We haven't done those in a while. These days, Batdad and I are the only mods participating in the challenges. I suppose we could make a bet like that again but I don't have the confidence in my EHM ability that I used to. Over the last several challenges, I haven't been as successful as I used to be.

Now if you want to be so bold, Thunderbug, you could always issue a School-atar challenge to Batdad and anyone else interested in accepting.

Everyone is more than welcome to issue challenges or make bets on the TBL challenges. I think it spices things up. Of course, you guys could always have a non-mods only bet with schoolatars if you could find enough interested. Or you could challenge batdad and really make things interesting. Maybe not even limit it to a schoolatar. Maybe batdad would have to be "nice" for a specified period of time?

Well...no issue taking that bet, since there is absolutely no hope of me losing it.

I'm in for a schoolatar bet with Batdad, and anyone else including B72 if he's up for it.

Hey I've completed seasons, and when I did I was just as good as you were. I did 3 seasons of Chicago.

Nah...no way tbug. Must have been one of those challenges where I was thinking:

"Noone will play anymore if I keep winning, must play Toews on 4th line with Havlat in the stands"

I just came up with another question related to the new rules for NHL. We are required to keep 2 goalies, 6 dman, and 12 forwards in addition to our normal players, Do all of these players have to be in the minors? Do our contracted players that have been sent to juniors count? How about if we have to call up for injuries? etc.

Or are we just required to keep a total of 4G, 12D, and 24F under contract irregardless of where they are? The reason I ask is, we are limited to 50 contacts as it is. 40 contracts cover the required positions under this rule, but, my teams regularly have 4-6 players under contract and in the juniors (they decided poorly and went to University Mostly), I send them there because they aren't ready for tha AHL, or in most cases can't be sent to the AHL, suddenly you have 45-46 contracts, not including an extra Dman or forward on your main roster. Suddenly a couple injuries will cripple you, because you cannot carry any more contracts.

You are required to maintain a farm team of 2 g, 6d, 12 f....it is that simple. Junior teams are NOT farm teams.


Simple math then says for this challenge, you should have under contract:

4g
12d
25f

That makes 41 players. This leaves room for 9 others to be sent to junior, ncaa, or to also play on your farm teams. what you do with those 9 is up to you. I have found in the past that people have kept basic shell rosters for challenges of say 29-30 guys in some cases, and dealt anything and everything else up to beef up their main team in the NHL.

This is also the reason no prospect trading is allowed. Develop the guys you or your predecessor GM drafted.
There is still some room for flexibility (allowing some draft pick trading, although minimal---allowing trades here and there--although minimal, allowing the FA signings to fill out your farm teams, etc)

fair enough, are we required to keep these players in the AHL for the entire season though? Say, if i call up one forward for 20 games to fill a hole caused by an Injury. I assume that is allowed?

Next question:

Since the system with core players is not in play anymore, I was wondering for how many seasons is a homegrown player supposed to be on the roster? It will be too many HGs after a couple of seasons.

Hmmm....I will think about that one with B72 and we shall see.

As for the possible UFAs to be signed in season one (for the AHL-team) are we allowed to sign NHL UFAs or just the ones with expired contracts?

The "Young UFAs" that you are allowed to sign to fill out your AHL team are anyone 24 years old or younger who's rights are not owned by another NHL team, don't have to clear waivers, and will sign for $450k per season. If you go to the 'Player Search' and set the filters for age 20-24 (since under 20 must be drafted) and contract as "UFA", it should narrow down that list of players. Of course, you will still have to look on a player by player basis to see if they are not eligible for waivers. You can pretty much count on the guys between 20 and 22 not having to clear waivers. Then you'll just have to see if they will sign for $450k per season... and no bonuses!

So that means I can sign players from the AHL or colleges, for example?

If their rights are not owned by another NHL team and they meet all of the other Young UFA requirements I listed... go for it. They're UFAs.

YEp you can sign guys already under AHL contract provided they are under 24, and are not listed with any other NHL team. Again I am going to tell people:

Don't start now. There are some things in the works that B72 and I are ironing out for this challenge. You don't know what these are yet, and trust me...you could have to restart your game.

Most likely...you would have to. There is one really interesting thing we are deciding on in particular. (ANd no not telling)

So I went ahead and did a test run to see what exactly I'm working with ahead of time. I was wondering if we were able to sign our unsigned prospects at anytime. The prospects in question are playing in college.
