. You can see (current) challenge standings
here. Once you read the rules, feel free to join

We used to allow the trading of draft pick or unsigned players in past challenges but over time we've seen that it just gets too easy to land marquee players when you include them.

Of course not, why would I have asked if that was the case. Just seemed stupid to give up a great coach just because for some reason his contract renewal was not accepted. He had been my head coach so why couldn't I sign him to be that again?
Well since I didn't get an answer I hired someone else to be an assistant and make my head coach a naff assistant I had.

Looks like I read the post wrong, but in the end there was no chance I could sign him as an assistant.

But, it would be kind of cool to see a list similar to a fantasy hockey "can't cut list," but a "can't trade for list." Just to keep things realistic, take the elite of the league, or 1-2 players from each team that you cannot acquire in a trade. Trades are very easy to exploit in this game and I like the setup in place. But looking over the challenges, as soon as someone can trade, they get a Malkin/Ovechkin/Parise/(insert star player) on their team, and abandon the "rebuild" style of play that should be the point of these challenges by immediately upgrading their roster at little cost.
Just my 2 cents.

That is an interesting idea. It is one that has been tossed around several times, and it has always been a thought. It started wtih everyone trading for Marleau. We thought about a banned list, but did not want to muck anything up. You do need to note that it is rarely the guys that make this trade that do the best in challenge scoring overall.
I can speak from experience because rarely if ever have I given in and made a deal like that, and I have been at the top of most challenges I play (at least top 3).
I hate the idea of telling people you cannot trade or sign so and so in a challenge. It really limits the experience, which to me is to see so much of what others do.
Even though I am not playing the Thrasher challenge, and have not even downloaded the new Lidamal rosters (due to life) I still read to see what people are up to and how guys are doing. Questions like B72 asks about players development in other games are always of interest to me. Helps me get even better and makes me try new and different things I would not normally try.

My thoughts exactly, Batdad. Sure, we've had some people trade for the big names here and there but it's been limited in this latest challenge now that we've limited everyone to just one 1-for-1 trade. It's quite a bit more difficult to make any kind of a deal like this. I don't even know if I'm going to get a trade made in season 3.
I love the development aspect of it all and seeing how different players develop in different people's games. Of course the random potentials can make a big difference. Yasin Cisse in a good example. He's a "-" potential guy. In some people's games he never amounts to much. In my game he looks like he'll be either a 1st or 2nd line scoring winger. This also interest me because I had drafted the guy in an older challenge using an earlier version of the database.

So question about 'unsigned players'. So I have a 29 year old who is playing in Europe, he's far down on my depth list and reject an invite to training camp. Am I allowed to just release his rights? I looked in the rules and unless I'm blind there is nothing in there about this one way or another (other than trading his rights is not allowed)

Yes, you can release his rights to make room on your reserve list.

Who validates stats? I had an issue with my season 2 period 4 stats. For player PIMS I could only use 3 digits. Rypien had 1220 pims and not 122 pims.

Calv does it. Anyway...in the discussion thread I think...it says to enter 999 for anything over 1000. Because the team has not been using PIMs for points for the last few challenges because they are too easy to rack up. So...they don't count towards winning anyway.
As an FYI..I believe at one point the challenge team was talking about creating a new stat to contribute to challenge points other than PIM, but have just not been able to get around to it.

SO let's get this question out of the way.
If you use the CSD patch for the Florida challenge...you will run into issues with waivers, due to the "joined team date" issue...or at least we hope that is the issue.
Will you have the same waiver issue if you do not use the CSD patch? I ask because the playing field will not be level if it is not the same waiver situation in the non CSD Manimal Dec 30th, and the CSD Manimal rosters.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the non-CSD rosters aren't going to run into the waiver issue. Personally, I don't feel it will make that much of a difference in how I play. I'm playing with the CSD patch. Really, the only reason we're allowing people to use the non-CSD rosters is so that we don't exclude anyone who can't get the patch to run for whatever reason. If some people decide to play with the non-CSD rosters to gain some sort of advantage, they're probably not that great anyhow and need any little advantage they can get.

Heh. Yeah, if I was playing (don't think I will be) I would be using the CSD patch for sure..more of an added challenge for me.

Some people (like me!) might use the non CSD patch simply because the EHM they normally play has no need of a 2011 start date...
Overall I myself prefer the "historical" UUDB rosters over the Lidas/Manimal rosters. My desire to play with the most up to date rosters is minimal to non-existent, and seeing EHM show 2011 doesn't really mean much to me (I admit if EHM could start in 1974 I'd be very interested!).
I've not yet even tried to get the CSD patch to work (and don't see doing so anytime soon). If I was to participate in the challenge I'd use the non CSD rosters, but not to try and gain any sort of advantage; the idea that others may think I'm trying to gain some sort of an advantage makes it unlikely I'll participate...

No...I don't think you are trying to gain an advantage. I was just not sure how it was going to work, so I asked. AS B72 said, not sure how much of a difference it will make anyway. If you have to waive a guy with CSD it is a guy you don't really want anyway..so I cannot see it having a very big effect.

Just out of curiosity, may I ask why?
