You can also get a guy to waive his NTC if the team isn't doing that well. I'm pretty sure I've done that in the past. If a team is rebuilding and they've got a 35+ year old guy with an NTC, chances are that he'll want to move on to a contender.
I was actually planning to trade Sundin's high salary for another. I actually had the Tampa Bay Lightning interested in sending me Lecavalier for Sundin (I can't remember if either team added anything more to the deal). They agreed but Sundin vetoed it. My reasoning for wanting the trade was that Sundin is getting older and I'd rather replace his salary with a younger guy of similar skills. That way I could've resigned Lecavalier and kept my payroll about the same.

You're getting pretty close to 'txt spk' there, we ask all users to use correct spelling. We also ask that you use correct grammar and punctuation, this means proper sentences and using capitals where appropriate. I understand this may be difficult for foreign users and we do allow some leeway but we require some effort on your part to make your posts legible for everyone else to read.

Very mature. I guess only real gamers can't be bothered to "play nice" and adhere to the guidlines of the forums they join? Calv was very nice about it. There's no need to get an attitude about it.

Personal preference. I like a younger team. Even though the challenges only run 2 years, I play it as if I'm going to play it for longer.

There are 7.6 million reasons for me to want to get rid of Sundin.

Uh, so...."real gamers" get to overlook the basic rules of the english language?
We do want real gamers here - there are lots of us that welcome the challenge of new users in the TBL Challenges. We also appreciate that there are lots of users with lots of good info and conversation to share. However, we feel we have a very good thing going here at TBL and we have rules in place to make sure it stays that way. Unfortunelty, if you can't or won't follow the rules - you're generally not around here very long.

Thanks batdad!
Now, back on topic...
I just dealt Sundin to the Sharks for Michalek and Hannan. mmm mm good.

Heh. I almost traded Cheechoo back to the Sharks for Micalek and a 2nd. Maybe later. Cheechoo had 3 goals in the game after the offer, and 4 in the next 2. That makes 7 goals in 3 games...he had 1 in the 7 before that.

I never trade for Cheechoo. Does he develop well? I like his shot but he didn't seem to have much to offer beyond that. Does his stamina go up much?
I got Hannan and Michalek too but in seperate deals and without trading Sundin.

Hi Everyone!
I would like to share some of my thoughts about our TBL challenges:
I loved the first two challenges I was in, Carolina and Montreal, but lately I've been hesitant to compete. I miss the excellent posts that we used to make in the challenge discussion forum, where everyone posts an update every twenty games or so on the status of their team. Maybe it was because the challenges were new to all of us, I don't know, but it sure was cool to read about how we chose players, set up lines, and what tactics we used. I looked forward to reading the challenge discussion forum every morning with my cup o' joe. But somewhere along the way people forgot that the challenges are supposed to bring us together as EHM lovers. Sure, the bragging rights for winning a challenge are cool, but it seems like the creativity is gone. I lament the passing of the good ol' days...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :blue: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been contemplating participation in this challenge for a while, and although I have some reservations, I've finally decided to throw my hat into the ring...
But, I'm going to try to get the old way started again. I'll post my pre-season moves, how training camp went, and what's going on with my team every twenty games. I'm also going to try to keep my Maple Leafs team together as best I can. I know that I will need to trade away some of my high-priced defensemen, but other than that I hope to keep trading to a minimum. I even looked on the TSN website to see what moves Fergie made during the season. Some of you may think I'm crazy, but I want to challenge myself, as well as everyone in the competition.
I really love EHM and TBL, and maybe with a little help from the TBL veterans out there, we can make the challenge discussion forum a great read again!
I'll be posting soon-
Tim
a.k.a. timmy_t, Tiny Tim, Timmay!, Tim the Toolman, T-bone, Timberly, and that Tim guy who won the cup with the actual 2006-2007 Maple Leafs
Glad to see you joining in! I know I used to write long, detailed updates about my team during the challenges but I've gotten away from it. Part of it is not wanting to give away my transactions and then seeing it copied (we've seen this happen in the past) but mostly it been a time issue for me. Have you checked out the blogs section? That might be something you'd like to check out. Even though everyone isn't using the same team, everything else you're looking for is there.
Yeah...I am not posting mine either. Although noone has copied me so far...
Right, first off, I'm a Finn and having Sweden's golden boy Mats on the team really is painful. But I got around the TBL salary cap without trading him and if he really is going to score lots I guess I really don't care if it was Satan himself. I'm only starting the challenge (just past pre-season) and I've built a pretty gritty team, with four even lines without having to trade a lot. I mean I probably have the best fourth line in the league in Chris Clark, Chad Kilger and Alexei Ponikarovsky, whereas my first line probably isn't quite as good as other first and even some second lines in the league. One player who never stops to amaze me is Andrew Peters, who I got from Buffalo for some unsigned veteran "prospects". Even though he comes off as a pure goon, placing him in one of the top lines brings much needed physical presence to help the more skilled players. His average rating goes well over seven, once put in one of the more offensive lines. He doesn't seem to make a lot of mistakes either, and looking at some teams trying to steal the puck away from him can be quite hilarious at times. I have tried this same thing using other goons, but usually they simply end up taking more stupid penalties and dropping their gloves more often. Anyway, I'll be posting my first set of stats soon, and then I'll know for sure how my plan has worked out.
I am a Vancouverite so I understand your feeling. I hate all Toronto Maple Leaf things...so I know it is hard. I have about 5 or 6 Leafs I really hate.
Warning: Another rant ahead
I am struggling to play this challenge. I have a team at 19-4-3 and am firing on all cylanders. But I hate the players. I hate the team I have put together. Why?
1. Brian Pothier...never trade for this dork. WAYYYY too much $ for what he brings to the table. Even though he appears good. He is untradeable due to his stupid contract of 2.5 million. Bryzgalovs me off.
2. Any leaf other than Sundin I have: Kaberle, Poni, Wellwood, Stajan, Raycroft, Travis Green...all drive me absolutely bananas with their horrid play.
3. I like two unnamed players on the team and ambivalent towards the rest of the guys. Just cannot stand this team of dorks.
4. I am about to trade the whole team away for useless twits and lose, lose, lose. Cause I don't want to win with these guys. I just do not like them. And that is in the game, not real life. Many I like in real life...that is why I tried em.
5. The one player who is lighting it up and making me love him....Kristian Huselius.Need I say why this annoys me so? Fricking Flame.
Anyway, enough..go leafs go.!!!
LOL! Glad to see you're having so much fun, batdad! I can see that "Bruins72 Schooled Me" on your profile already!
I'm surprised you're having issues with Pothier. I've got him on my team and he's doing okay. I've got him in the second defensive pairing. Maybe he can be good or bad depending on his defensive partner?
I totally agree with on every Leaf other than Sundin being horrible. That's why I traded them all away. I've only got a few minor leaguers left on the farm. Other than that, every Leaf other than Sundin has been traded. After the season, I might not even have Sundin. He doesn't seem to want to negotiate a new contract with me yet. I've got a heavy Buffalo and Washington feel to my team, with a nice bit of San Jose and Philadelphia. I've got to admit, I didn't get too creative with this team. I've traded for many of my usual suspects. Then again, a couple of them are players that I've come to really like since our last challenge. Either way, they're doing much better.
I guess the moral of the story is, if you want the Leafs to become a Stanley Cup team, you have to get rid of all of the Leafs!
I'm done with the first season. Just experienced a round 2 loss to the Sabres in 6 games. Lost Marleau, Niedermayer, Clark and Campbell in the first round against the Pens
Was still able to beat them quite comfortably considering the circumstances, but went down 0-3 quickly against Buffalo, a 1-10 loss on home ice amongst others (though admittedly I replaced Vesa in goal after half an hour with Ouellet who hasn't played for months)... won games 4 and 5 when Marleau and Niedermayer came back but it wasn't enough
The idiot is playing with Kaberle, or with Eminger...He should be fine. Just he does nothing ... at....all.
But I refused to trade for any usual suspects. That is until Philadelphia inexplicably offered me Nittymaki for Bryzgalov....and a useless prospect. (1 * to all other teams, save Philly..what do they know?) Then Nitty plays his first game...is exceptional making 27 saves through 2 1/2 periods, and on the verge of the impossible 5-0 shutout. And....he...gets....hurt...for 2 weeks. So now I have Raycroft with Pogge as his backup...Pogge will make his NHL debut I guess. Cause I dumped Tellqvist.
Wow, I got Pothier too, and he's been playing quite alright up until a minor injury he sustained a weeks ago. I've also found quite a good player in Chris Clark, who has been racking up points in my second line.
