Do I have to sign up for the challenge or does it just involve posting results?

There's no sign up, just play and post results/screenshots

My game started out with Sabres winning the cup over Flames in game 7.

So I've completed my trades, and made my draft picks.
I felt there was a lot of holes to fill, but I focused on my Dmen for now since that was imo the weakest area of this team.

Image

* I really hope that Domi will be my main goalscorer, maybe too much to ask the first season but I'm not expecting much for the team overall for this season.
* Nurse seem to already be a really solid Defensive Dman, now I'm just hoping his offensive will catch up.
* Ristolainen and McCabe came imo really cheap, but maybe I've missed something. Tim Burke Saw at least Ristolainen as a potential 1-2, McCabe unfortunately was unscouted for some reason, but he seem good aswell.
*This last trade I had some options. I could've got Mantha for these 3 but I felt that Petan, Morrissey and a 1st(20) was more value in the end. More depth at least.

I suppose I have gone after the junior Canada team a little too much, but we'll see if this turns out well.

I am a little worried about my goalie situation though, having only Stalock.

Draft 2016:
First pick was won my the Devils, which picked DeBrincat.

My picks were:
6 - Logan Brown (C)
20 - Chad Krys (LD)
36 - Filip Forsmark (LW/RW)
42 - Clayton Keller (C/LW)
96 - Jeremy Brodeur (G)
126 - Arttu Ruotsalainen (C)
153 - Marcus Björk (RD)
156 - Logan Stanley (LD)
186 - Hans-Göran Ericson (C/LW)
193 - Maxim Bain (LW/RW)

Sometimes I take over just to hire decent coaches and then retire. This time I retained control because I wanted to make sure that the right players got ice time. So I set the roster and lines, let the coach handle tactics, and go on vacation for 2-4 weeks at a time.

You're playing Zoln-whatever over Pearson on the third line? I know Pearson doesn't appear to be as good in this challenge as he was in the last but he's better than Harry Z.

And here's my lineup to start the season:

Nieto-Couturier-Wingels
Pearson-Couture-Hertl
Emanuelson-Viedensky-Yakupov
Zolnierczyk-Tierney-Smith

Johnson-Barrie
Marincin-Tennyson
Muller-Doherty

Stalock, Grosenick

Time for the regular season and my lines look like this:

Huberdeau-Couture-Coyle
Nieto-Hertl-Wingels
Karlsson-Sheahan-Hartman
Zolnierczyk-Smith-Hayes
Emanuelsson

Dumba-Johnson
Müller-Tennyson
Marincin-Doherty
Albelthauser

Säteri-Stalock (Can't decide on the starter)
Grosenick (waiver eligible so I'll just keep him up.)

The main thing that scares me is the lack of depth. If one of the top guys gets injured we're in big trouble. :help:

Second game in the regular season and Doherty is out for 4 months with an UCL tear. ](*,)

He did, it was just slow. He was NHL-ready in my 5th season :P
He is on my team in season 6 and he is doing decent, barely ready. Talk about slow!

I was 15 game in, one point from first spot, getting great performance out of the players and the game crashes when I press save.
Back to 8 games in now....

Edit: Instead of being a top team a bunch of players struggled bad and at 20 games I went 8-9-3 instead. Friggin cheating game...

Marleau won't waive his no trade clause to ANYONE. What do I do? :help:

Discipline player - give him few warnings for poor performance or unprofesional behaviour, if that was not enough, fine him for one week salary. When I had done testing for my trades, I was able to trade him to Rangers, Bruins, Ducks, Habs, Lightning, Kings and even to Flames.

True that Thornton was much more easier to get rid off..

So, I have done my trades and went through draft.

I have brought in:
D: Mike Reilly (CLB), Madison Bowey (WSH),Jake McCabe (BUF)
F: Mika Zibanejad (OTT), Sam Reinhart (BUF), Jevgenij Kuznetsov (WSH), Sven Andrighetto (MTL), Michael McCarron (MTL)

Additional picks:
# 5th overall from Florida - I wanted to go after Auston Matthews and I doubted he could stay there until 6th pick
# 28th overall from Caps
2nd round picks from Montreal and Senators
3rd round picks Sabres, Senators and Wild (through Panthers)

I know, not the best options available, but we will see... I had temptations to go after proven players (from Flyers, Canucks, Devils, Leafs..) but then I decided to try unproven players (in my previous challenges of course).

I have drafted:
First round:
Auston Matthews
Luke Green
Chad Krys

Second round:
Filip Forsmark
Matthew Tkachuk
Kale Clague
Tyson Jost

Third round:
Jesper Lindgren (YES him - he was undrafted from previous year)
Jack Lafontaine
Carl Grundstrom

From Fourth round on:
A-O. Liebel
J. Forsbacka Karlsson
Jonas Siegenthaler
Matej Tomek
Nick Heid

Many Swedish or Euro players and overage draftees as well - but 2016 year class was looking rather weak, so I went with a lot of overage draftees, who were left in 2015 as I gave them more chance to succeed.

You can easily get players to waive their NTC even in the trade window. First you have to fine them, I usually do so for no reason. After that, I maybe fine the 2nd time for poor performance or smth and if this doesn't settle it, you should go to the players profile and put his status to not needed. Once he's accepts to waive his NTC you can see it the transfer window in brackets.

I don't think there are any specific rules about restarting before the first stats-logging but i would say it's not cool to do it unless you make a gamebreaking error. I also forgot to fix the goalie situation and lost Stalock and couldn't sign Säteri but that's not a gamebreaking error, that's just poor management :P Take it like a man and keep going is what i would say but since i don't think there is a specific rule for it nor a way to enforce it i dno.

Easiest way to get someone to waive their no-trade is to just put their status as not needed, that's in my experience atleast.

If you haven't logged any stats yet, just go ahead and restart.

Cool thanks Bruins.

PD - Fair point, it really was bad management :** . I'm gonna restart, but I'm making the same moves I made initially just signing Stalock, (Hopefully) Sateri and Grosenick. I have no intentions on trying to go after say a Gibson, Demko, etc. (Not yet at least). Think of it as a mulligan, we haven't officially started as far as keeping stats. If it makes you feel better do the same thing I'm doing.

Prowl: Yeah my scouts all liked Heid. IIRC he drew Phaneuf and 3-4 Potential most of the time which would be excellent!

I'd only restart just because I failed to sign Melker and Sakeri lol. Other than that I'm rolling along. Couturier and Couture are kind a struggling but Hertl has been dynamite. 20 points in 13 games, including a league leading 12 goals. Grosenick has outplayed Stalock although both have been terrible to start. That might be more because my defense hasn't helped. Barrie though is as good as advertised. 20 points including 6 goals and leading all d men in scoring. Just fantastic

Instead of doing the players in and players out on the Transactions screen, go to Trades.
