No no...take Huet last night and multiply it by the whole season and you get .....wait for it.....
Cristobal Huet.

Take Huet's 7 GA performance, an multiply it by a whole season, and you've got Steve Mason.
What a waste of a pick he was.

Sophomore Slump will be the Comeback Kid of the year next season. Huet's career is as good as over... If you can't win games with the Hawks, who can you win games!

Okay...taking Getz's frustration led me to wonder who picked the biggest flops and who got the best deal in the draft at the start of the season...so I did a little research.
First in this post the good...then in the next post a little more.
Best deals for players in terms of Fantasy Stats (player rater for backup
Ranking right now in league--position in draft.
1. Bryzgalov-Drafted by Newbies, traded in January to Phaneuf.. clearly the steal of the draft. Top ranked player in entire NHL and was selected 15th round, 199th overall.. He is the only one of the top 20 rated players to be traded, save the #20 guy..Rene Bourque. HE IS THE STEAL OF THE DRAFT!
2. Ryan Miller- Corinthians. Drafted Round 4, 43rd overall
3. Alex Ovechkin-Bald Ukaris. Drafted 1st overall
4. Patrick Marleau-Burnaby. Drafted round 6, 80th overall
5. Alex Burrows-Kent. Drafted Round 4, 50th overall
6. Dany Heatley-Phaneuf. Drafted Round 3, 30th overall
7. Sid Crosby-Newbies. Drafted 3rd overall
8. Thomas Vokoun-Vikings. Drafted round 3, 36th overall
9. Martin Brodeur-Killers. Drafted Round 1, 10th overall
10. Alex Semin-Sun Bears. Drafted Round 4, 51st overall
Interestingly...Mr Semin was on IR for virtually entire season left there by his owner, who became extremely inactive. Imagine the different results had he played him.
Also. just because guys get lots of points in the system you will notice that it does not necessarily correlate to the Head to head system...as success.
But man, who would have thought Bryzgalov would be the top performing player in the entire league...never mind anywhere near the top.
And to have only 2 first rounders in the top 10 performers...bad on us. But remember this for the next draft.

How did the draft go? 1st round picks....
1. Alex Ovechkin-3rd in player rater standings.
2. Evgeni Malkin-14th in player rater standings
3. Sid Crosby-7th in player rater..
4. Pavel Datsyuk-75th in player rater 5th biggest flop
5. Roberto Luongo-33rd in player rater
6. Ryan Getzlaf--45th in player rater
7. Tim Thomas-151st in player rater 2nd biggest flop
8. Jeff Carter-15th in player rater
9. Zdeno Chara-126th in player rater 3rd biggest flop
10. Martin Brodeur-9th in player rater
11. Zach Parise-18th in player rater
12. Oli Jokkinen-125th in player rater 4th biggest flop. Notably his brother Jussi is 69th in player rater and would not have made the worst 5 picks.
13. Joe Thortnon-45th in player rater
14. Nick Backstrom-368th in player rater, 33rd among goalies behind the likes of Andrew Raycroft, Cory Crawford (who played 1 game),Cristocrap Pooet and many many undrafted goalies. BY FAR THE WORST PICK OF THE DRAFT. Interestingly it was a selection made by Corinthians Red Army...a team that is still threatening to win the pool.

Speaking of Semin, I was thinking...
If someone wanted him and proposed a trade, it would be unlikely to be accepted or even noticed, due to the inactivity of Semin's manager. Which means that inactivity can lock-out good players from the rest of the league.
My thought is, should we introduce an agreement for next year that allows the commissioner to trade away players on behalf of a manager who's officially deemed inactive? And of course, all offers will still have to maintain some level of fairness.

Interesting stuff... I was looking through the draft recap the other day looking at some steals. There were also some FA's i remember being claimed that i'm sure people regret dropping now.

Yeah--there definitely are some...I know I have one or two that others likely wish they kept. I may look at that stat another time. Also best/worst trades etc could be fun to look at. Best undrafted players...etc.
Stinson--I don't think we should do it that way. I think that it should be on the owner of the team...let us know you are not going to be active if you are not...if you are not active...league vote after 3 weeks or 4 weeks...and BOOT replaced by new owner of team from the relegation or a new sign up. After the commish made a deal, no matter what the deal..the guy would be mad if he came back.
This is the problem with an online league...guys come and go..we actually did really well for activity in the league. Most guys stayed on somehow, some way. If someone leaves they need to be booted, replaced by new owner some how. Not just controlled by commish.

I agree with Batdad probably we need to keep a close look at manager inactivity issue. I don't know how handle this situation, maybe you guys come with something up for next season.
Min. Backstrom ( next season he'll be better ) was a bad draft but I corrected my mistake months ago trading him for Dallas: Louis Ericksson.

batdad, I think you're right about booting. It would solve the problem itself, instead of simply countering it.

Also, it looks like we've got our 2010 Minstrel Memorial Cup set: #1 Burnaby Black Ice vs. #7 Marsac's Newbies.
It was a really close fight between the Newbies and The Mustangs. I think the last few times I checked, they were tied and separated by only a few Goals.
So with that being said, the Final begins tomorrow! ...And in just one week, we'll have our first Minstrel Memorial Cup winner. Will it be Burnaby finishing off a dominant season? Or will it be the Newbies coming all the way from the seventh seed? Should be fun to watch!

It was indeed a tight matchup, we were 5-5-2 going into last night's games but I had the tie breaker lead in goals. I even stayed up to watch the all important Pit-Tor game but I couldn't stay awake to see all the games so waking up today was exciting!
Atleast second place in my first fantasy season, not bad! We all know I can't beat batdad's monsters without unlimited amounts of luck but I've had an amazing run so far so who knows?

Good effort Corinthians. And Marsac, you can beat me. I have 3 Sharks. We all know how good they are in playoffs. And my 2 Flyers are MIA as well, not to mention my goalies think the season is over.

Congratulations to the finalists from the Uakari Camp!
Baldies stopped playing as soon as we were dropped by Corinthians - or actually even little sooner... Still the season has been fun and I'm pretty happy with the results. I said already in the draft that while picking first is really great, it isn't so great that the next pick is 28th. And actually, because of me being so slow, the biggest problems came when I had to choose two players in a row
I was looking at my players' stats and trying to figure out, who to keep and who are leaving. Season stats showed that my weakest spots were C and RW. The latter doesn't surprise me, but I am disappointed to M.Koivu and especially Toews, who is ranked only as 23rd of centers in league. I thought he will be my keeper C with no doubts, but Koivu is challenging him seriously. And thinking of dumping one of them makes my stomach hurt already... Another tough choice will be when I have to decide, which one of my defensive trio Weber-Ehrhoff-Streit is leaving. I'm pretty sure, who he is, but it still won't be easy to let one go...
BTW, it seems I can't vote for B.Masterton Trophy at TBLHL site. Or was I supposed to do it here? Or have I already voted for somebody in some hazy night that I'm never going to remember?

My guess is that you already voted. It's supposed to let you vote once, then after that it will always shown just the results for you. But I've noticed a couple polls where it won't let me vote, and I know I haven't already done so... but I figured that was something to do with me being the commissioner.

Sweet! I've got a very good chance of not being relegated! I've just got to avoid an embarrassing 3rd round and I should be fine.

Stinson, I just read your answer and decided to go and try to remember if I've voted already. And when I got in TBLHL site there was the poll

It seems one just has to complain on things to get them work. Anyhoo, I voted for G.Black Ice, although I didn't approve his actions when he was changing players in the beginning of the season. That wasn't though a reason not to vote him but on the contrary, to be honest. You don't have to love him to admit he's a capable and (hyper)active manager, right?

Just one question: After this week are we be allowed to propose trades again for the next season or just in september?

How long is our keeper league going to be? Have we set a limit? The Kessel - St. Louis keeper situation is killing me...

Kuulaapa--I actually did not even vote for myself because of the start of the season issues. Dedication AND sportsmanship...although it was within the rules at the time, it was not kosher. I have admitted that, and know that. I also did not vote for Lidas because of the beginning of the season, and that post is somewhere in this thread. I did not want that trophy, and in some ways feel I should be disqualified from it.
This keeper league goes until we all die Getz. So for me...2 years.
I think the not being able to vote thing comes from when you have to re sign in to the site. When you are not on for awhile ...and you know, when you have to reenter your password when you try and make a transaction? I had the same problem, resigned in, and boom..there was the poll. Doubt it is the commish thing for you Stinson. Likely the same thing?

Oh yeah, I was going to ask about two things.
1. How come the playoffs end before the season ends?
2. a. Have we discussed trading draft picks and stuff yet for players?
b. When can trading recommence?

batdad wrote:b. When can trading recommence?
To be honest, I'm not sure when trading comes back. I have a feeling that ESPN considers the end of a league's season to be the end, until it's reactivated the following year. So my guess would be that our league will be considered "over" until the next fantasy season comes around.
getzlaf15 wrote:How long is our keeper league going to be? Have we set a limit? The Kessel - St. Louis keeper situation is killing me...
It just keeps going as long as we keep playing.
batdad wrote:1. How come the playoffs end before the season ends?
I would have to assume that it's to avoid having many of our players become inactive when their team doesn't make the playoffs.
batdad wrote:2. a. Have we discussed trading draft picks and stuff yet for players?
We haven't had any official discussions yet, but I've been thinking about it a little bit. I was hoping we could get something worked out this offseason, and have it playable for next year.
My only ideas with it right now is that it would have to be a manual system, probably done and tracked here at TBL, since ESPN's draft order isn't customizable enough to simulate traded picks (for example, teams having multiple picks in a round, no picks in a round, etc.)

I read your post when you sent it and I can see your point. But disqualified... nooope. And as thinking of the whole season your dedication and activity has been so superior compared to any other GM/coach I think you deserve your Trophy alright.
2 years? What does that mean to me? 14 months?
If the voting issue is how you said, it's funny you don't have to sign in the site always. It kinda fools you to think that you're in while you aren't. Have to remember next time to try to refresh the page or do some changes in the lineup if something like that occurs again.

Man those bloody Sharks better show up tonight. I am getting killed so far. Not a surprise. Sharks always choke...should know better. Should have dealt all 3....ick. Down 20 shots already.....that is gonna be hell to make up.
Congrats Newbie.

My four Penguins were also awful last night, and two of my three Sabres are injured. Chances are you have four categories locked up from your goalies alone. That's my own darn fault for dealing Bryzgalov and hoping that Halak/Price would get traded, or that Fleury would show that he owes his cup ring to something other than luck. Man I hate that guy and I'll probably end up keeping him anyway since he's the only true starter I have now.
Still, it's a tighter matchup so far than I thought it would be.

I won't beat you...even without your Sabres. Team is just horrid this week. Barely made it through last week. You have too many goalie starts for me to bench all my goalies from now on out (would not do it anyway)...although Quick is getting me widdled off, so sitting him for the moment. May even dump him..but not yet.
Minus 4 from my Sharks last night at least. Wow. At least they hit the net with their shots. God Dallas gets 6 goals..Morrow nothing. Ugh.
My goalies have been good so far this week...but it is real close in that area. I have to win in the goalie categories to even have a chance this week. Not sure it is going to happen.
It has been a great run for my team...but I think I am gonna get beat when it ultimately matters. Roster moves that usually put me over the top ... have not worked so far this week at all. Oh well.

I'd keep Marleau. I can't decide between Lecavalier, Kesler and Savard.
